  1. Yes. So much so that I reccomend listening to music in an oxygen-free environment. Take lots of vitamin C, too. fini
  2. Get a pair of Quintets off Ubid or Ebay for$80, and put one in the closet for a spare. fini
  3. Mike, I guess I'm with you! Loved Pulp Fiction, and have literally fallen asleep durring every "viewing" of every "Star Wars" movie, in theaters or at home. Not to say that they were bad experiences. . PhilH, I thought "The Fast and Furrious" was about Ray Garrisson's LaScallas...now THAT would keep me awake! fini
  4. I believe there's one on ebay right now! fini
  5. I take it as a consensus that this is now NOT a DIY project (at least for ME, with my big fingers and carpentry tools ). Still, I wonder what I did to mess it up. How is that disc held in place, anyway? Just magnetism? fini
  6. Well, it's confession time. Months after getting my Cornwalls, I decided today to go ahead and replace the diaphragms, which I deduced was the problem with no sound commin' out of the tweets. I printed out a copy of a helpful thread (http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000471.html), and was on my way. I took the four screws out, and took the horn off. Wasn't sure how to get into the diaphragm (stuff didn't just come apart). My best guess (wrong) was to pry off the metal screen. Oops. Figured out what I needed to pry off. Hopefully the tweeter isn't ruined. But wait---there's more... I was careful. I pried off the paper gasket without bending or ripping it--YAY! I checked everything out, noting the orientations of parts, etc. I put it all back together, so the kids wouldn't knock everything akilter while I went over to my buddy Earl's house to borrow a soldering iron. I got home and removed the screws, but the parts wouldn't come apart easily. It seems the diaphrapm (coil?) got caught in the magnet gap, and pulling it out not only destroyed the old diaphragm (no big deal), but also shifted the magnet (BIG deal, according to Klipschguy in above thread:"Also make sure you don't move the magnet in the center of the magnet assembly - if it moves, the tweeter is toast."). I am really bummed. Can I fix the magnet probem? Should I admit defeat and bring everything in a zip-lock to a speaker repair shop? Am I kicked off the board? Thanks, friends. fini
  7. Cornwalled, Milo is waiting for the mouse to come out of the port. K33E's come up on ebay with some regularity (as you probably know). There's a pair on right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1312018446 Damaged cones, high shipping costs, but seller may deal on shipping. Say hi to Milo! fini
  8. Besides, Colin, you'd probably crash trying to drive with your ears in the sweet spot . Might even slip a (compact) disc. fini
  9. Kill your television. fini (Of course I'm joking! I read it on a bumper sticker. Would never think of doing THAT, at least not until Survivor's over...)
  10. I received two diaphragms from Electrovoice, and no instructions were included. I'm hoping to replace them before Christmas. Which posts were most informative? Anyone have photos of the process? Anytime someone says "It's easy, you've just got to be careful..." it makes me a bit nervous. I'm most concerned about de-soldering and alignment (although there are probably more areas where I can mess up). It took about six weeks to get the parts (they were out of stock), so I'd like to get it right the first time. Anyone have those talked-about instructions in postable or emailable form? Much thanks! fini p.s. I'm a handy guy, just cautious.
  11. BB, I believe the "views" category goes back to zero when a new page is added. fini
  12. Hmm... New Hope, PA... If my memory serves me, that's the community the Klipschites migrated to and founded, after having been driven from their homeland, escaping persecution for their beliefs in free trade of spare parts? fini
  13. Colin and Mike, I'm sure Colin's Cornwalls sound great. I love what you both add to this board. My question was, I guess, one of logistics: How can you that precisely locate your ears relative to the Cornwalls? If there is only one best exact sweet spot, and it's that sweet, how can more than one person listen at a time? No disrespect or teasing, here. Just curious. I rarely stay in one spot while listening to music. Regards, fini
  14. BobG, When you say the driver needs to be replaced, you're talking a new complete woofer, not a repair to the woofer, right? Or is there a repair that can be made that's more economical? fini
  15. Doug, sounds like you won't be demo-ing those speakers...they'll be demo-ing you! fini
  16. Hey, Colin, it seems unless you have an enormous head, the difference between pointing a speaker at your ears versus the back of your head would seem to be miniscule. Are you serious when you suggest (are you suggesting?) that there would be any discernable difference? fini
  17. Diggs, two of the woofers on my pair of kg4's have a problem, too. A buzzing sound underlying the signal. When I carefully push on the cone, applying even pressure around the dust cap, I hear/feel a scratching sound. Does this sound like what's going on with yours? fini
  18. WARNING! JIM CORNELL! You need to stimulate replies here, buddy! This topic has been overtaken by the burning Sony one, in terms of total replies. Surefire (no pun intended) subtopics would be: drugs (esp. illegal), politics (esp. partisan), religion (all work), sex (esp. combined w/ forementioned subtopics). Just a "heads up" from your pal, fini!
  19. Olaf, I believe the fastest way to burn in equipment would be to hook it up to a Sony ES receiver. Maybe just setting it real close would do the trick. fini (Sorry... couldn't resist)
  20. I'd be a bit concerned about shipping costs from Nashville to Singapore. How long have you been looking for Cornwalls? Any of 'em closer to home? (Although it's not as if there aren't plenty of ships going that way every day...) fini
  21. DEAM, I'd go for the 10.1. Same as the 9.1, but includes a built-in sprinkler system. fini
  22. Jim, I'm tellin' ya, there's enough room INSIDE the Corns for the kids, one per (unless they're REAL small, like twin newborns)! Now THAT'S what I call a BASS-inette! fini
  23. Lots of room on those shelves for sock storage, Tom! Throw the dirty ones behind the Heresys...helps with the bass. I used to install cabinets for a living in Marin County, CA. Yours look great! The colors in your house look surprisingly close to those in my recently remodeled living room. Nice! fini
