  1. I was thinking if I knew more about AM circuits, that I could hack into the thing and somehow replace the internal tuner with the Sony's, but tuning with the Radioshark is done digitally (using the computer) so it's not so simple (or even possible?). I think the direction that would yield the best sound quality is to try and get some outboard delay processor with RCA inputs and outputs. Even if I had to rent it for a month...

  2. It's baseball playoff time again, and I'm looking to improve my setup for listening to the AM radio broadcast while watching the television broadcast. The television lags by about 23 seconds, so that's about how much delay I need for the radio. I've tried the Griffin Radioshark, but the reception is pretty horrible. I own a Sony XDR-F1HD tuner, which receives the baseball broadcast very well.

Thoughts include hacking the Radioshark to bypass the internal tuner (possibly using the Sony tuner), or using the Sony with another device (or Mac-friendly software) that will delay up to 23 seconds.

  3. They say a mono set will be coming out next year. Since I'm broke anyway, I'll be waiting to hear some reviews of the sound quality before pining for them. The box set (which includes what is supposed to be a very nice book) will be "limited" to 50,000 units world-wide, but the individual albums will also be available. I've heard they'll be pressed in Germany (Palais).

  4. Anytime your a couple thousand miles away from home stop by, and yes if I get lost and end up in California I will be looking you up, and would want to go sneak up on Fini and just knock on his door just to see his face. Surprise

Dude, I can send you an 8X10 glossy! [;)]

Carl, sorry to hear about your Dad. 75 year marriage? WOW!

Even though I've never had the opportunity to visit Elden and Christy, they've both made it clear on multiple occasions that the invitation is open! I hope to take them up on that one of these days, and of course I'd love to have them out here! As Dee (who himself has been such a generous host and good friend to me and my family) said, the Luquets are some of the nicest folks you'd ever want to meet. I love 'em!

  5. What arm or tt are you going to use it on? Could help with the suggestions.

Rega p9, but i don't believe in expensive cart with two youngsters at home! :)

A Rega P9 is the turntable. Is the tonearm an RB1000? It's the arm and cartridge synergy that matters most, and that mostly has to do with the tonearm's mass and the springiness (called compliance) of the cartridge's cantiliver/stylus. Think of it like springs on a car. Heavy car requires stiffer springs than a light car for a smooooooth ride. As has been stated, The Vinyl Engine has all the charts and calculators to assure a (theoretically ;^) perfect match.
