  1. Late to the party this time...so what's the latest...is the 3950 gone and is the 3960 better or at least as good??? I realize for the price it can't be bad but my Yamaha CD player has given up the ghost and I need to replace it anyway...(door opens when IT wants to and skips all over the place while playing...and I only got 13 years out of it... ) Bill
  2. Good luck and congratulations! Happy New Year! Bill
  3. Thank you for your input...I found soundistributors yesterday as well as "namebrandz" if nothing more, perhaps I can use their prices to leverage the Reference dealer if I go that route...this would perhaps be easier if I hadn't done the whole thing at once...just ordered the Outlaw gear AND now looking to buy the speakers...more to think about and I appreciate the debate. Bill
  4. ahhhh, but it was Steven! Thanks...and I would LOVE those RF-7s... Bill
  5. illthreat: thanks...I had found Vanns and thought I hit it big, then heard the NEW F3s were MUCH better (who knows at this point, can't listen to them side by side either...;-) then the RF-35s...my head is spinning... I will be making a decision this weekend I believe. Thanks for all the help...keep it comin' if you got 'em, people! Bill
  6. illthreat...I was cheering right along side you when you mentioned being able to score them... Thanks, Bill
  7. Sorry, thought someone might have tried them as mains in a stereo system without the center, surrounds or sub...since, at the time no one was chiming in over at home theater, I thought I would try here. Bill
  8. illthreat: I saw your responses and saw you were looking at the same speakers...only problem is, if I could AFFORD RF-5s, we wouldn't be having this debate...I originally wondered how close the RF-35s and the NEW Synergy F3s were since speaker size, configuration, horn/mid/woofer, cabinet design (different ports) might sound close since the top line Synergys are priced retail below the RF-35s...actual real world sale prices place the F3s SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS lower than the RF-35s...My thinking was of the cake and eat it too variety...thinking I might get real close to the RF-35s while also saving some $$$ so I can buy more stuff...you can't argue with THAT now can you??? Bill (Uh oh....flame suit on...just remember, partly said tongue in cheek ;-)
  9. Guys, guys...I APPRECIATE ALL responses, even if I don't agree with some...it doesn't mean I am right or wrong or you're right or wrong but this IS about impressions...I was trying to extrapolate from speaker size, configuration and placement that perhaps I might be getting a fine speaker from Klipsch in the Synergy line...In fact, I believe I will be getting a fine speaker from the Synergy line, perhaps those of you who believe the Reference line is better no matter what (even the smaller RE-15s and RE-25s) have merit...some of you have heard both speakers (F3s and RE-35s)and I REALLY appreciate your input...some others (myself included) while hearing them did not hear them back to back from the same power source in the same store...unfortunately I cannot do that but I may "try out" the 2 side by side if the stores are agreeable...I relish the back and forth here because I believe MANY of you have very good points to make and I learn from that...2 and 2 equal 4 and 2 and 2 equal 22 depending on your perspective. I think we can agree that we all enjoy music and or movies and we all enjoy Klipsch sound... Thanks, Bill
  10. "...curiouser and curiouser..." Thanks DrWho Bill
  11. Points taken and I DO know what you mean...so for separates how does the Outlaw Audio 950 7.1 processor and 7100 7 X 100W amp sound...I was thinking of adding their acclaimed LFM-1 sub to the speaker mix. Thanks, Bill
  12. Meuge...thanks for your comments...JewishAMerPrince...Please do not think I do not appreciate your comments as well...I just cannot listen to the Reference and Synergys in the same place...furthermore, I have been to 4 different BB to hear them and they sounded great at one (nice set-up, lower amount of boom boom going on around) and not so great elsewhere...in fact it was until I heard them at one sounding great that I even considered them...now as to Reference...the sales guy, who seemed VERY knowledgeable to me first showed me top of the line References...droooooool...then we went to the RF-25s and RF35s...GREAT on movies and just okay with music BUT that was in a FAR bigger room than I have and others were shopping as it was on the main sales floor and the top line References were in the closed room (RF-25s were in a room as well) anyway, I will give them another listen (store is just not close to me) and bring music I KNOW how it should sound (at least through older KG2s ;-) Thanks for all the input...still learning...keep it goin'! Bill
  13. JewishAMerPrince: Now THIS is the type of feedback I crave...I take what you say as true because these are some of the thoughts I had as well...These things may in fact be the difference...I am also using the feedback from Trey that the speakers sound similar or even superior to the older Reference line...that said, your comments make perfectly logical sense to me...so perhaps I am getting an 80 per cent Reference in the Synergy at less than 80 per cent of the cost. These things are all weighed in to what I can afford but give me food for thought...If I listen to the RF-25s that are priced, I believe, right on top of the Synergy F-3s and the Reference sound better to me, well, that's where my money will go...I believe that I need to get back out to the stores. (ugh) Thanks for your input everyone...this thread has come alive...doesn't the blood pumpin' make you feel glad to be alive??? ;-) Thanks, Bill
  14. JewishAMerPrince...What you say concerns me because it seems you have heard both the new F3s AND the Reference RF-25s and 35s...it also saddens me a bit that you feel the Synergys don't come close even to the RF-25s being they are smaller...Bill...Got it, thanks...I should save that link...I have looked at it enough! Thanks again...spirited debate! DrWho...this is exactly my thinking...if this is wrong, I wish more would tell me why without using anecdotes (JewishAMerPrince gave me his real world feedback)about why anything Reference is better than anything Synergy...(picked up during Search here) Thanks again, Bill
  15. Thanks...that makes me feel that much better about the F-3s... Bill
  16. ..."and the workers rose to their feet and demanded to be counted!" ;-) Thanks, Bill
  17. Yes, I would agree that DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER specs while similar might bring different sounds but I thought MAYBE Klipsch being the maker of both of these speakers and that they both are of similar size and design and that they have the same size drivers of a similar type with similar horns might actually sound, well similar. Also since the F3s are a brand new speaker (at least to the Synergy line) and the RF-35s have been out a couple of years, what better way to lengthen the "legs" of a particular model than to move it from Reference to Synergy as the Reference line improves...Synergy improves from the same research done by Klipsch and it is a continuous feed. Just a thought...furthermore, The F3s were designed to be successors to the speaker that was the successor to the Reference (but it's all in the family, right ;-) so, I don't know. Didn't Trey say that the NEW Synergys were not only a BIG improvement over the last Synergys but were sonically similar ("You would be hard pressed to hear more HF in the Reference...paraphrased of course by me.") Might be closer than you think to being "close to the flagship", eh??? Hey, I could be wrong. In case you think otherwise...I DO appreciate your input...it's how I learn. Thanks, Bill
  18. Thanks, your post just put a BIG smile on my face...I do believe, barring the creek don't rise...that I'll be purchasing an F-3 system! I think your observations are right on. Thanks, Bill
