  1. I have pretty much decided that I'm going to get a pair of Heresy's, the question is which version. I have narrowed it down to the Heresy I or the Heresy III. Yesterday when I heard the older model I discovered that the bass does not go as low as I'd like it to. I've read that the new model has better bass. Since it is still a 12" driver and the cabinet size is the same, it seems logical that the difference in bass is the level, not the extension. Is this correct or does the new model actually go lower than the previous versions?
  2. Thanks for the reply, Amy. I will give support a call. It may not be covered since I bought it as a refurb and it's been several months since then. Wayne
  3. Thank you for not responding at all, Klipsch! Although my reference HT setup and iFi are fine this is a pile of junk.
  4. Guess I'm the only one with the problem. Replaced IGroove with JBL Creatures and am happy. Still have iFi which works well.
  5. I bought a refurb direct from Klipsch and for a while it sounded fine. Now it has a high pitch screech even with nothing connected to it. The sound is maddening and I'm thinking about tossing it into the trash. Anybody else have this trouble?
  6. For the record, Andy did not shoot the idea down, he actually found a few reasons to try it. Having lived with the RSX4 on an iFi now for the better part of a year I've come down off the cloud a bit. If you can get a pair as I did for $150 on Audiogon it's a worthwhile upgrade. Especially if you rip at 320k or better. It's not a night and day difference - to get that you would need to upgrade to a higher level of components. My guess is that if you invest above $500 you can probably outdo the iFi + RSX4 especially if you're not a bass-head but below that it would be hard to beat. If you rip at 128 or 192 I'm not sure how much improvement you will hear....
  7. Glad to hear it. I was there a few months ago and the salesguy tried steering me away from Klipsch. He was not hot on the RF83's and said they didn't sell any Heritage or demonstrate them at all. Maybe I'll make another trip down there.
  8. I've had mine for about 6 months and have had zero trouble with it. I think you do need to get the adapter from Klipsch for Nano although they may now be shipping with it. One thing is for sure: no other system I've heard for Ipod even comes close.
  9. Depends on your room size. In a dorm or small bedroom, fine sound and enough bass. I have a large Living room and had to upgrade to an iFi. And by the way the iFi for $200 at Costco is a much better deal than an IGroove at $100.
  10. I've tried both in my system and the 5's are a little overkill IMO. The 4's are a step up and in the context of this system a nice fit. To really move up from the iFi with a 4 or 5 you are talking about a much more expensive proposition involving an amp, sub and speakers - something approaching $1k in gear. You may want to check www.audiogon.com from time to time. I got a pair of 5's for under $200 and 4's sell for the same or less when they come up.
  11. Looks like they're still being sold according to the Klipsch website. http://www.klipsch.com/products/lists/ipod-speakers.aspx
  12. I saw iFi readily available at Chicago area Costco's this weekend. Still at $199 and untouchable by anything at that price.
  13. At $200 retail there can't be a lot of $$ being made here. Consider the retail of the RSX3's alone... then add the sub, amp, dock, cables, etc...
  14. It will be interesting to see what they do. The iFi was more expensive than anything when it came out and it developed a nice following, due to its great SQ and the ridiculous pricing you could get on it. Now other systems are hitting even higher price points. Will Klipsch take it up a notch or will they decide people won't pay that much for an improvement? Time will tell. One thing is for sure - I'll take it over 2 I-Groove's anyday.
  15. That's the same conclusion one reviewer wrote - the highs are not all they can be. After an month they should be burned in and if you're not satisfied with the basic sound by all means tweak it. I picked up a pair of RSX4's on Audiogon and found that they made an improvement in my setup with the iFi sub. That is another way to go but it involves more $$. I have a spare pair of RSX5's too but they are a very different creature from the modified RSX3's the iFi uses and probably won't create the synergy with it as well as the RSX4 does. If your use of EQ makes you happy then rock on.
  16. I wonder about trying an outboard amp with my rig: RVX42's and a Pioneer Elite 47 with plenty of power but I'm wondering if plugging in a separate would improve the sound quality.
  17. It will be listenable, but you will want to upgrade to hit bit rates in the future once you hear what they are capable of through an iFi.
  18. The iFi is best in class. Nothing short of the Geneva labs is close. At the money you can get them for you will not find anything that compares. 28hz bass will rock your room and the satellites are Klipsch reference quality.
  19. Buddy Guys Legends for Blues, hands down. For jazz, the Green Mill or the Jazz showcase. If you want food, bar reco's give me a PM. I'm a foodie and a local.
  20. One of the best buys I've made. Last weekend even my wife commented how nice it sounded on Coltrane. She never said that about my other, much larger rigs.
  21. The difference will be night and day.
  22. For the iFi all of my 450+ CD's are ripped at 320. If I were ripping them for a higher end setup (Klipsch Heritage or the bigger Reference line) I'd consider lossless. An iFi probably won't sound very different between 320 and lossless but I'm very sure you could hear the difference between 128 and 320 on it. For the iFi 192 is probably a reasonable minimum to use. YMMV.
  23. The RSX4's are great with iFi. Highly recommended. Well worth the upgrade. Check www.audiogon.com and from time to time you'll find them and RSX5's at better prices than authorized new dealers. I paid well under $200 per pair for both my RSX 4's and my RSX5's.
  24. I think the reviewer didn't really want to like the iFi but came away concluding that it is the best of the bunch. The Bass EQ and treble boost are interesting but I wouldn't put too much creedence into the Rat Shack FR measurements. Bottom line: iFi is just the best sounding Ipod solution out there.
