  1. According to Good Guys, the RCX4 is $250 and the RVX42 is $450, but what you pay depends on your dealer. With 15% off, the difference is $170. In the context of a $3000+ speaker setup, I would not try to save $150-200 and go with a center speaker that was not designed to go with the LR's. If it was a $200 difference on a $1000 setup I might consider it.
  2. I was able to get in front of the RVX54, RVX42 and RCX4 last night. Unfortunately, the RVX's were not broken in at all and I'll be back on the 29th to hear them when they are. The RVX54 is a beefy looking speaker, not a pencil thin B&O wannabe. The RVX42 is compact but matches its aesthetic. IMO, the RCX4 looks like a toy next to the RVX54. Compare the RVX54, RVX42 and RCX4: RVX54: (4) 5 1/4" woofer, 49.25" x 7" x 6.5" RVX42: (2) 4" woofer, 24" x 5.8" x 4.5" RCX4: (2) 4' woofer, 14.5' x 5.4" x 8.4" My salesman said he had heard Klipsch demo the RVX54/ RVX42 with RSX4's in the rear and it sounded great. The Klipsch site lists the RVX42 as the LCR match to the RVX54. I suppose to save a few clams you could mate an RCX4 with the RVX54 but speaking for myself I'd get the RVX42 which was designed to go with it and matches its aesthetic. ---------------- On 1/17/2005 6:45:28 PM 007 wrote: Juduging by the dementinos, the rcx looks to have more volume. but its hard to tell without seeing both speakers rcx-4 rvx-42 FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 92Hz-20kHz ±3dB 92-20kHz±3dB SENSITIVITY: 94dB @ 2.83V / 1 meter 94dB @ 2.83 volts / 1m ENCLOSURE TYPE: Bass-reflex via dual rear-mounted ports Bass-reflex via dual side-firing ports HF CROSSOVER: 2100 Hz 2175Hz WOOFER: Two 4" (10.16cm) Two 4" (10.2cm TWEETER: 1" (2.5cm) 1" (2.5cm) DIMENSIONS: 5.5" x 14.5" x 8.25"(without base) 24" x 5.75" x 4.5" (vertical without pedestal base) WEIGHT: 8 lbs. My guess is this, If you need something slim for a wall mount, then the RVX-42 is necessary Otherwise if you need the space and the depth is not an issue, then the RCX-4 would be ideal. If size is no object, get RC-XX ----------------
  3. Well, I can't take on all of these questions but I will say that the RF25's I listened to were considerably fuller sounding than the RF15's with or without a sub. They just had a lot more body. And they gave up nothing in the midrange. To keep your price point low you might want to look at the RB35's which are less money but I have not personally heard them. From what I have personally heard and read NAD has kept the same sound although some say the newer gear is a little less dark sounding. YMMV.
  4. The difference is likely to be greater extension into the low bass and a little higher output capability. If your 10" goes loud enough it's really about bass extension. I would not expect a larger cone to provide more detail than a smaller one. It will probably provide the same or a little bit less.
  5. I'm heading out tonight to see them, and also to check out the Mythos line (can I say that here?) Based on the listening I've done with the RF series, I am very eager to hear the RVX line. B&W also has a FP line and I should check those out too but the RF series was so superior to the 600 series I'm not sure I'll bother.
  6. I wondered about the RCX4 and the RVX42 too. Although the drivers are the same I believe that with the larger cabinet the RVX42 is likely to sound fuller as a result. I'll try to demo them this week and will get back on this when I do. ---------------- On 1/17/2005 3:47:46 AM 007 wrote: Im saving up for the 54's, but I can pretty much guess they wont have the bass extension of the 35's but they probably have better midrage, and definitely better soundstage. If you mix them with a subwoofer and get the crossover just perfect, I'm guessing you wont even notice thier lack of bass extension. I also asked a Klipsch representative who has heard the 54's if my RCX-4 would be a good center over the RVX-42. They both have the same drivers and number of them. I was told the RCX-4 would be perfect and there was virtually no need to change it. However, I have yet to heard both speakers to compare them. ----------------
  7. RVX54 has 4 5 1/4" woofers RVX42 has 2 4" woofers. An undermatch for the center channel? Anyone?
  8. So does the RVX42 hold up well as a center to the RVX54 or are you losing out here. Or, would the RCX4 be a better center choice?
  9. Can't comment directly on the Synergy's but I've been auditioning the RF25's and each time I have they sound full and rich. This on three different systems. I think I'll be picking up a pair for my new condo.
  10. I like your thinking. What if I put K-horns in each of the corners of the room and suspended another 4 of them from the ceilings in each corner, too? Then I could sit in the middle and none of them would fall on me.
  11. OMG. Now that is over the top. Hope you like your new room better and ended up with your LaScala's. I did notice a bias here towards the larger RF models but thought the HT forum would be the best place to ask and that the ProMedia forums would lead me in the RSX direction. I'll try there too.
  12. Hi, how big is your room? I have a small space and am trying to decide between them and going with the smaller RF speakers.
  13. Thanks for your insight. I definitely liked what I heard from the RF25's better than the RF15's. They were more full bodied, which I attribute to the larger cone and larger cabinet. They were smoother on Sheryl Crow's voice and they had an authority that I just liked better. That's not to say I didn't like the RF15's but the RF25's were better all around and easily worth the $. My issue is that I believe the speaker/room interface plays a large role in how good a system sounds. Put a tiny speaker in a large room and it gets swallowed up. Put a large floor stander in a small room and it doesn't have room to breathe. I just don't know if the RF25's in a 5.1 setup are ideal in a 12x12 room. If not, I'd rather go with RSX's and build out my living room stereo. It is much larger and would easily support RF35's or above. My sub is a Sunfire True.
  14. Hi Everyone, You really have a great forum here. I never would have expected to see so many folks and with such great attitudes - it must be the horns. Seriously, though I am about to move into a new condo and am in the process of setting up a home theater in a small space. The room is 12x12 and it will house a sofa, 55" or 60" LCD Rear projection TV and 5.1 channels of surround. I currently have Klipsch Quintets but want to upgrade. The other day I was at Barrett's in suburban Chicago and I listened to the RF series and although I loved the body and full range sound of the 25's (somewhat less so the 15's) with matching center and surrounds I am worried that they will overload the room. My other option is to get RSX5's and 4's instead. The difference in cost doesn't matter; I just want what will work best in this small environment. Any thoughts/ advise? I have about 6 weeks until move in and then comes the NCAA Big Dance.
