  1. Thank you Russ, and all, My room, electronics, etc.. are all fine. I am not trying to improve anything. I was curious if anyone had modified there RF 7 crossovers to drive the 10's seperately, and if it tightened up the bottom end. I use the 7's for video (processed surround) and the ML's for purely 2 channel. It stands to reason that 2 paralleled 10" drivers will not have the same responsiveness that an 8" driver does, or even 2 discretely controlled 10's. They move air, and dig deep, but the attack and decay are "slow" in comparison. Again, thank you
  2. Thank you David, I hadn't thought of that. I will pull the xover out of my RC 7 and see what they did.
  3. The bass is right for the room, as my wife chased me to the basement so I had to build a "mancave" for my toys. I have been a long time RF fan, settling in on the 7's years ago. I typically listen at lower volumes, where the wall of sound is wonderful. It is just that now after trying the ML's, the 7's are bloated, and slow on the bottom end, and i am curious if anyone has messaged the xovers to get a handle on them. Thank you, Bob
  4. I recently grabbed a set of highly reveiwed ML sources. In the same room, same location, with the same gear, they out perform my RF 7's in the bass department. The ML's are very accurate, authorative in the bass department. The 7's now come accross as Very bloomy, almost heavy sounding in the bottom end. So, my question being has anyone looked at reworking the crossovers to seperate the 10's ? I beleive both drivers are in parallel. Other than port plugging, and things to "dampen" the bloom, I am curious if anyone has made a change in the crossover in the tame them a bit. This may have been better suited over in the "mods" area, but, both are used for 2 channel listening. Thanks.
  5. In your man cave, is there a decibel level cap? Only when she's home. Not so much for the volume, but the fact that John Lee Hooker and Buddy Guy's music "make her want to slit her wrists". She doesn't share my appreciation for the art of music........
  6. I have owned both, and currently have all VTL. You have heard the cliche' "he designs his amps to sound like tubes" (David Haffler, Bob Carver), well, to me the Balanced Audio sounds like "tubes designed to sound like transistors"............... Very true to form, but, a little to sterile sounding for my likeing. Klipsch are very revealing speakers, very dynamic, so if you put some good tubed gear out ahead of them, pianos, guitars, etc sound so real its allmost eerie. Also, the VTL are capable of some serious bass control, especially with the signature transformers. Nice thing is with the brands you mention, buy one from agon, and if its not your cup of tea you will most likely get all of your money back. Good luck and keep the thread updated. PS, don't overlook the VTL ST 150 (stereo 150). Allthough not mono, it is a beast and can be had for $2K or a little less than. Great amp, mates very well with the 2.5
  7. I am 6 miles south of Prescott. Take hwy 10 as far west as you can in the state, and wha-la. Give me a few days heads up, and bring your favorite discs over on a Saturday or Sunday. I built a "man cave" in the basement this winter so when the wife punishes me, thats where I am sent (oh darn)....... and I don't disturb her.
  8. Klipsch parts dept. I have dealt with them a few times, fast, curtious, and you can't beat o.e.m.
  9. A Wadia cdp > VTL 5.5 > VTL 185 Signature mono blocks. I run RCA blackplates in the pre and o.e.m. in the mono's.
  10. Just for clarification. Niether pair of my reference series sound boxie. The 3's and 7's both dissapear when listening. Just my opinion on the initial XX vs XX que posted. All 3 sets have been listened to through my 2 channel set up which makes the reference series dissapear, and gnats *** accurate, while the heritage sound like speakers, again, too me....
  11. Which Haffler do you have? I had the DH500 years ago, and what a brute. I drove a pair of Infinity RS 2.5's, which licked up alot of power through the crossovers before ever getting to the drivers, but, it would peel paint and not even break a sweat. Also, being the initial question was XX vs XX, I will take the reference series hands down. To me, the reference line doesn't lack a thing. At low volumes which is where I typically listen, they presennt a huge sound stage, top to bottom, and are very well balanced. The Chorus II I had as well as the Heresy II's I have now sound(ed) like speakers. They are "boxie" sounding, where as the Reference that I have dissapear and let the recording flow.
  12. I had seen an article on this on the web, so for X-Mas this year I figured I would gift one to the wife. I moved all of my serious gear to the man cave, so we needed something upstairs for background music. I run hers through a pair of RF 3's I had, and for the $400 price tag its not a bad little rig, and would be a cheap intro into tubes for anyone wanting to sample them. You wont host a neighborhood block party with it, but through efficient speaks, it fills a good size room with descent sound. The pluses for her were, it has a remote (albeit cheap), it's "pretty" (they have blue l.e.d. lighting @ the base of the sockets), and it has an input for her ipod she received a year earlier as a gift. When she opened it on X-Mas, she was dumb-founded, hadn't a clue, but today I couldn't move it if I wanted too.

    Pink Floyd DVD

Having two of them (both?) I'd say get both lol. Although it's substantially the same show, the first one has little... (whats her name)...oh, Venus Hum who sings Donna Summers, drats, what's the name, "I feel love"?? and man, this little girl has a pair of lungs. This is in my view, easily as good as any song on this dvd. I have to agree with Coytee on this one. Venus Hum Rocks! I have this one and it is always a crowd pleaser...... It is not something I would play everyday, but if you want to enjoy great percussion and a great concert, this is a fun one. Dennie Ditto, and if you ever get the chance, spend the $120 to see them. We caught them in Vegas a year ago it it was one of the most memerable shows we have seen. The musicians are actually in cages above the stage with some great visual effects as well as percussion.
  14. A VTL stereo 150 will man handle them very nicely. I ran one for a few years before I could afford my new 185 signature mono's. I see used ones pop up on Agon from time to time for at or a little less than your budget.
