  1. Jay481985 wrote the following post at 03-04-2006 3:52 AM: would say the timbre might be off but how much I cannot say. The new rf-83 is crossed at 1650 highpass while the rf-7 is 2200. That is why the rf-7 lacked a midrange.... cause some of the midrange was handled by a 10 inch woofer! but it should not be as drastic as say two different companies like one horn and one dome tweeter. If the RF-7's have a high-current quality amp, there is no lack of midrange. To get the very best from the RF-7's, the equipment must be right, but given this, the RF-7's will reward you with a stunning performance that will please you for years to come. Some complain of a slight midrange loss with lesser quality equipment, or lack of high-current quality amps.
  2. I went from K-horns to RF-7's and never looked back.
  3. The RF-7's are great speakers, hope you get your problem solved, just be patient and you will tackle down the source of the problem. Keep us posted with your success. [8]
  4. It's the biggest problem that the Heritage line faces, little dealer support or even knowledge of them. Maybe it would be better for Klipsch to take the Heritage line to their Ebay Store and sell them from there (to save the Heritage line), as it's not coming from dealers anymore since they mostly deal with the Reference/Senergy Lines. The only problem with taking it to even the Ebay way for Klipsch, I'm certain they won't be giving the buyer any options to price bargin as you would with a dealer! It's a whole new way to tap into to save the line if Klipsch is willing to be smart about it, because in general, most people don't even know the Heritage line exist.
  5. It's hard for many to understand this with RF-7's, but if you want to go from good to superb, you are going to need an amp with atleast 200wpc or more with a very good amp, not a cheap one!!!!!!!!!! You will hear the difference in many areas, not just volume!!! It is what the RF-7's really need to sing in the superb sound enjoyment. I've been there, done it, and had to do it myself to get to where my RF-7's are today. For the RF-7's to give it's very best, there is no other way around it. It's very much worth it to give what the RF-7's need for it to sing superb from just plain good.
  6. Very surprisingly pleased with my current setup, first time ever that I have been this close to nirvana and not feel compelled to change anything in the system, I've had many speakes from the past, including Klipsch and the Klipsch RF-7's are an amazing speaker with current setup. The only speaker that changed this guy from Klipschorn's to RF-7's, although I did have to invest more $$$ into equipment to get this superb sound from the RF-7's. Would I do it again? Yes, in a heart beat! It's very easy to answer this every time I sit down and listen to this amazing sound I get from this system. I've reached the contentment point that the setup will grow old with me thanks to the help from the Klipsch RF-7's. Wish more people could enjoy this amazing setup, as it will give them just as much as enjoyment it gives me.
  7. jpm, I started with Heritage, and ended up with Reference and still much perfer the RF-7 to those, Just purchased a 1990 Cornwall-II and 2005 Klipschorn from a business man that moved to Norway, setup and listen to them for a couple of months, I knew I could make more than I offered him for them for which was the motive to get them, still the performance that the RF-7's give me is still unmatched for this setup. Some guys just simply put, like the Heritage sound in general, for which it sounds could be your likings. It's very important for the RF-7's to be setup right before you will even understand what these great speakers can truly do, and you will have to forget bargin equipment to get there, but the rewards are truely bliss. Just about any Klipsch speaker will give you lots of enjoyment though!
  8. The RF-5's are great speakers, they are very impressive for their size, however, some may claim to like the overall performance of the RF-5's, I find most have more a liking to the RF-7's performance, when setup right for RF-7's to give it's bestest. If the RF-7's are setup with the right equipment and atleast given a min. of 200watts per channel, as many suggest here (including myself), the RF-7's give an absolutely stunnning unforgettable performance. It's the only Klipsch speaker to have me go from the Klipschorn's to the RF-7's and truely feel it was an upgrade with no regrets at all! The RF-5's do not come to this performance level with same setup, but indeed do sound very satisfying but not to the degree of the stunning performance of the RF-7's that has a Wow-factor I've never heard before with imaging, dimensions, singer center postion that sounds very realistic in and performance areas where there is no question to go with the RF-7's for myself, You also will not get the same bass out of the RF-5's as you do with the RF-7's if that is an important aspect for your likes. If you do not like more in-your-face performance, as the RF-7's are, then you may want to take it down a bit to the RF-5.
  9. DrWho said: "I do prefer the RF-5 over the RF-7...and I don't like the khorn. I say this just as a point of reference because I tend to be the oddball on the forum" Not the only oddball here, I found out the very same after I went to the RF-7's, still amazed with it's performance by far than my Klipschorn's were in several areas when the RF-7's are given what it needs to truely shine at it's best. Never thought I would do it, but I ended up selling my Klipschorn's from not listening to them anymore, so it nows has me in the Klipsch Reference line preferer.
  10. Both great Klipsch speakers but I prefer the warmer smoother sound of the RF35. If you prefer the more "IN YOUR FACE" and a little harder on the ears, so to speak, than the Forte would be your cup of tea.
  11. "Fish" makes a very, very good point here, something we all should remember and keep in mind.
  12. I guess I did not make my point too clear. What I am saying is, if you have a good amp, the RF-7 is NOT bass shy, it goes deep and it goes low without a sub from what is expected. Agreed, Now if we want to talk about getting the lowest and deepest organ pedals and the like, you will have to have a sub, most speakers will, such as the RF-7 or Klipschorn will need a sub to get that lowest organ pedal desires. I'm not even trying to dispute that. The RF-7's have very good bass but much depends on the amp used with it, I know this first hand, this is why we hear some complain they don't get good bass or others who say they get excellent bass. I cannot stress enough to people that you must put quality with the RF-7's, not in-between. The RF-7's are worth putting the quality needed to it's best performance.
  13. Regardless of all the fuss being made here, how quick some of you forget to realize that the RF-7's do a great job of what it does. I've had Klipschorn's and now I have RF-7's. You DO NOT need a sub if you have a good amp. I have 4 RF-7's (2-pair) on one amp and I have NEVER had any clipping at all, not even once. I think Dylani's problem is more due to his amp than the RF-7. I absolutely love the RF-7's. Just enjoy the RF-7's, they are outstanding speakers and give an excellent music presentation that mere words and a good amp cannot describe but must be heard. Do not question excellence, to question is only to confuse.
  14. OMG! Quick, I really think Dean needs a doctor this time! Looks like she already blew her insides out. OMG, how can one do that to such a beauty of brand new Klipschorn? I just don't know.
  15. skonopa had this to say: Hmmm.... Very, very interesting. This has to be the first time that I've seen anybody get rid of K-horns in favor of the RF-7s. Nope, I did the same and wrote about it here some time back. I no longer have my Klipschorn's but still have my RF-7's and I'm still very satisfied with them. I still have no regrets with the move I took and have reached the pinnacle of my audio expectations and that is very amazing for this very experienced audio buff to say.
  16. I've had no problems with Klipsch RF-7's so far !
  17. $1180.00 for a pair of RF-7's! I've never heard of GoodGuys ever going that low, are they a display model deal?
  18. That is "In your opinion" RobbL, you must realize not all will hear it the same as you. Not all like that large of a soundfield, but some will seek it out only. One way is not the all way. Enjoy what you like as your "IMO" and let others enjoy what they like "IMO". Both are very nice but we don't need to say one is better than the other as this is only in the ear of the beholder! There are many people who prefer the RF-7 over the large Heritage line and there are many who perfer the Heritage. Your ears will differ to others liking. Enjoy and be civil.
  19. It's not just you. I used to own Klipschorn's, now I own 4 RF-7 speakers. Am I happy with my change? Yes I am indeed! The RF-7's are fantastic. RF-7's need a very well setup for you to hear what it truely has to offer and you won't hear it on cheap stuff, so don't be cheap, give these speakers what they deserve and they will give back in 10 folds. If you are set on cheaper equipment, don¡¦t get RF-7¡¦s or you will NEVER hear them at their best! Now, with that said, it's all subjective to each individual! Some over hype the Heritage line only to disappoint some who go the extra reach to get them and find it wasn¡¦t better than their Reference, only different. It¡¦s harder for some to go from Reference to Heritage because of this different sound. A few very respected people in the audio business that were using Klipshorn¡¦s that now own RF-7¡¦s have written about it and the differences that are a good read, but it has upset some Heritage fans. The Klipschorn¡¦s are great speakers and I loved mine when I had them, but I¡¦m loving my RF-7¡¦s even more. I love the smoothness, imaging, dimensions, 3D presentation, accurate recreations of acoustics, a resolution from the metal cones that is to die for, and piano, violin, guitar strings, bells, drum rolls, and such sound much more realistic on the RF-7¡¦s, IMO. Again, very SUBJECTIVE to each human. The RF-7¡¦s are VERY UNDERRATED and most misunderstood by many Klipsch Heritage fans, but don¡¦t let this stop you from your own findings or you could possibly miss out on one of the best sounding speakers out there put out by Klipsch! Again, equipment will play a BIG part on the sound you will get from the RF-7 as it needs QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY, even more so than the Heritage did. Now, before the RF-7¡¦s, did I EVER think I would give up my Klipschorn¡¦s?? No Sir, not on your life! But the RF-7¡¦s changed all that for me. It¡¦s good that Klipsch offers the two choices to let each find what he or she likes better for themselves! Choice is always better than NO CHOICE. --Yes, I have heard RF-7's. They are a nice product. But they are not in the same league a most of the Heritage line.-- I strongly have a difference with this statement Royster! To you, yes! To me, NO! Again SUBJECTIVE. What works for you, doesn¡¦t work for me. Do you see where this is going?? VERY SUBJECTIVE. They are different sounds, neither is better. However the RF-7 can hold it¡¦s own and it¡¦s very easy to hear this on a very good setup. The Klipschorn or RF-7 are very good, can¡¦t go wrong with either, matter of fact¡K..when have you ever heard a bad sounding Klipsch speaker at that? I don¡¦t think Klipsch has ever put out a bad sounding speaker! Klipsch has always been known for putting out some of the best speakers for the price, meaning you get a lot of speaker for the price. Can¡¦t put down a Klipschorn speaker, can¡¦t put down a RF-7 speaker, both are VERY GOOD! Different is the key word here, not better¡K¡K¡K¡K better is only what YOU like more, not someone else, don¡¦t listen to anyone¡¦s hype, including mine, make your own decision what you like better, that is the one that counts the most, you are the one that will live with your choice for years of enjoyment, make sure you will by happy by your right choice. One thing to remember too, is that there isn¡¦t a lot of understanding from some about the RF-7¡¦s being that the RF-7¡¦s have a very critical Heritage crowd presence to heed to and that kind of change isn¡¦t easy for years of Heritage users that have been pleased with the Heritage sound. The RF-7¡¦s get hard blows from die hard Heritage fans so you just have to put some things into prospective and finalize your own choice. Let¡¦s all remember to respect each for what we like, and why we like it, not mine is better than yours, that won¡¦t appreciate the differences, be opened minded!! There is NO bad sounding speaker choice here!!!!!!! Both very good, both hold it¡¦s own. -- From my understanding the RF-7 was designed mainly for Home Theater-- Tkdamerica, according to Klipsch own advertising: ¡§The RF-7 Reference Series flagship loudspeaker was designed to provide the highest level of two-channel as well as Home Theater¡¨. I find the RF-7¡¦s are better in my 2-channel setup for music than in Home Theater. Your results my vary. However, my setup is built around 2-channel and NOT home theater. I have a different setup for my Home Theater. --WaveMan says: However, if you want to recreate a Jazz ensemble in front of you, or listen to studio recordings the way they were meant - with proper imaging and soundstage - then the RF7's are unmatched in the entire Klipsch line-up... I've owned and heard lots of Klipsch's products, and that is IMO....-- I agree with you, I feel the same way! IMO! It¡¦s good that each Klipsch user is happy with what Klipsch speaker they have! Shows you just how good a company Klipsch is when they can have that strong of a following for all their different lines! º The RF-7¡¦s are smoother on the ears, that is to my liking, however I can understand how Heritage users get used to that really in your face Heritage sound and goes to the ears in all it¡¦s rawness, that is much like how a concert does but I must admit that sometimes listening to my Klipschorn¡¦s it¡¦s very much really an all out sound that is too big and too much to the ears that I started to notice after going with the RF-7¡¦s but I don¡¦t mean it in a bad way so please relax Klipschorn users! I mean that in the concert sense¡K. Some guys get really excited about the pure rawness of this kind of sound, like at a concert. No doubt the Klipschorn will fill that for sure! The RF-7¡¦s do get LOUD, and very accurate! Enjoy every one!
  20. GOPHER & JulieHeartKlipsch, Heritage vs. Reference is all pretty subjective. One is not better than the other, different is more the word. I've known many people who felt mislead by persons insinuating the Heritage line is superior, only for the person to be let down that the Heritage wasn't an upgrade to the Reference they were using, rather different. Some like this different, some do not. This is why it's very important for each to listen and decide what YOU like, not what someone else says of what the likes. I own 4 RF-7 speakers, what did I use before that! Klipschorn's. What do I like better, the Klipsch RF-7! The RF-7 gives a very Hi-End quality sound that is fully balanced when teamed with hi-end seps, that the Klipschorn's can't do. Now, as you know, not all here would agree with me for their use of Klipschorn's, so you see, VERY SUBJECTIVE!!! Not good to push one's own likes, rather get out and have a listen to a well setup Reference speaker, and a listen to the Heritage, then decide for yourself. I'm sure you could find someone in your area to let you have a listen that would be a better chance of being setup better than most dealers put care into proper setup.
  21. imperfectcircle25, I would take a look at your equipment as the culprit. I was in the same situation as you, when I first installed my RF-7's. I had to end up spending more money to upgrade my equipment, every thing, and the results were a drastic fantastic change. The mids do not lack, they are full, forward, rich, smooth, creamy, detailed, inviting, and involving. To get the best from the RF-7's, you have to give it best quality or you won't get results as mentioned. I agree, once you hear what the RF-7's can really do, there will be no parting with them. The investment I made in equipment was well worth what I get back from the RF-7's and now I own 3 pair of RF-7's. I use it for 2-channel music only, and the results are nothing short of astounding, nothing twice it's price can match what the RF-7's give you. Any time I sit down and have a listen to my RF-7's, I am still stunned by their sound quality and the separates used with it. The RF-7's will not be the limitation in the system, but the system will limit the RF-7's! I can relate to some of what DeanG said, I used to own Klipschorn's but with much debate in my mind to sell them or not to sell them. I realized I was listening to my RF-7's more and more and not the Klipschorn's, I actually started to prefer the RF-7's over my Klipschorn's but I've gotten flamed for saying that from some Heritage users, but to each her/his own, it's all in the beholder's ear. I sold my Klipschorn's and now only have RF-7's. I've been very pleased and satisfied with the results. Most people have never heard just how well a set of RF-7's can sound properly setup. Pity dealers aren't setting these up well for listeners to gasp, shocked, and stunned for what they can do to you, when well equipped. Good Luck either way you go imperfectcircle25!
  22. Yes, that's a good deal! Go for it before it's too late. You will LOVE the RF-7's. Everyone does who have them.
  23. The veneer quality is good! It's easy to do the work yourself, but if you don't want to, ALWAYS get a second or third opinion! Some people over-change what another will do for much less. I come across this all the time, so find someone else that can do it for a better price. It's simple to fix, I do this type of fixes all the time. Good Luck.
  24. Yes, you only need to replace the diaphram. Magnet structure is fine and don't go bad, very very rare for one to.
  25. Thanks for the helpful links DeanG! DeanG, no need to get sensitive about my comments on the RF-7. I hear you do great work and quality crossovers. Im just saying the RF-7s do very well on its own. Im running an excellent audio equipment with my RF-7s and its very smooth and very exceptional performance. I feel I do not need anymore than what I get. If one feels differently, I would say by all means, go for it. RF-7s can have quite different sound/responses by what components you choose. In my case I have no need to want to touch the crossovers. I get no shrill, no harsh, nothing like some post claim, not even slightly but Im sure it has very much to do with components used. Mine are like a very smoooooth fine whiskey. I think its great that you do crossovers for those who want to improve their sound.
