  1. I have never heard of W. Covington, and I don't know how Boots Randolph(hokey yackity sax)got included in this otherwise stellar group, but all the rest (Young, Torme/Rich, Gibbs, Jacquet, et al)are long-time jazz greats and are well worth the effort. I would like to hear them myself.
  2. I'll report on how everything is going once I get the h/a, get them programmed correctly, etc. I understand it can take several sessions to get them "tuned" just right in each memory, but will let you know as it happens.
  3. That must have been rough losing it all at once like that. As you say, it will take some retraining, but it has to be an improvement. It will be nice to hear a wire brush on a cymbal sound like a wire brush on a cymbal instead of like a distant broken steam pipe. there are better days ahead.
  4. Thanks. I appreciate the info. I assume there will be a learning curve and some getting used to, but anything approaching natural sound will be an improvement over the muffled and limited sound I have now, regardless of any programming restrictions. I don't know why I'm so worried about the extreme highs and lows anyway because I sure don't have them now. In spite of everything, I really enjoy my Fortes. I am looking forward to hearing them even better. Thanks again for the kind words.
  5. I finally bit the bullet today and ordered two digital, programmable hearing aids. After 40+ years around airplanes my hearing loss has finally deteriorated to moderate-severe past 2KHz. As a result, I suspect I'm not getting the most out of my Fortes even though I turn the volume up to where everyone else has to leave the room/house. I have been told that even the latest state of the art h/a can't be programmed lower than 250Hz or higher than somewhere around 6KHz. If there is anyone out there with h/a+Klipsch, I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with them; i.e. do you have a h/a memory dedicated to them, or it? If so, how does it work? Do you take them out while listening to music and crank up the volume so as not to miss the highs and lows? If these questions are considered too personal, please disregard them. I'm not trying to pry into anyone's medical history, it's just that I don't know what to expect and would appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks in advance, and thanks for the great forum.
  6. I did as much rearranging as room/furniture allowed. I'm now about 11'-12' between speakers and approximately the same to listening position. Toed in about 30 degrees or so. I agree, this arrangement gives great sound. The only weak spot in the entire setup is my high freq hearing loss, but I'm taking care of that as we speak. Just ordered some hearing aids and am looking forward to what they can do for me. I think I'll start a new thread re h/a. I know there must be others out there with the same problem.
  7. Thanks for all of the excellent Forte input and support. It's nice to know I made a good choice, even though I wasn't familiar with Klipsch, old or new, at the time. I'm not sure I'm getting the most out of them because of placement restrictions/room layout, but they sound marvelous to me. Because of furniture placement, I can't get them any closer together than 12-13 feet. As a result, I have to toe them in probably 20 degrees to come anywhere near a "sweetspot." If I could pull them more into the room I could get them closer together, but I read somewhere that the passive radiator(s) should be 12-18 inches from a wall to be most effective. If I have to leave them that close to the wall, I can't pull them into the room. Is placement that critical with Fortes? Could this be better explored in a new thread? Thanks again for all your help.
  8. Thanks for the welcome and the Forte perspective. I couldn't bring myself to mention in my first post that I am a recovering Bose 901/VI user, but that makes these Fortes really sweet, indeed. Coming from 901s, I think I must appreciate the Fortes more than normal. I can't even imagine what Cornwalls or La Scalas must sound like.
  9. Hello. I am new to the forum, but have really enjoyed what I have seen so far. I have a pair of near mint Fortes (not IIs)that I like very much. I am presently using them with Carver amp, preamp and tuner (M-1.5t, C-1 and TX-11a). This setup sounds great to me. I am wondering just where Fortes place, qualitywise and preferencewise, in the Klipsch lineup. Of the posts I have read so far, Klipschorns, LaScalas, Belles and Cornwalls seem to dominate the discussions. But not much on original Fortes. Is there a significant difference in build quality and quality of sound (subjective as that may be)between Fortes and, say, Cornwalls? Do I have "entry-level" Klipsch speakers and just don't know it? I know Fortes can't compare with Klipschorns or La Scalas, but how are they really regarded within the Klipsch family? Thanks for the great forum. I've learned a lot in a short time.
