  2. The ultras dont have a problem, the older 5.1's did. You can get the ultras then swap out the sats for something better like RB-25's or RSX's which may have a better crossover match. It will still be a little less than getting a receiver with a separate subwoofer unless you get really cheap stuff. My advice, grab the ultras for 350, then buy a pair of RSX-4's for 200 off the internet. I owned the DDTS but sold it, I would stick with soundcard decoding. Try the audigy4
  3. I have a RSX-5 sat that has a busted midrange woofer. It makes fuzzy sounds and cuts out entirely once in a while. The speaker was NOT purchased from an authorized dealer and I have already ordered a new one from goodguys. I would however like to take the speaker apart for fun-sakes but Im not sure how to do it. Is there a 7th Allen bolt beneath the plastic silver cap on the very top of the speaker? If i cant get it open nicely, I'll just cut it open. The speaker is pretty much dead and its only 200 bucks, its not a big deal but any help on taking it apart correctly would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you
  4. The NAD looks very nice indeed. How much could I get it for?
  5. good call, i also recomend the sub-10/12 or rw-12
  6. somthing that is 500-600 msrp that i can get for 350-450 dollars. I'm considering the hk-235, denon 2105 or 1905 or maybe a yammy. i would like 7.1 with the best DAC's i can get for the price. high power is not a concern. 50 watts/chan is plenty thanx

  8. Not yet, but I would be surprised if they didnt sound good, but Andy seems like hes holding something back from us? The rsx-5's were a huge improvement over my pm sats even if the crossover was not a perfect mate. However, the RSX-5's need a pretty big subwoofer to keep up!

  10. Ok I will add thoes to the review, later tonight. Thank you!
  11. Nope, energy in the form of waves be it sound, water, vibrations on a string or earthquakes can not "collide" They simply pass though each other as if the other wave did not exists. However at the point they are in contact, the amplitude of the two waves becomes a single wave with average amplitude of the two only during the time they are in contact. Waves can cancel or amplify each other if they are similar in frequencies and direction. That why it is important to have your subwoofers in phase with each other so they dont tend to cancel one another out. But once sound waves pass though each other they resort back to their exact former amplitudes. Waves only effect each other during the duration they are in contact. Furthermore, the only aspect of the wave that is affected is the amplitude which is simply volume. The frequencies or sound quality will be unaffected. The only important thing you have to worry about in your system is phase shifts. If your speakers are all the same distance to your ideal listening seat or position, you have nothing to worry about.
  12. thats why its important to have other people read it, I get a little sick of editing my own essays.. 4500+ words. but thanks, that helps
  13. Where are the spelling mistakes? They don't show up in word at least.
  14. Yes, its rough draft right now, and I need to fix it so the pictures so for mac's I'll redo it in a standard HTML format. Thanks everyone
  15. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=67393&pageNo=1&num=30&sessionID={B79990E3-83DD-4CBA-A843-AB681EBE5C23} I'm guessing some of you "may" want an inexpensive 2.1 solution for a den or bedroom. But you proably have Heresy's (or better) in the bedroom anyway ;P Anyway, I wrote up a looooong review so please read it and please let me know if if you like it.
  16. hmm...24 hours no replies.. where is Andy? I have some questions for him. 1. I want to know if the amp is BASH and what differences it has in terms of making sure it wont die, over older pm amps. If you cant answer that its fine. 2. Does it really have a close to Ultra sub FQ response. I honestly guessed at the -3dB because it was not posted, but all you're reference stuff is measured by the 3, NOT the 5dB like the Promedia. This sort of bridges the two products lines so I was not sure, but assumed the -3dB number for the review. 3. Is the subwoofer driver aluminum? I did not dare take the grill off this sub because I was VERY careful with the system (It actually is a gift I got for someone else) The driver looks like its a reference driver, but it could also be painted silver paper composite. 4 Is the subwoofer finished in vinyl or paint? It looks like silver paint upclose! 5. I worked hard on this, I hope Klipsch appreciates it even if its a crappy review which it probably is because its my first, but I would like one favor from Amy. Can I please have my old account name back? Thank you.
  17. I had to make the thing in Word. Perhaps Ill code it in html the proper way so its faster as has correct word wrap around pictures, but this gets the point across, and I gave you guys plenty of pictures enjoy... this took quite a while to make Start here: Introduction direct page links (if needed) Hardware Subwoofer Accessories Test Drive Crossover Conclusion Also, if there are any corrects I need to make or if I have misstated a certain facts, please let me know. Thanks
  18. Added a second sub is a substantial difference, but I feel the real advantage is not so much overall SPL as it is, you don't have to drive each subwoofer hard. Hence more headroom and less distortion as well *** the ability for non-collocation arrangements. Its no surprise that Klipsch did not design the KW-120 with two woofers but rather just gave to two single woofer subwoofers for this purpose. It sounds better when you have subs on both sides, especially when they are capable! The louder they hit, the easier they are to tell. I have heard that some people have problems with PB12-Ultra/2's being somewhat directional. I know one guy is actually selling is Ultra/2 for two Ultra/1's.
  19. Its for my parents anniversary, they both have ipods and crappy Altec inMotions and bose speakers in the bedroom. They needed help!
  20. Wow, this subwoofer is clean! Its a bit of a deception because unlike the ultra's there is not +dB gains that reduce with overall volume. In other words, with the ultra's you could not turn up the bass to 15 past certain volume level along with the center and rears. It was some sort of power borrow scheme that totaled to 80. So for example, if the volume was at 70, you got 10 extra shared between the sub and rears any way you want. So to get the bass max on this system you have to turn it up nearly all the way but the bass does not back off like it did in the ultras so it gets very loud! I unplugged the sats and this thing hit a little harder than my old SWS , a bit cleaner and deeper too. There was absolutely no distortion so far. This is very impressive 8" subwoofer. I think Klipsch has perfected the port even further, I can't hear any port noise. This is yet another evolutionary step from the older promedia design. Jay, you got to hear this thing in a bedroom! WHOA! Its nice!
