  1. Mike, Right. The left channel has way too much gain, and the replacement volume pot barely goes to 8 o'clock until it is too loud. It's an Audcom AP100...out of business for almost two years. (I only paid $170 for it, but am wondering if that was too much, since I already put about $100 in unneeded repairs.) The volume control was replaced (as well as the tube sockets), because one channel was not going all the way down with the volume off. Since the volume control was changed, the volume goes all the way down, but there is too much gain in the left channel. My tech is trying to locate another volume potentiometer to replace the one the he already installed. Do you think that could be the problem? By the way I took out the old Chinese tubes, and replaced them with Western Electric 396A's...much warmer and revealing...less harsh and brittle. Do you think these replacement tubes might have caused this as you said "a resistor has changed values causing the circuit perimeters to...change(d)"? Thanks, Andy
  2. Mike, I'd like to continue using this pre-amp, because when it was working correctly it produced really good results...great sound stage...very musical...really open sound. The Behringer is just a temporary fix until my tech is able to figure out what the problem is. (bad or wrong volume pot?) As far as distortion goes, the Behringer does an excellent job at removing it, and the amp that I am getting also has input level controls. Here is the link to the amp: www.angelfire.com/biz/bizzyb/TAD-60.html Andy
  3. Lee, I seem to have had some success as suggested by Behringer technical support by adjusting each channel independently in the dual mono mode. I will also try your suggestion to see how it differs from what I did. Thanks, Andy
  4. I have read the manual, and the only thing that I can come with are the DEQ and WIDTH modes. All I want to do is get a correct balance in the speakers and a flat response, and the manual gives no answers.
  5. I currently own a tube preamp that has a high gain problem in the right channel and am running it through my Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra Curve Pro to correct this. My solid state Sherbourn amplifier will not allow me to adjust the volume, as I won't be able to do so until I get my new TAD-60 tube amp for two channel listening. Also, 12 DB attenuators do not work, because the gain is very excessive. I want my system to sound as neutral as possible from the line stage, because I am trying different tubes to see what sounds best. How do I ensure that my Behringer settings are 'flat'? What settings do I go into in my Behringer to have the correct balance? Do I go into the DEQ menu, WIDTH menu, or both? Basically, I want a 'flat' response with even balance in both speakers. Please advise. Thanks!
  6. What are the benefits of matched tubes for a line stage preamp? It it necessary? What are acceptable readings on them, and what are unacceptable? I just got my first tube preamp and am loving it with some NOS Western Electric/National Electric 396A tubes and cannot believe how my Forte II's are singing! What a difference from my solid state preamp!
  7. I am having a hard time finding them. The 5C21 will work also as well as the 5670.
  8. Does anyone have a set of these available for sale? I am interested in these for my preamp. Thanks!
  9. This is my first tube preamp, and I just got this deal on an Audcom AP100. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for replacement tubes, because the ones that are in it seem to be a little bright. I am using a Denon DVD 2900, a Sherbourn 7/2100A amp, and Forte II's as my mains. Has anyone tried the Mullard 12au7's with an Audcom? Any suggestions to get a warmer sound? Thanks!
  10. Has anyone ever heard of this company? I thought it was Adcom at first, but it is not. I might be able to purchase one for about $190.
  11. Will La Scala's and Forte II's match sonically in a home theater set-up? (Currently I also own a set of Forte I's, Quartet's and an Academy.)
  12. Has anyone decided to use the old drivers to build a clone or something similar to the PB 12 Plus or PB 12 Plus 2? If so, please forgive my ignorance, but how can this be done? (i.e. wood type, design, dimensions, etc.)
  13. I have a chance to get DBX TX-3 MKII amp along with DBX CX-3 MKII preamp for $200. Does anyone have any experience in these? Is this a good deal?
  14. Anyone upgrading their SVS sub with the new driver? Has anyone done so yet? For $99 each this sounds like a sweet deal! (I believe their special offer ends on July 10th.)
  15. Mary and family, As I read the news of the loss of Ken, my heart was broken and deeply saddened. I lost my father a year ago, but cannot imagine losing a spouse. I am so so sorry! Remember that the Lord is sovereign and to always trust in Him... through good times and bad! Sincerely, Andy Chabak Proverbs 3:5-6
  16. Anyone interested at $200 plus shipping? Thanks!
  17. (I just thought that I'd post this here before I put it up on eBay.) I no longer need this receiver, and have upgraded to separates and am selling for $250 + shipping. It is in excellent condition, comes with the remote; I think I still have the manual. It can do Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II & DTS ES Discrete 6.1 et. al. Here are the specs: http://usa.denon.com/ArchivedAVReceivers.asp?archivedModelSearch=true&clearCurrent=true&archivedCategory=AV&archivedModel=AVR-2802&imageField.x=18&imageField.y=7
  18. Some possible deals on RF-3's if you like to haggle: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/ele/157066824.html http://atlanta.craigslist.org/ele/157010594.html If you are patient, there are deals out there. I purchased 2 pairs of Forte's for $350 and $250 last year from craigslist.
  19. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9700871592&fromMakeTrack=true What are these? Are these for real?
  20. $679 o.b.o. This is a good deal. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?miscrcvr&1147410216
  21. The Denon DVD-2900. You can find them on eBay either refurbished or used. It's a great all-around player.
  22. I recently purchased a package deal on the Sherbourn PT-7010A preamp and the Sherbourn 7/2100A amp. However, I have been having a sound dropout problem with my Comcast digital cable box while watching television. To remedy this I swapped out the cable box several times and even tried another Sherbourn PT-7010A preamp without any luck; the dropout problem still occurs. Therefore, I will probably be selling my preamp, because there is a compatibility issue with Comcast as stated by Sherbourn and a local high end audio store. (I wish I would have known this before my initial purchase.) I do not want to bring them back, because I will also have to forfeit the amp, since this was a package deal. Currently, I own 4 Forte's, an Academy, and 2 Quartets and would like another preamp that is 7 channels that is also great for listening to music. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions?
