  1. It seems that most of the tube power amps I see put out 75 watts or less. What tube amps that are capable of putting out 120 watts or more? Audio Research seems to be the only brand I've heard of, but I keep thinking there must be some classic behemoth tube amps from the 60's and 70's that are fairly high-powered?
  2. In terms of a treatment plan, I'd consider sticking with the orthotics. I have a friend who's been dealing with plantar fasc. for a few years and he swears by them and sees a podiatrist to have custom ones made from time to time. He had a flare last year and finally relented to a steroid injection that helped, although I'm always cautious about them...
  3. I'm in the formative phase of thinking about getting either a Juicy Music Peach or Merlin or the Bottlehead Foreplay III upgrade kit and building my own pre-amp...any thoughts from folks on the sonic merits of one over the other? I have no need for phone pre-amp... I'll admit that I'm intrigued by the idea of building my own and easy access to roll tubes [8-|]...on the other hand, I'm not literate enough to know if Juicy Music pre-amps are better...[8-)]
  4. Hey Mike -- Congrats!!![] So, like the number of CWIII's sold are going to go up once you start, eh???
  5. Does anyone know of a site with information about Technic reel-to-reels? I'm eyeing one on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:BCA:US:11&Item=290040072478 and trying to decide its' what I want. Back when I had an Akai reel-to-reel, I lusted for a Technics deck but I'm not sure if they're as good as we used to dream they were....[8]
  6. Judging my the number of responses from members with chronic pain, I wonder if Fini's e-mail is the start of a Klipsch forum chronic pain support group? There's nothing like getting lost in the Klipsch forum to distract me from pain...[] More seriously, assessing and managing chronic pain is a currently big issue in the national healthcare arena. Almost every medical or nursing journal I pick-up has articles on it and now physicians are required to take class on chronic pain to maintain their license in California (I'm a Clinical Nurse Specialist...). These days its' a matter of getting in to see your primary care provider to evaluate what the pain is from and developing a treatment/management plan... Now if I could just keep it lit...[]
  7. "I didn't know Marinol was used for pain. As far as I know it is only indicated for anorexia associated with weight loss and nausea/vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy. The drug contains Delta-9-THC which is one of the components of marijuana." ______________________________________________________________ Dronabinol is artificial THC, its' true! In clinical practice, it can work synergistically with opiates to potentiate both of them...can also help with opiate-related nausea which I get from fentanyl. Curiosity is that it makes some folks naseous while helping others like me....I always think its a question of whether you ever smoked pot or not and how you reacted to it.
  8. Hey Fini -- Sorry to hear about your chronic pain. I've been dealing with it for a few years now myself, secondary to spinal arthritis/degenerative lumbar and cervical disc disease and I was recently put on permanent disability because of chronic pain from compressed nerve roots and worsening cervical stuff. I've been taking hydromorphone for about a year and recently started adding fentanyl patches to the mix. I'm also on Effexor for depression and both Marinol and Lyrica as adjunctive pain medication for neuropathy. Medical Marijuana can also help, although I don't know if that's my San Francisco bias... It sounds like you've been dealing with the pain for awhile if you took a class 7-months ago to help get a grip on it...Best of luck to you and also kudos for taking the class. My experience has been that the chronic pain stuff just keeps unfolding and I find that I have to simply keep focused on managing my pain and not beat myself up for being unable to "power" through it without medication. I think that not being able to "power" through and complete various projects according to my timeline has been the worse part...nothing stops you in your tracks like chronic pain...its' like hitting a wall. The other rough issue was realizing that I had to take narcotics daily to control my pain and view them as daily medications, like a blood pressure pill or insulin rather then viewing them as crutches... I find its' good to remind myself that even though pain is stopping me in my tracks, its' better then having cancer or cardiovascular disease like a lot of my peers are developing...its' a good trick to keep zenning forward... Anyhow, best of luck and feel free to ventilate about it anytime....Hop
  9. I don't know if anyone else saw these or not? They have a Klipsch label, but the horn slots and the side of the cabinet look like they were cut by a "druken sailor"...wow! And a JBL style grill???? http://cgi.ebay.com/HERESY-LOUDSPEAKER-SYSTEMS_W0QQitemZ330038355944QQihZ014QQcategoryZ50597QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. So Michael...did we help clarify "how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes"? []
  11. Thanks for the reassurances <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Bryan! I was hoping I hadn't made a mistake since the deal really looked to good to be true ($300 savings that I can put towards their $2k Transporter). I'm really happy to report most, if not all, of the Squeezebox's stuttering went away about 24 hours after I stopped copying files onto the server. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Since the package came with two units, I hooked one Squeezebox up to my tube amp with CWIII's and the other one to my SS AV receiver with RC-7/RF-7's/KG1.0's. Playback sounds great on both systems and I'm continuing to hear new detail on just about every track I play (tonight it was the Doors Waiting for the Sun)also tighter and more defined bass that hadnt been there before (No more bloat on Band of Gypsies!!!). I can also sync playback up between the two units and really pound the house...[<)] Some of the Internet Radio files available from Slimserver are MP3 files...first time I'd really listened to an MP3 file...Bass was kinda funky and lots of smeary stuff...[W] It didnt sound good on Klipsch and I don't think I really want to deal with compressed files. Does anyone know if you can buy and download redbook quality CD files on line or is that a bit too voodoo yet?. Also, does anyone have any tips or software suggestions to add "tags" to my uncompressed wav files so I can organize them? After polling folks here, I initially ripped all of my CD's with EAC as uncompressed wav files so I'd have "exact" copies of my cds just to get the task completed and decided Id sort out the tagging issue later. Well, later is here and any help is appreciated! Anyhow, after playing with the unit for 3 days now, I'm willing to take a step out on a limb and say it eliminates my need to buy another CD player...[]
  12. Thanks for the tips! I'm was wondering about uping the RAM in this unit...I also noticed that touching moving the squeezebox's adaptor cord stops the choppiness. The problem is in the box that's the furthest from my router, which made me think about signal strength or blockage? I'm planning on digging thru their user's forum later tonight and seeing what else I can learn there. I'm also going to hook-up the optical out to my HT receiver when I get a chance to see how well that works...
  13. So like my dream would be for CWIII's to outsell the Pro Media line....its' exciting to see folks buying them[H]
  14. Yahoo! CWIII's rock!!! I auditioned mine for a friend last weekend...Mozart horn concerto popped up on a random shuffle and he started crying because it was his favorite piece of music (he's a tuba player/drummer) and hadn't ever heard it so clearly...[<)] Welcome to the forum...Check-out some Smashing Pumpkins or Zeppelin...[]
  15. I don't know about the virus scanning software. I've got a network administrator-type friend who's pretty anxious to come over and check the unit out. I'll ask him if he has any idea. I'm noticing that receiving wireless wav files can be a bit choppy at times and need to sort out a more central router area for more even coverage... What I'm really happy about is no more piles of CD's or having to run a PC to play my audio files...[]
  16. So I bit another bullet and purchased the Slimdevices/Infrant special to finish off my digital audio server project. I ordered it last Wednesday and it was here by Thursday!!! I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to set-up for someone like me with very little network server experience. Gave me about 750GB of network storage and 2 wireless Squeezeboxes to access my CD collection that I'd spent a week ripping with EAC as non-compressed wav files awhile back at both my HT and Hifi systems...also wireless access for document and photo storage to boot...[8-|] Here's the link for the special deal for anyone interested. http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_infrant.html
  17. I must have been asleep...when did the Klipsch of Russia forums open up? Is it a separate division of Klipsch?
  18. Hey gang -- Thanks for the "overview" of all the concern about "upgrading" crossovers! I was just tuning out all the crossover stuff, but with this intro I finally got a framework...[8-|] Does anyone know of any other "crossover 101" threads?
  19. Thanks for the warning about shooting voice coils! If I keep it from lighting the clipping lights I should be ok or is that a false assumption? Also, is QSC a big name in pro audio?
  20. Wow...this baby weighs a lot...I hooked it up and it works! I plugged a mini-disc recorder into it and the KG 3's really sound much clearer and solid, compared to the Carver I was using. It puts out a good bit of warm air from the front vents...with the heat from the back vents on my recording computer, its' going to toasty... I couldn't find the owner's manual on the web, but did find the technical manual from JBL's site for free ( it was for sale elsewhere...). If I'm reading the specs. right, this unit would be great and meets the Klipsch requirement for low distortion at low power levels.
  21. Thanks Colter, that's the one. My AV guy told me it works and has 30-day guaranteed on all the used equipment he sells, so it sounds like I got a great deal based on the what its going for on Ebay. Hopefully its a decent studio power amp.
  22. I just bought a JBL/UREI SR6630 power amp for $75 to use in my little recording studio to drive by KG 3's on a whim. I googled it and learned it puts out 300wpc/4ohms and switching power supply. Does anyone know anything else about it and how good/bad it is? I thought for $75, I couldn't really go to wrong....
  23. mmm....creamy - dreamy Cornwall III's...like floating in the music on a carpet of warmth... Congratulations!!! I'm listening to mine right now and love the way I can feel the bottom-end thru the floorboards even at low listening-levels...
