  1. Here's a dumb question. I am starting to get into music a little more now that I have a good RF-7 setup. However, I think I need a lesson in what kind of CD's to buy. I like older music, like Ray Charles. I bought the movie soundtrack, and it sounds terrible. It sounds as if they have remastered the tracks and beefed up the treble so much that it has an artificial sound, full of hiss. I prefer the original sound, as if I had an old tube amplifier and original record with a relatively dim sound. Am I the only one who feels that older music on CD's sounds crummy? Or should I be looking for other clues as to how the CD is mastered or something? I'm confused, thanks for all replies..
  2. I would save a little, and go for the Heresey II, or a Heritage type. You will not be happy for long with a mid-price Reference series. I started with the RF-10 and a year later was buying RF-7's. Ther heritage line is the way to go. I have Klipschorns for sale in Italy. Perfect condition, one owner. Know anyone interested? Shameless plug, I know... Good luck.
  3. Has anyone experience using Mcintosh or other brands equipped with muti-voltage transformers? I have some old stuff including two turntables. Do the multi-voltage units sound as good as the regular types? Will the turntable spin at the correct speed, accounting for the different frequency? 60 vs. 50 Hz? Finally, is it possible to have the plugs rewired to the US type? Thanks very much guys....
  4. Thank you all. There must be a third mono amplifier hidden in the cabinet that is not working. It is an inheritance in a far away country that I must figure out what to do with. I'm thinking maybe a Mcintosh MC40 or some other tube monoblock, since the rest of the system is Mac. I will investigate further and check the "Dope from Hope" for more tips. Thanks again....
  5. How is this done with a 2 channel amplifier? I have a vintage system with three speakers and a 2 ch. amp. Last time I listened it, the center "Cornwall" did not work. I assume it did at one time? Thanks much-
  6. What would be the best way to ship Klipschorns from Eurpoe to the US? Should I go with one of the big companies like Fedex, or with a furniture shipper. Has anyone heard of wood-boring beetles that get into wood stuff on ships? Would it be better to sell them there? If so, do they command a good price in Europe. Thank you for your time-
  7. Does anyone here have experience with this 7ch. amplifier and an RF-7 based speaker setup? I am so tempted to buy this amp, but I'm not sure that the Mac circuitry which senses impedance load will work with these speakers. Mac quotes 8 or 4 ohm manual setting, but circuitry will identify actual load and downshift accordingly. Sunfire, according to the Mac dealer has the specs, but at higher distortion. He wasn't sure about what the Mac would do with impedance loads between 8 or 4, or less than 4 which I've heard the RF-7 can produce. Thanks in advance- Gopher.
  8. I just added Richard Gray's 1200C power conditioner/stablizer to my pioneer elite 52tx which runs my RF-7's. The difference is absolutly stunning. Beyond words I tell you. For 2K I think it may be worth it. Start your upgrading there.
  9. I just had a $150 estimate to repair the finish of my lovely RC-7 center channel. I left a vinyl wallet size thing on top of the speaker coupled witht the heat from the amplifier above, well it marred the lacquer. Took it to an experienced refinisher and he said it basically was a crap finish to begin with and at first thought it was a photographic laminate. Upon further inspection he said it is probably is an extremely thin Birch veneer with a cherry stain. Is this true? I'm really dissapointed with what I thought was a pretty nice speaker. Live and learn I guess?
  10. Trying to figure out which wood is this. I've looked at most of the pics on the site here, and can't find a match. Though I guess it differs much within the same wood type. I don't have access to the serial #'s for a while. Thank you
  11. You ask if I have the mate to the "Cornwall". No. I believe this setup was bought as a three-channel setup, with the Cornwall in the middle of the room between the corner horns. Although, the system is wired through an Altec Lansing two-channel equalizer covered in glass to prevent tampering. I am not sure how all three speakers are wired, and if this was a normal setup. Anyone have a three-channel stereo system?
  12. I have inherited a WK system circa 1972. It is powered by solid-state Mcintosh. The sound is unbelivable. I haven't heard anything like it before. Please identify this center channel speaker. Is it a subwoofer, or regular speaker like the corner horns. The grille cloth came out strange in the photo, it is in perfect shape. The corners have original type AA crossover, and are a little dusty! Have a nice weekend- regards, Gopher.
