  1. HEY, Putting the center together now..The new K-52 Mid has no pos/neg marking but does have a slash by one terminal....looks like a minus, BUT does that indicate negative terminal or is it marking the positive??Anyone, QUICK!!, i'm putting it together right now. Thanks, Billy
  2. Ya, you got the ones off EBAY for 90 or so bucks, right. I wanted them but blew it. So I had the luck to buy the parts from Klipsch for $440, but I'm happy. In fact, I'm waitin' for paint to dry right now on the new box.
  3. So, if I have the center set to small and nothing below 80hz is going to it, I should be ok, at least until I can work in the correct size box?
  4. Well, I'll let ya know cuz for now that is the size. Maybe later can I build one the correct size but for now this is it. I'll let ya know if it works. I suspect it's gonna be fine for now. I set my center to small anyway. Should I go ahead and put the 2 ports in?
  5. I'm using new KLF 20 drivers and crossover, (2) 10" woofers, the K-77-K Tweeter and K 52/K 703 Horn. A stock 20 is about 40.75" x 12" x 16" deep. It also has (2) rear ports.
  6. OK, there may be a problem with the size, the largest I can go is 33" wide x 12" high x 10" deep. This is the size. Too small perhaps but this is the size for now. Maybe bigger later. Does anyone see any major problems with that for the time being?
  7. Ok, Wifey says FedEx delivered the stuff......"a few small parts, ehh....the delivery guy could hardley carry it in....."(Wifey sed) anyway, now its box time Billy
  8. very helpful indeed. nice thread guys. thanks
  9. So, in short, what is the recommendation, if you were only gonna do it once: speaker laying on its side, woofers on either end, mid/tweet in the middle, horn orientation is....................................?
  10. I don't have a whining noise with the NADs, but I may produce a whining noise because of the NADs........you see, I'm getting a vasectomy next Friday. No crap, I am!!! Peace Out
  11. I think Red already has the drivers, but I can tell you that 2 woofers, midrange and horn, tweeter and stock crossovers are $440 shipped. That was for KLF 20 woofers, so the 30s might be a little more. Also, Klipsch told me that I got the VERY LAST K 703 horn available. Something to think about if starting from scratch like I did. Billy
  12. in the immortal words of, umm, that dude that overtook Bahboo and company and crashed the plane headed for the White House...........LET'S ROLL!!!!!!!!! Actually, that last post turned the plane back towards Cincinatti. Now is Who saying the horns should be positioned like a stock speaker when laying down and not how yours is, like the C7 is I guess? That does make you wonder why they did the C7 like that. MAybe WHo knows what he's talking about. And lest I forget, hey Doc, is Cindy Lou your little sister? Billy
  13. You old guys are so funny in that you get possesive about threads and their topics... You young guys take stuff so seriously!!! That was old guy humor I was using. Heck, I can't believe a thread I started is up to 3 pages. Post on, young and old alike!!
  14. Is this Flight 1143 and is it on it's way to Cuba instead of Cincinatti?
  15. Scooterdog, How does you parts list read on that fine speaker?
  16. I have not bought anything from Frawley.....yet. He stocks Heresys and has Khorns set up for demo. He's a good guy, a little eccentric and his shop is a mess but he knows his speakers. He had several pair of CF 2s the last time I was in there and they were sweet @ $650 a pair. glad we're getting rain finally, it's gonna hurt business but my yard's lovin' it. Billy
  17. I was using a KV 4 up until 4 or 5 months ago with my KLF 30s along with a hodge-podge of surround speakers. I thought it was the best sounding system in the world and it was the best sounding system in MY world. I found a C7 down in Georgia and changed out the KV 4 and I definitely thought it sounded better, however in the course of a month I started making wholesale changes to the system, like adding a new B & K Ref 200.7/Ref 50, KLF-20s for side surrounds and RB-35 for rear surrounds so I never really had a chance to hear the difference JUST the center change made. I will tell you though, IMO the KV4 is NOT as bad of a match as you would think. I'm sure there are those that would consider that statement blasphmey, but the KV4 is one heck of a powerful center. Not that it matters, but the horn (not the motor) is the same as the midrange horn in the KLF 20/30 (K-703). ANyway, I still have my KV 4 set aside for I don't know what, but it is a really good speaker, just not a "perfect" match to the Legends. I am in the process of building a KLF 20 center, the I will move my C7 to the rear center for an all Legend set up. I will end up getting another C7 so I can go 7.1 after this is complete. Maybe I will sell the KV 4 to fund it. If you had the chance to sell the KV 4, do it and get a C7. I would think the KV 4 would be easy to unload as they seem to be somewhat rare. Billy
  18. Thanks Redtop, that's the route I'm gonna take.
  19. Willie, HTH are ya? Hey, I saw George Hamilton on a Dell HDTV commercial last week. I L'd MAO. Billy
  20. especially with the glue they were using[]
  21. ....an extra pair of 20's!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but seriously, thanks for the help and support so far. I didn't think about the ports, I guess I can get them from Klipsch too. If I'm going to run the center small, would the ports (bass) matter that much? And what about the port positioning? Also, I've got 2 left hands, and I'm right handed so My box is gonna look like craP! Any suggestions on buying a box? Thanks, Billy Great Center you got there, btw
  22. Ok, let the games begin. I have coming to my door raw drivers and stock crossover for a KLF 20. Tweeter assembly, midrange and midrange horn and 2 woofers. Now I need an enclosure. A stock 20 enclosure is not going to work due to size. The box can only be 43 inches "wide" and 16" deep due to the fact that I will be putting under my TV in/on the stand. Now, I can make a box. It would be a strong box, very sturdy and free from rattles and buzzing. It would be built like a tank. It would work perfectly. It also would be ugly as all hell. Is there a source for generic speaker boxes built to custom size? Otherwise, Bruto will get to hacking on some 3/4" plywood. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think I'm going to really like this center, even if my system will be comprised of crappy ole' Legends ;-) Billy
  23. How about a KLF 20 center? would there be that much of a difference or would it be best to just go with a 30? A 20 would be moe bettah due to the size but if I'm going to do this I don't want to be kicking myself in the arse later.
