  1. Based on your signature of your equipment, I would recommend a minimum of a dedicated 20A breaker feeding your amps. If you don't have enough power feeding your amps may explain a 300 watt amp with no balls.
  2. Notice that the amp is rated for 100VAC not 120VAC (US/Canada standard voltage).
  3. I have my RF-7's upstairs on my HT system, however I brought my Dynaco ST-70's upstairs and hooked them up to the RF-7's and was amazed on how smooth the sound that came from them. I would think that the ultimate would be to power the low end with a SS amp and power the high end with a tube amp since the RF-7's bass comes alive with alot of power.
  4. Here is a used pair of RS-62's in the garage sale section if your interested: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/118706.aspx?PageIndex=2
  5. I also have a seperate 2 channel system, you will be very pleased with the Pioneer Elite HT. The only tweaking to the receiver after running the MCACC calibration is to manually set my center and surrounds to small, the MCACC set all of them to large. One thing to keep in mind when doing the calibration is to keep the external noise to a minimum. Things like people talking, appliances running, dog barking, etc. I also calibrated mine with the windows closed since I like it loud and didn't want to piss off the neighbors. With efficient Klipsch speakers I was supprised on how much the MCACC calibration attenuated the speakers, this isn't a problem since my HT can still play at near concert volume levels.
  6. Roger, I am driving my Klipsch RF-7 HT system with an older Pioneer Elite receiver and I am very pleased with it. The MCACC equilization works wonders, I can turn up the volume without any clipping or distortion, just pure clean power. The MCACC equilization also balances the speakers to my room very well. The only downside is for 2 channel it does not perform as well as it does in HT. My understanding that this is true for many A/V receivers. Are you planning on adding a subwoofer? I originally didn't have a subwoofer and when I added one it put another dimension to the movies.
  7. Budman, It's not clear to me which speakers you are selling, based on the above quote are you selling the K-Horns you recently aquired? What gear are you driving your K-horns with?
  8. Al, I used a "stubby" philips screwdriver to mount my x-overs in and I also used short drywall screws to avoid the screw tip sticking out the back. It's the second one down from the top: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00947139000P?mv=rr
  9. Xman, Thanks for posting the pics for me. By dividing my x-over into 2 sections made it possible for me to mount my x-overs on the sides of the original x-over. I also have the early version of the Forte which used a smaller round cup instead of the rectangular x-over. Al, I replaced my internal wiring which I made longer so that I could make the connections outside the speaker through the passive radiator hole which made the wiring easier.
  10. Nice work Al! I re-done my Forte crossovers keeping the "stock" design, however I decided to wire mine for bi-amping. Here is a link on how I mounted my crossovers: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94027
  11. Back in 1986 the Forte's were listed at $1,100 for the pair. I can't comment about the out the door price since I bought mine used several years ago. Keep in mind I am refering to the original Forte's not the Forte II.
  12. Gary, When I recapped my Dynaco ST70 a few years ago I kept the original quad cap in place, electrically disconnected it and installed 4 single caps underneath. Just a suggestion if you don't want the hassle of removing the quad cap. When I replaced the original selenium diode I recall having to install a resisitor in series with the new diode. I don't recall the reason but I believe that the selenium diode had different charactics then the new diode. I recall experiementing with different values of resisitors to obtain the same voltage on the output.
  13. I felt the same when I listen to my vintage tube equipment (1954 Grundig Majestic H-Fi and my Dynaco ST70 tube amp). Enjoy your "new" system!
  14. Ear bleed and a hard kick to the sternum are two entirely different things which take two entirely different approaches. Just trying to give the author of this thread another perspective. Personally I like my kick without the earbleed. Granted my Dynaco can't give the hard kick to the sternum as my 270WPC Pioneer reciever but it can provide some impressive bass none the less. Comparing the two you would never guess that the Dynaco puts out only 35 watts compared to the Pioneer's 270 watts. I plan on bi-amping the Dynaco with my Pioneer to obtain the smooth tube mids and highs with the solid state low end kick.
  15. I can obtain ear-bleeding levels from my Forte's with my 35WPC Dynaco tube amp.
  16. Scott, My Dynaco has a problem with one channel, I've had my Pioneer hooked up for about a year now. This is my basement 2-channel system which I have my Forte's hooked up. My RF-7's are upstairs in my HT setup. When I get around to fixing my Dynaco I will let you know, you can help me carry my RF-7's downstairs. I always wanted to directly compair my RF-7's to the Forte's.
  17. That's about as simple as you can get. I guess that I have been overthinking this for too long, I was thinking I needed to put an active crossover before the amps so they would only amplify the frequencies that are sent to the lows/highs.
  18. Scott, What are you using to split the signal between your receiver and amp? I need to get my Dynaco ST-70 working so I can do the same with my Pioneer SX-1980 receiver except the Pioneer will be driving the bass.
  19. Lance, Congrats on your Emotiva purchase, someday I may upgrade to a XPA-5. Regarding your bug to have multiple RF-7's, just how much bass do you need? With two RSW-15's you have more then enough.
  20. I purchased my RF-7's & RC-7 used, the previous owner had 4 RF-7's and a RC-7. I prefer the sound of 2 RF-7's for the mains and 2 RS-7's for the surrounds for movies. The 4 RF-7's sounded better with music. Using RF-7's as the rears would be a waste of a good speaker unless you listed to 7 CH stereo alot.
  21. You forgot to mention that Mrs. Payne was also attending to your 5 month old son. I did mention this to my wife and she said "you know that would never happen in our house". Your wife is truly a saint. Doobie2 and myself both have to beg and give up a limb to get approval to buy used Klipsch speakers.
  22. I was one of the first 3 (along with JM and doobie2) to audition Damon's new Palladiums. I was very impressed with the attack and detail that these speakers have. As doobie2 mentioned, you can not only hear how the drum stick hit the symbol but can hear if it hit in a different area of the symbol. Besides the sound the fit and finish of these speakers looks like they belong in a musuem. It was a pleasure to meet John, Damon and Damon's family. Doobie2 needs to get his basement finished so I can hear his Cornwall setup. Anyone looking for a great looking set of Cornwall II's should check out Damon's.
  23. Dean, I sent you a PM about upgrading my RC-7 since I already have DeanG x-overs in my RF-7's.
  24. I own a pair of early build Forte's and drive them with a late 70's vintage receiver. I have my speakers angled inward slightly and about 1 foot from the rear wall. I have re-capped my Fortes and noticed a deffinate improvement with the midrange. Before the midrange driver appeared to be a bit harsh, with the crossover re-cap it blends in with the highs and lows perfectly. I also agree with dtel that the Forte is not bass heavy but if the music source calls for some bass with punch the Forte delivers it with authority. I also have never experienced boomy bass with my Fortes. I did notice that I get deeper bass when I drive them with my Pioneer receiver (270wpc) compaired to my Dynaco tube amp (35wpc). Sit back and enjoy your Fortes.

Amy My son told me he was in contact with you about the Chicago gathering but said that Klipsch was unable to attend (I believe that you were also in short supply of headphones). He also kidded with me saying that Klipsch is sending a pair of Klipschorns. Fortunately the custom 3's made it to the Chicago gathering. I was very impressed with them but not being a headphone person I felt uncomfortable with them in my ears. The tips on them were the large ones, I suppose if the small tips were on them that it may not have been as uncomfortable. Those headfi.org people are some serious audiophiles, hopefully one day you can meet them. One of the members at the Chicago gathering is also a Klipsch forum member who also has a pair of Klipschorns. He was the one who brought the custom 3's. Since my son is into audio I thought about attending the pilgrimage with him.
