  2. See my signature for what gear I have. I think I fit your demographic pretty well. [:)]

On my sub it has both a high and a low pass filter. The high pass filter is an either/or 50hz or 100hz. The low pass filter is adjustable from 50hz to 100hz. Generally I have the high pass filter at 100hz and the low pass filter anywhere from 60-75hz. I know on paper this may be a big gap but my sub doesn't seem to have to have too steep of a crossover and blends very very well with the RF-7s.

BTW, I'm using the sub and receiver's pre-ins and -outs via RCA cables.

  3. Some of this may have already been covered, but I'll let you know what I experienced with my RF-7s.

What source are you listening to that causes that harshest sibilance(overemphasized S and Z sounds)? Is it equal with all sources or is it mainly when listening to a CD? I've found that about 75% of my CDs sound very poor at loud levels with RF-7s. However, almost all DVDs, FM radio and TV broadcast sound awesome.

Please don't waste money on expensive speaker cables! I can guarantee that you won't experience any benefit from using them.

Speaker placement is huge with RF-7s. Are they very close to a side wall? How tall is the ceiling in the room they're in? Do you have them toed in so they're facing directly at you in your main listening position? Experiment with them...you'll like the results.

  4. I had been using my cheap (free to me) Magnavox DVD player for CDs since my older Sony 200 disc changer skipped terribly and the Magnavox was noticeably smoother especially in the treble.

I bought a Denon single CD player that's from about '94 just a month ago. I'd say that the sound is very comparable to the Magnavox (very good) but the advantage is that I have a volume control on my Denon. Nice feature since my HK 730 was pre-remote.

  5. Well, I did have my RF-25s set up like that for a few days when I first got them.

The wife is going to be out of town for a week soon...maybe I'll have to do a little experimenting while she's gone! [6]

It would be nice to be able to spread them apart wide and not having nearly any side wall early reflections to deal with.

  6. Everyone has their favorite songs, bands, etc.

How about the CDs you have that have the best recordings? Many of the CDs I've had for years sound terrible on my RF-7s. SSSSSSSSSSSSome of the voice SSSSSSSSSSibalance in many recordings make me wonder if the audio engineers even care what the music they put out sounds like.

A band that I was really impressed with is Guns 'N' Roses, especially Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I + II. The Pink Floyd "Echoes" 2-disc set is also very easy on the ears at loud levels.

  7. Are you stressing over your speakers? Are you anticipating a purchase?

I think if I ever brought some more speakers into my house after buying my RF-7s my wife might never speak to me again.

Not really stressing, just still looking for ways to improve their sound through acoustic room treatments and possible crossover upgrades.

  8. Last night I dreamt that my brother wanted to go to this lady's house that he knew to show me the speakers she had. He said they were Klipschorn's and that she had even built false corners and everything for them.

Of course, my brother knows nothing about Klipsch, false corners, etc but since it was a dream all the characters that I interacted with obviously came from my subconscious. Anyway...we entered her trailer house and she wasn't home. So he walked into the living room and turned the stereo on LOUD! I didn't realize that things could sound so loud in a dream. I walked in the living room and thought to myself those look pretty small to be Klipschorn's, so I looked at the back and sure enough they were Shorthorns, false corners and all! I told him to grab a piece of paper so that I could write down the serial # and do some more research on them.

Just then she came home and wondered what in the world we were doing in her house. My brother talked to her for a little bit and then we left.

  9. I agree with kenratboy. Get yourself a setup disc like AVIA or even the basic THX setup that all Lucasfilm DVDs have and adjust your TVs various settings and you'll enjoy the picture even more.

The best picture is if you can watch something animated like Shrek or Shark Tale.

  10. Does leaving an SS amp on all the time hurt anything other than my house's electric bill?

My system is in my basement which is usually very cold and over the past couple days I left my HK 730 on overnight and after listening to it for a while it seemed to have a warmer, more natural sound. This is also the only time any amount of warmth could be felt on the top of it, even though it wasn't anywhere close to as hot as my Sony receiver used to get.

  11. My office is right next to my living room where my stereo is. Does that count? [:)]

Actually my wife is usually watching TV while I'm on the internet. She hasn't found out about the Denon CD player I got a month ago on eBay. I just found out it has its own volume control via the regular line out jacks! I think she'll actually like that feature since she hates that my old HK 730 doesn't have a remote.

  12. I was looking online at the link to the Klipsch Heresy IIIs that were posted and checked out the other brands/speakers.

    Bostons $2700/pr 90dB

    Polks $3196/pr 88dB

    Phase Technology $2000/pr 92dB

    Heresy III $1500/pr 98dB

I mean, I understand the physics of what makes speakers more efficient, so why don't other companies make theirs that way? At about 2 watts my RF-7s would play as loud as the Polks would at my receiver's maximum output rating!

  13. Here's how they're set up in the pic:

    ------------------------

    | |--------

    | rf7 tv rf7 |---------

    | |---------

    | |stairway

    |

    | me

    |

    | |

    | |

    |

    | bar

    --------- --------

    office

    door

Are you talking about setting them up like this?:

    ------------------------

    | |-----------

    | rf7 |-----------

    | |-----------

    | | stairway

    | tv me

    |

    |

    | rf7 |

    | |

    |

    | bar

    --------- --------

    office

    door

If so, my wife didn't like how they were set up like that when I had my RF-25s. Although, she did say that I could do whatever I wanted with the basement and she was free to decorate/design the rest of the house...[6]

One problem with that is that there's an opening to our stairway going upstairs and to the other side of the basement right behind the 'me' in the 2nd diagram. You can see part of it in this pic:

    http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/685360/PostAttachment.aspx

And from the sitting position in diagram #2 there is a bar to the left of 'me' so I couldn't move the system to that side of the room.
