  1. I have a modern Yamaha A-S701 integrated amplifier for sale. It is in excellent condition, works flawlessly and sounds great. A Google search will find great reviews of this amp. All the modern features plus old school styling. It does have a bit of a laid back top end which works well with the Klipsch speakers I have tried. Two digital inputs, sub out, detachable power cord, nice remote, 100 watts per channel etc. The variable loudness control is a nice feature if you like to tailor your sound. If not, it comes with Pure and CD direct circuitry to bypass all tone controls. It also sports a respectable MM phono section. It comes with the remote and stock power cord. It's a great sounding and well built amp. I’m in Northern California and local pickup is welcome or I am willing to travel a bit. I'm asking $400 plus shipping and I prefer PayPal Friends and Family or ad the 3% fee. Thank You!
  2. Hey Schu, I wasn’t scared, just didn’t feel a need to do so as yet. I do appreciate the pics, thank you. Craig does excellent work! Can you tell me the actual finish of the base? I assume it’s figured walnut but not sure.
  3. Here’s a better picture of the C28.
  4. Picked up a restored McIntosh C28 from a local tech today. He does excellent work and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. This was a one owner piece and has the slant leg cabinet that is in very nice condition. The glass and lettering are virtually flawless. I was hunting for a tube pre-amp but couldn't pass on this classic. So far, I am very impressed with the Mac/VRD combo. This one just might be a keeper?
  5. Hey Schu, I generally listen to them in ultra linear. I’m waiting for my new pair of Heresy III’s to arrive, hopefully this week. I will definitely be doing some experimentation with the VRD’s. Yes, I did get the manual, thanks. Hey jimjimbo, my friend has a large box of vintage 6L6 tube pulls of various types including RCA Black Plates. Hopefully he will get to testing them and find me a good quad.
  6. Thanks Rich, Craig mentioned those and said at one time they were dirt cheap. He did say the secret’s out so to speak.
  7. I picked up a pair of awesome VRD’s not long ago. I worked a trade for a pair of Quicksilver Mini-Mites and ModWright preamp. Having plenty of tubes I had the seller just send some Ruby EL-34’s with them. I will say I am not the biggest fan of EL-34’s for Hi-Fi. I initially used new Mullard KT-88’s which work and sound great. A friend of mine who has thousands of tubes gave me quite a few used Russian 6L6GC’s of various brands to try for S&G’s. He tested them and found a couple strong and fairly well matched pairs. I took an educated guess and biased them at .40. I was very surprised how warm they sounded with great bass and overall detail. Went back and fourth with the 88’s and decided I was liking the sound of the 6L6GC better overall and, hey, new ones are about $100 cheaper per quad! I bought a quad of Tung-Sol 6L6GC’s and couldn’t be happier. In talking with Craig, he said I could run them up to .45 without a problem. They sure generate less heat than the 88’s. This is just my “novice tube guy” experience. I’m sure others use or have tried 6L6’s in their rigs, I would love to hear other members expenses and opinions, thanks.
  8. I would consider separating the two for the right deal.
  9. Me thinks you have posted this in the wrong forum.
  10. I have the "legendary" AR integrated amp and matching tuner I am parting with. I have been sitting on them for some time waiting for the day I will have them restored. Sadly, it's just not going to happen and I am in need of a new pre-amp. The amp is in very good condition cosmetically and it does work. There are some popping and crackling noises when powered on/off but it works. Naturally, it will need some restoration so it is being sold as is.The top plate has a kind of sticky feel to it, possibly the original owner was a smoker? Other than that, it is very clean. No wood case for the amp. The tuner has a wood case but it's not in the best condition. The chassis is actually pretty nice. I get poor FM reception in my house as a rule. The radiant heat shields in my attic play hell with radio reception. That said, it does bring in stronger signals OK. It likely needs alignment as well. It is also being sold as is. I would like to get $400 for both plus shipping from Redding, CA 96002. Local pickup is always welcome and I can be convinced to travel a bit. I do go to the Sacramento and SF Bay Area on occasion. Oh, Southern Oregon as well. I will try to get some good pictures. Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks
  11. Currently, I have a battle scared Yamaha C-80. I say battle scared because it's missing some plastic here and there like the top piece on top of the buttons, the top plate doesn't fit right, has had some work done to it in the past before I had it and needed the balance and parametric EQ pots cleaned. It's not much to look at but works and sounds great, especially the phono section.
  12. I actually had my eye on a Terry Dewick restored Mac MX110 preamp/tuner. Didn’t quite have the scratch before the Heresy gig. Good thing as I was about to rob the grandkids college fund......
  13. Thanks guys, before that phone call I would have not considered them mainly due to cost. The planets just aligned as I recently sold a couple of items and had some toy money which I was going to use for a pre-amp. I guess the pre-amp will have to wait......
  14. There I was, just minding my own business when an old friend of mine gave me a call. He asked if I wanted a new pair H III’s, A stock in walnut finish, for dealer cost? He knows a long time Klipsch dealer who offered them to him. I don’t know the whole story but my friend passed on and offered them to me. Of course I could not refuse the opportunity. So, if all goes as planned, I should have them next week. I have been wanting to at least hear a pair but it hasn’t happened as yet. So, my first opportunity will be to hear my own pair. It’s not that I don’t have experience with Heresy I’s and II’s, I do. I had a pair of decorator I’s about two years ago and really liked them. A friend of mine talked me out of them and uses them in his bedroom system. I can’t wait to hook them up to the VRD’s! I will be sure to post pictures and share my thoughts. Thanks
  15. I have a beautiful pair of consecutive serial number Forte II’s in oiled oak finish. I bought them from the original owner last year. He took excellent care of them as have I. They are completely stock, work flawlessly and sound great! They have a scant few cosmetic issues. There are a few spots on the side of one cabinet but barely noticeable. No pushed in dust caps or chipped veneer on the risers etc. They are for local pick-up in Redding, California which is about 2.5 hours North of Sacramento on I-5. I may be convinced to travel a bit for the right deal. I do have to make a trip to Sacramento in the near future. Asking $550 cash or PayPal F&F. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Pictures to follow, I hope. Thanks
  16. The asking price is firm plus actual shipping, packing and insurance costs. Once again, the wood cabinet will be shipped separately from the chassis. Shipping etc. to the East Coast will likely be around $200 US via FedEx ground. This is based on some similar size items I just shipped to the East. Shipping will be from Redding, CA 96002. I am willing to do some traveling within a reasonable distance. I do go to the Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose and Southern Oregon areas often. Thank you
  17. Thank you Keith. I will have it professionally packed by a local company I have had great success with.......
  18. I am offering the 500c up for sale again. This is due to the pending arrival of a pair of Nosvalves VRD’s. The asking price is still $750 plus packing and shipping. I will include for ribbed long plate Telefunken 12AX7’s that test very strong. I am using them in the pre-amp and phase splitter sockets. The wood cabinet will be boxed and shipped separately. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. It still works and sounds great!
  19. It came down to other priorities but I worked it out, for now.
