  1. John Warren, Thanks for the cool photos. turbobusa65, Steve's latest version of his Imperial is wild! Did you see his horn loaded sub he built using his basement walls. His site has some cool stuff and he makes some nice audio.
  2. Bill W, What's the name and address of your restaurant and next time I'm in Sedona I'll stop in for some good food and music?
  3. I own a pair of Chorus II speakers and use to own a pair of Forte II and had them in the same room together. I turned a good friend on to my Forte II so he could enjoy them. I love these speakers. They both are amazing. They sound a lot alike with the Chorus II having bigger sounding bass because of its bigger woofer. I read here on the Klipsch forum all the time how much people love the Cornwall speakers and especially their bass. I've never heard a set of Cornwalls. I find it extremely fascinating how much bass everyone says the Cornwalls put out with their horn designed woofer being used as a direct radiating driver. I find that to be all so very cool! I can't wait to hear a set someday. Mr.PWK was a genius!!! I'd really enjoy hearing how the Cornwall bass compares to the Chorus bass.
  4. Forum member Bob Crites. Known here as BEC. Bob should be able to help you out. Contact him. He can sell you new replacement diaphragms or replace them for you if you prefer. You should just be able to click right on this BEC link to get to where you can write and send him a message. He sells on eBay too here http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbobcrites
  5. BogusMalone, I run two stereo systems in the same room that share one CD player. I wire up the first stereo system normally. I then run RCA cables from the tape output of the first stereo to the AUX input of the second stereo's preamplifier. This allows me to be able to adjust volume of each stereo system separately because both stereos have their own preamplifier. You can do the same thing with your two complete systems consisting of a surround system and a separate two channel stereo system. Most newer type stereos have to be on for their tape output to be live, so you have to have them on to feed the the second system. Most older stereo system's tape output is hot even with them off, so you don't have to have them on for the second system to operate off them. My first stereo is vintage, so I can just listen to my second stereo without even turning on the first system. If I ran my second stereo system which is a modern one as the first or main stereo system it would have to be on for me to listen to the second one. Sometimes I listen to just one or the other one, but mostly both at the same time. Congratulations on your stereo system that you're receiving which is very nice indeed. You must be very excited. Enjoy. [<)]
  6. That stinks! I called one evening on a Craigslist listing for a set of clean AR303A speakers. The seller told me to call him again first thing in the morning to set it up which I did. He then informed me they were already gone. I have a friend who buys items local and sales them on eBay. He said Craigslist is a very hard way to get items. He said that he'll set it up and get to their houses early and there will already be others there before him. Definitely a first to get there with money in hand deal.
  7. oldbuckster, That's what I did. It was Buy It Now for $75, so I hit the Buy It Now and bought it for the $75. "I did just buy a eBay mint Marantz 2100 tuner for $75 with the Buy It Now option which for me was a decent enough deal," Sorry for the confusion. It would have been clearer if I'd wrote, "buying it by using the Buy It Now option." I agree with you that using the Buy It Now option is about the only way to get a good deal on eBay anymore. I buy all my new and most of my used audio local, but I'll buy off eBay when it's vintage mint audio at a decent price that I can't find local. I've been fortunate to had many good experiences buying off eBay items I can't find local.
  8. A shame you missed out on the Craigslist McIntosh MC275 deal. You have to call on those good Craigslist deals as soon as they come up because people watch it so well. Like oldbuckster states, it's hard to get a good deal on eBay anymore too because so many buyers now. I did just buy a eBay mint Marantz 2100 tuner for $75 with the Buy It Now option which for me was a decent enough deal, but it seems the days of great eBay deals are gone.
  9. Dust cap needs to be on to keep dust from getting in between the voice coil and magnet voice coil gap. Make sure you don't run the razor blade in deep while cutting the dust cap off or you may cut the voice coil. If the voice coil has become open, I know of no way of repairing it unless you get lucky and the voice coil wire broke were it connects to the connector which sometimes can be repaired by soldering back on. If it's broken within the coil itself, it's a small wire with a coating and it seems to me that trying to solder it will melt the coating over the voice coil wire and cause a short. Normally the coil has an open in it that can't be repaired because of this. That sound is probably broken wire rattling around. One of those, dang it sounds. I've had some drivers start making a metal rattling sound while operating. That's usually the voice coil slapping the magnet voice coil gap. Another one of those dang it noises. It's usually the spider has become stretched or torn and the driver has then become off centered, or can be the coil has come lose itself. If you really get lucky and it's just the spider and coil have come apart and your glue repair has possibilities, I wonder if Super glue would work. I've repaired lots of stuff with it! You're probably due for a new driver though unless there's a rebuild kit for that driver. I've been there and I feel your pain. Good luck.
  10. Q-Man, I've read on the Internet that others who have compared the Imperials to Klipschorns agree with your findings. I've never heard a pair of Imperials myself, but sure would like to. Maybe I'll get lucky someday and come up on a pair. Love to hear a set of those Klipschorn Jubilee speakers too. For now my front Klipschorns and rear Chorus II plus two huge subs are keeping me in audio bliss. Like you, I like to be surrounded in sound. I don't run mine in surround mode effects though. Stereo front and rear. I've been hooked on two sets of speakers since I heard my brother's four AR11 speakers years ago. I still enjoy one stereo set, but for me a second set can sweeten it up a bit. My system is two stereo systems running off one source. Sometimes I'll just listen to the front stereo system and sometimes just the rear one, but mostly both at once and then wow... Nothing has to be run hard to fill the room so it sounds really good with very low distortion. I figured you'd understand me with the system you have. Do you have a photo of your Imperials next to a set of your Klipschorns you can post so I can see their size comparison? You feel the Imperials sound better than Klipschorns in all aspects?
  11. I understand. They sounded like crap to you. I thought the cabinets had value, but maybe not. They're big cabinets and it wasn't worth it to you to keep them around or try to mess with selling. I thought since they were factory built that they would be built solid. For me, it would have just been fun messing with those huge rear horn loaded cabinets to see what I could get them to do. I've thought about building some, but I'm satisfied with my Khorns. Don't feel bad about getting rid of them. I just wanted to give you a little hard time on it and you were a good sport about it. Thank you. I wish I still had my tube stuff from 1978 that I thought was outdated by SS, but we can't keep everything.
  12. HarryO, You disassembled / trashed a factory built pair of Jensen Imperial cabinets that were in Very nice condition that you listened to for less than an hour? [:^)] I understand you bought them just for speaker resell and that you didn't like the way they sounded with those speakers anyway, but why not keep the cabinets and try some different drivers? Those would have been some fun cabinets to mess around with.
  13. Wouldn't just a light layer of regular Elmer's white glue work? Put the glue on your finger tip and rub it on to the back of the label covering it completely. Press label on with folded dry kitchen towel for complete flat adhesive stick down. Try your best not get any glue on the front of the labels by getting glue on the towel and rubbing on the labels. Wipe off excess glue from edges of label but not touching the label itself with a slightly damp hand towel. Mess with as less as possible. Allow to dry. I use spray adhesive with labels. I spray it on the back of the labels with them up side down on a sheet of paper. Your label is still connected by a staple to cabinet which can make the spray adhesive situation a bit messy. I've done this by spraying the spray adhesive on my finger tip and rubbing it on the rear of labels that were partly coming off and pressed them back on and done OK. Just don't put too much spray adhesive on the label or it gets messy. Make sure you cover label completely to edges or the edges will flare out and get torn at some point. Just my two cents worth. Others may know a better way.
  14. Thank you for sharing. God speaks. We just need to listen.
  15. I'll second the 2200 series Marantz! A 2285B would be nice.
  16. You got them free. It would be worth putting some money in them to get them back to sounding good. Give them a coat of paint to make them look better. Satin black would look good. Bob Crites is a forum member here and an eBay seller who sales items for rebuilding Klipschorns and other Klipsch speakers. He'll have everything you'll need. I rebuilt my Klipschorns which were like yours. I used Bob's components and it worked out great. He'll even rebuild your tweeters and mid drivers for a small cost. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbobcrites
  17. That's a wonderful picture Amy. Merry Christmas to everyone.
