  1. A1UC, Did you make those or purchase them? They look awesome...
  2. I've never thought of that. I didn't want to increase the bulk that much but maybe a 1/2 or 1/4 inch ply all around might be an option.
  3. I finally purchased an Academy to match my Chorus II's and I couldnt be happier. Anyhow, ive had my C2's for 20 years and they are getting long in the tooth. I have been contemplating building new cabinets from either bamboo or palm plywood, has anybody on here heard of anybody doing such a thing? Any opinions woild be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance
  4. Are there any ramifications of using 4 center speakers for your side and rear surround speakers. I was looking at using 4 rcx-4 to use as my surrounds. I know they wont be a perfect match sonically with my front and current center but I have very limited space and these are about as big as I can fit.
  5. Most likely I will just repair the tear, as I don't really notice a difference since the tear. As far as the crossovers go does anyone know how much Mr Crites replacement croosovers go for? I have only seen the Herseys on ebay as well as the AA's. I ask about the mids and tweeters only for a "good to know" factor for possible future DIY surrounds.
  6. The tear is about an inch from the edge and a little on the edge itself. I saw a radiator on Partsexpress, I wonder if it would work, I cant see a reason that it wouldn't.
  7. I would like to start with the radiator, due to the cat holes. I've since found ,I think, that the Kappa LFA 15 has similar ranges so I guess that would work. I would also like to know what what would work for the mids (k-61) and the tweeter (k-79) that is more for possibley building custom DIY surrounds.
  8. I currently have a pair of Chorus II's that I've had for 15 years, I have been toying with the idea of upgrading the components. Not for any particular reason except I have travelled across the world with them and my cat thought them to be excellent scratching posts, even the radiator. So I know from reading that Mr Crites produces excellent crossovers, but what drivers are comparable or better, and where could one purchase said drivers and radiator? I've read that eminance made most of them but what are the comparable models if any? Another reason for this question is the insane idea of creating a sort of Frankenklipsch speaker. Same interior dimension just different on the outside. Any help or guidance would be appreciated, except the advice of "DONT DO IT !!!" I already get that from the Mrs Thanks in advance.
  9. Sony still makes them, they hold 400 cd's or DVD's. They are about 3-400 bucks, I am also thinking of getting one. They get pretty good reviews so I would look into that. The people who don't like them complain about features or lack there of but for $400 Vs sveral grand for the hard drive based players I can live with it. Good Luck
  10. I have to say that I have never walked out of a movie until recently and that was for Miami Vice. What a load of celuoid crap, I can usually enjoy, or at least find something mildly entertaining, almost all movies, but this was just god awful. Albeit that I didn't stay fro the whole movie so it might have gotten better. Just to give an example of how bad it was the following line was actually used: "If you can't do the time, don't mess with crime" Another movie that I rented and couldn't finish was Hoodwinked great actors/voices but horrible story.
  11. What Dr who mentioned about having a dark room was on spot, at least in my experience. I had tile floors and my system sounded very bright and too reflective. Hurrricane Wilma forced a total remodel of my home and I chose to put in hardwood floors and replaced the roof and ceiling in my living room with exposed cedar beams and a pine tongue and groove. Since then its like I have a whole new HT setup. It's very warm yet maintains a sense of clarity and accuracy and the harshness is absent. I would bet that no matter what brand is chosen it will truly come down to the listening environment. I would venture to say that most people have not listened to many different brands in the exact same set up ie. same room, same speakers, same set up. Personally at this price point, which is where I'm at, I think options and features are more important. Anyhow, that is just my opinion. Dave C
  12. Here is the answer directly from Yamaha's website What is the difference between the RX-V line and the HTR line AV receivers ? There are many similarities between these two product lines. The RX-V line and the HTR line are produced in the same Yamaha factory using the same high quality parts throughout. The RX-V and equivalent HTR models have the same warranty periods; the same manufacturers suggested retail price, the same features, and the same remote control units. There is a cosmetic difference found on the front panels of these two lines. The RX-V line maintains the traditional white colored lettering normally found on most Yamaha components, while the HTR line provides a slightly different approach. Yamaha has created a new look by using gold colored lettering in selected areas on the HTR receiver series. However, both the RX-V line and the HTR line feature the same high quality black metal front panel construction. The amplifiers in the HTR and RX-V units are identical but rated differently to comply with the accepted measurement standards of their respective channels of distribution. Both ratings are FTC approved and are designed to handle the dynamics of today's audio and video sources. The RX-V line has the power amplifiers rated from 20-20000 Hz. The HTR line has the power amplifiers rated at 1000 Hz. Both lines can reproduce the full frequency response of 20-20000 Hz. The RX-V line is typically sold through Yamaha authorized audio/video specialty retailers, and is not available for mail order sales. The HTR line is sold through mass merchants, catalog retailers, and department stores. You may also purchase the HTR line through the mail. All transactions must be done through the authorized Yamaha dealer network. Any purchase made from an unauthorized dealer/retailer voids the Yamaha manufacturer's warranty. 13. You could be right, from what I've read though when I bought mine was that they are the same and that the ratings although different on paper are actually the same. From what I understood it was just part of the marketing or something (see link below). I might be wrong on which RXV number it was. Also I think the RXV series has higher end stuff where as the HTR stops at the 5980 and now the 5990. I am definetly not an expert on the subject but I did alot of research and was adding my two cents, and by the way am very happy with my choice. I still stand by what I said in that he should listen to several brands and choose what he likes best. Here is another forum post that kind of says what I was trying to: http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/133305.html
  14. I happen to be a long time yamaha fan I have owned a couple and have found them to sound great. As far as the diff between HTR and RXV, same machines different badge. The HTR series was made for the big bix stores. The HTR5980 is the same as the RXV1500 so unless you care about asthetics save the money and get the HTR. But the best thing to do is listen to a couple of brands and choose for yourself. Good Luck Dave C
  15. I don't know if this is the right forum but I think it is. My question is what is the best way to wire outdoor speakers? I have them hanging under the eaves and I have in wall speaker wire running directly to them via banana plugs. I dont want them to get too corroded seeing as how I live near the beach in S FL. Thanks, Dave C
