  1. the real question is hard hard you were running the sub when it "stopped working". I dont know what sub you are using but if you were running it hard, it might pay to softly push on the centre of the woofers cone, and listen for a toasted voice coil, ie: crunch crunch!
  2. thanks for the replys guys! Ill quickly go and check out thoe sites now! ......................dont they have nasal spray now? lol. Regards, Brendan
  3. Hi all, At the moment i am having a difficult time finding out how to make a Low pass filter for my subwoofers. I know i have seem the equation in a book somewhere that tells you how much inductance you need, but I cant seem to find it. I was looking at a set 60hz pass to place in the signal stage, before the amplifier. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my subs are arriving soon and if I dont have the Low pass ready, I will be stuck with a 150hz low pass! Thanks in advance!!
  4. if your interested in taking a look at a diy suboofer and the kind of numbers that a basic diy subwoofer can output it might be worth taking a peak at my old diy subwoofer here http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/841692.aspx sure the big boy did blow up but only due to me being a tad bit to excitable with the volume knob! But all the money and effort put into making the sub was not wasted as i am now using the experience to make a much better subwoofer system.
  5. now I know that the reference speakers woofers have more throw than that!
  6. I would go crazy if I had to tip people all day every day. here in australia there is no such thing as tipping just good set wages!
  7. my god thats my dream set up right there! I think the RF-7's and RSW-15's both look so much better than there replacements.
  8. Tool, Killswitch Engage, Korn (my favorite) are all good IMO. Whenever I get a new subwoofer for my soundsystem I always seem to get dragged back into the trance/dance/house things with all the real deep loud bass. Then when I get sick of that (or blow up the sub =] ) or get a speaker upgrade I go straight back to Korn etc. I have very varied and messed up music tastes =p
  9. in this context......yes..lol
  10. my god that is a HUGE enclosure. I love audio companies that don't just follow the typical "lets compromise performance, by cutting on box size so we can maximise profit" line of thought. If there was no audio companies like TC people like me would have no aims to shoot for. That things must be capable of some real bass. Jay do you know approximately what it would be capable of? you seen to be very well in touch with your inner TC []
  11. Lol damping under the spider eh? lol it's always good to know that your money goes towards quality [] 60hz in a car is pretty much ideal for a car as under around 60hz in most cars you get a 12db each octave you drop in frequency. In a room on the other hand a 60hz cut off sub would sound very very nasty (even for someone like me that isn't very picky) the 28hz tune for the FUSION was pretty high for my room! I defiantly believe that the kicker would destroy in a car tuned like that! Car audio is very, very fun because alot of people get into it, spend lots of money but don't have any know how at all (except for brands) like how my friend has 2 10" subs in his car in a properly tuned enclosure, that crushes other peoples bass systems that cost a lot more and use a lot more surface area. There is even a cr with 2 15" subs that drives around town (Holden wagon) that cannot stand up to his 2 10"s......namely because the 2 15"s are mounted in huge leaky sealed box. I also want ahead and emailed the car audio company that sold me the sub. I may yet get a refund/replacement. Any one got any technical issues that I can bring up in an email to help fight my case against mis guiding power handling figures? I'm sure im not the only one sick of subwoofers using 2.5" to 3" VC's and claiming mind numbing power figures that are just not possible.
  12. lol yeh the volume control is probably the part i really gotta look out for! And cheapo fusion or not, when this things was in a box tuned to 28hz (quite high!) and getting that much power, it hammered very hard. No matter what brand name, big surface area and excursion capabilities = more bass!
  13. My old man has planted the idea in my head that I get the FUSION subwoofer reconed and replace the voice coil (apparently this only costs about 1/3 of the value of the sub) becasue when it was working it hammered really well......just had some reliability isues! If I do get it reconed I think I might put it back in a sealed box or port the box I have now to a lower frequency to protect the cone more. Then I could wire it in series (8ohm load) and put the 30hz filter back in place. With all these safty measures I reckon the sub might just hold out. (especially if I go abit easier on the volume)
  14. lol yep.....especially with me!
  15. sealed with 120db at 20hz? that is strange.......sure an audio company can engineer to get better results, but that's almost by by-passing physics!
  16. H/K and klipsch sound very good together. I have similar main speakers as you ( basically the older version of your two front towers, the RF-15's) and use a HK3480 for 2 channel listening. hey sounds good to me! You will also learn that watts per channel mean less and less as you research more and more. different companies use different rating systems at different frequencies, different distortion points, different time periods (like how some car audio amplifiers are tested in tiny time intervals for the max power rating.....if you played at that power for 30seconds the amp would probably melt!) and alot of companies distort the truth alot! HK apparently rate their amplifiers very sensibly compared to a lot of brands, and I believe you can actually believe the WRMS power output a HK amp claims......you may find that 100W from a HK amp is more than 200W from another company. (but dont worry just remember every time you double amplifier power you only get a theoretical 3db rise....so the difference between a 500W amp and a 1000W amp is a measly 3db!)
  17. yeh I have got a kenwood headunit on layby for my car (I dont car much for expensive bling-bling headunits) and am going to get response kevlar pulp 6" splits, response four channel amp, response subwoofer amp, and for the subwoofer system either the JL audio W6 12", Adire audio brahma (15") or I have been thinking about getting 2 carbon fibre response 12" subs (my mate has two of the 10's in his car in a ported enclosure.....these things crank) All the things on the list above will probably be different tomorrow [:S]
  18. yeh all the TC drivers have awsome excursion limits......It would be pretty funny to see a 8inch driver perform a full 2inch P-P sweep! I am also starting to seriously consider using JL audio for bass in my new first car also (namely the W6 serious....my supermarket wages prevent me from affording the W7 series) they look like they are very well built.......and as luck would have it adire audio hasnt replied to any of my three emails! how am I supposed to buy from them if I dont know the prices?!?!
  19. maybe since the problem begins a little after its turned on it might might be a problem with a driver (once the coil is warmed up it might start doing funny things) I had a centre channel once that would play fine for the first say 30seconds, then when the coil heated up it would play up really bad (make funny sounds........didnt moan though [:S])
  20. that's probably be fine them (especially because you have already demoed one) if you dont want it for accuracy....... sometimes when you get into one of those boom, boom, boom moods you really dont care about any form of SQ, I for one get into these moods sometimes but only for 1 or 2 minutes as I just cant have music up that loud without worrying (the house we live in at the moment has very close by neighbors) The Ear: Your constant talking about JL audio has intrigued me[] I think I might go have a look at some of their subwoofers more carefully now, as I am currently trying to figure out what I am going to use in my first car's audio system (just sanded it down today, am going to paint it tomorrow) as it has a nice sized boot......I want deep loud bass, and it sounds to me that JL subs have alot of excursion to offer (I watched a vid of the W7....very impressive, probably more so in real life) The Doc: I knew you would shoot through [H]!
