  1. These have been sold. Thanks, Randy
  2. I have a pair of the k-33 woofers for sale. These came out of my one owner 2004 Khorns. I have replaced these with the Crites woofers so I would like to move these to someone doing a build project or replacements for an older pair of k-33's that might see a need for newer drivers. Whatever the case, they are for sale and in perfect condition. $ 165.00 for the pair. Shipping and Pay Pal fees will be the responsibility of the buyer. I work in a shipping center so they will be packed very well. Thanks, Randy
  3. jwc, What happen to your Mcintosh speakers ( forgot the model # ) or is this an old pic or maybe another room? Randy
  4. This is what its like at my home ( dedicated man cave music room in my basement which is 9 ft below grade 17 x 22) Khorn bass bins sealed tightly in reinforced corners with Greg Roberts ( Volti Audio ) mid horns with BMS mid drivers, Crites horn tweeters, ALK es crossovers driven by two Mcintosh mc 501's ( 500 per channel ) amps with a good front end that is running through a Mcintosh c 46 pre amp. I've had several other lower rated power amps over the years form Denon to Adcom to Bryston, never close to the performance I have now. Expensive? Yes. Worth it ? Every last penny. Overkill, maybe, but, the headroom and driver control is second to none and without a doubt it is the best I have had performance wise in my home ever. Bottom line for me is lots of quality power offers control, headroom, dynamics, etc. All good. Randy
  5. Congrats, cornwalls are the best bang for the buck performance speaker on the planet.
  6. Rick, Very nice setup. We have one thing in common, I have VTI audio shelving also. I have two 95 lb Mcintosh mono block amps sitting on mine. Very will built audio furniture for the price i paid. I have a man cave in my basement with all my audio toys set up in there, I do really love that room. My wife tells me sometimes I love being in that room more than I love spending time with her which of course Is not true. I tell her at least my hobby is at home, I could be off hunting, fishing, golfing, etc. like a lot of married guys I know do. She really understands my hobby and thats one of the many reasons that I love her so much. Enjoy
  7. I was enjoying some music last night and on the third track my svs pb12/plus which I use for two channel as well as home theater went into a screaming hum to the point my wife came downstairs and thought some thing exploded. I ran over and cut the power. Did some checking to make sure nothing else was wrong which I was sure that the sub was at fault. I have line level rca inputs coming from a Mcintosh preamp to the svs which are also rca connections. When I unhook the connections the unit is dead quite and when I plug them back in the hum is back. I even hooked another rca cable with nothing connected on the other end and the hum was just as bad. This is not some ground issue, if I increase the gain just a tad its very loud. I run the gain about a third of the way or less when listening to music. It sounds like I have the neighborhood power grid in my room at that level. I hope the drivers are not damaged. I took the plate amp out of the unit today and checked everything I new to check, unhooked all connection points and reconnected, check for burnt looking resistors, capacitors, etc. Found nothing wrong that I could see with my eye. Emailed svs and explained everything, they said it sounded like a bad connection block. Check that, it seem fine for what I could see. Thinking about getting my ohm meter out and do some checking, no some basics but thats about it. New plate amp for this unit is $ 250.00 from svs. It may be what I need to do. the sub is 6 years old and has not been used very much. I have got about two years use out of this sub. I checked around the web and did not find anyone having any issues with this model. It has the 900 watt bash class d amp. Any help or advice please, Thanks, Randy
  8. jtubbs, Very nice amp. I have the 501's ( mono amps ). Mcintosh amps are built to last. Enjoy
  9. Jhoak, Are those speakerlab labels on those woofers? If they are, I believe I sold them to you in the last year. I originally bought them from speakerlab in 1980 and used them in a pair of cornwall cabnets I built back then. Those were my main speakers for years and years. I stll have the cabnets I built and used them in stored in my garage. I have built four pair of cornwall cabnets over the years for myself and other audio friends. I have modified khorns now and have sold my other pair of cornwalls I built. My friends still have and use as their main speakers the other two sets I built. I used another pair of the speakerlab woofers in one of the pair my friend has and used k33's in the other two pair. The speakerlab woofers are very good drivers which also handle more input power than the k33's but both are very good drivers for any of the heritage type builds. They were also used in speakerlabs version of the klipschorn. Sometimes I wished I had never sold them but, If these are the ones I had, I am glad to see they are being put to good use. Nice build by the way, I know they must sound very good. Randy
  10. They will get better as time goes by and then you will be thinking, man if these rock like this, I wonder what Cornwalls will do. Let the madness begin. Its all fun and a great musical journey. Enjoy. Randy
  11. Larry, Let me clarify what I said earlier, the Alk universal does seem to shine at lower and mid volumn especially with smooth jazz, folk or less busy music like heavy rock or metal but, they would be in my system if the ES networks were not available. If you can, get yourself a pair of the universals from Al and try them for a couple of weeks. I think he offers this option for someone that wants to try his crossovers. Yes, of course you might have to give him a credit- debit card number for him to hold during the trial period, Ask Al about his payment terms. But, overall, you will like Al's universals over the Klipsch stock networks. Give them a try if you can. I think you will like how they perform. Thanks, Randy
  12. Al, We love ya but, we don't love you that much. Keep those prices where they are. LOL. Randy
  13. Boydfp, I know first hand what you mean when describing the overall improvement when replacing the k-401. I have Greg Roberts fc-260 two inch horns in my 2004 khorns. They completely revoiced my khorns, I did install the BMS two inch drivers which I think as well as others is a huge improvement over the k-55 but if I were staying in the one inch format, I would stay with the k-55, its not a bad driver at all. I had ALK trachorns before with the k-55 and it was much improved over the k-401. Yes, you need to save your pennies for one of Al Klappenberger's crossovers. I have his ES networks in my khorns and will say that it was money well spent. Al is first rate with his technical knowledge and background in filter and crossover design. His networks as well as the 2 inch format mid horn and Bob Crites tweeter made my khorns the best I have heard. Another thing I might add, if you possibly go the complete ES network route, the main advantage to these networks are at higher SPL'S. When I sit down and have a serious listening session, I turn my system up and thats where the ES networks shine. Very smooth and clear from top to bottom, no driver overlap at these levels is an advantage or at least it is at my house. If you stay at mid or lower volumns most of the time, I would go with one of Al's other designs. I have run the ALK universal networks for a time through my khorns and they were very nice at lower or mid listening levels especially nice with smooth jazz music. More upfront and in your face if you will than the ES networks are at lower or mid levels. Just my listening experience and opinion. You want go wrong with any of Al's networks. Thanks, Randy
  14. Got about 5 inches of snow at my house in north central Alabama, still snowing, heat is blowing, beverages are working and Dave Brubeck ( Time Out ) spinning on the table in the man cave. Mcintosh and Klipsch are very good company. Work is called off for today. Life is good. Randy
  15. Greg, Very nice shop. You say that if not married you could live there, I hear ya, I could live in a shop like that too. Very impressive. I could look and study that heating setup for hours just to see how its all put together. Forced heat furnaces down here in the south, they do the job but basic and boring compared to the heating systems up in your part of the world. Thanks for posting the video. Randy
  16. Greg, Like your singing fish on the wall to the left. Got two of those myself. I bet the guy who came up with that made a fortune. Yes, great thinking on placement of that jack. I use one of those at work, they are handy. Oh, and the singing fish, it was funny the first few times you push the button and then it would just get on your nerves. I had one up in my basement, got tired of everyone pushing the button when they walk by. Took the batteries out and tossed them in a box for storage. They might be worth something one day. LOL Randy
  17. The money thing will work out. You have just been blessed in a wonderful way. The birth of my three children was the three most wonderfull experiences I ever had. Congrats to you and your Bride. Randy
  18. Sounds great Richard. Not sure about my wife and those flagstones. We can include her in with the kids and the dog playing. We are planning on coming up to that area late fall, early winter. I live in Birmingham, Al. so most likely on the way home I could stop by there and jam for a couple of hours. As we make our schedule I will run it by the wife and work some time in to come by your home. My wife and kids know how nutty I am about this hobby so Im sure they want mind. I will pm you as we finalize our plans and see what day is best for you and your wife. Thanks very much Richard, I look forward to this more than the trip to the mountains itself. Heck, I may just have them drop me off at your house and tell them to pick me up on their way home. [] Lol Thanks Again, Randy
  19. Richard, You have a very nice place. I love that part of Tennessee. The next time I go to the smokies, Im going to have to take a short detour and here your system. My wife and kids would be with me also. Would not bother you long, just long enough to hear a few tunes and check out your system. Randy
  20. I still have a box of these left over from the mid to late seventies. I dont know why I am keeping them, I guess for the memories. Cruising around in my 1974 Firebird listening to 8-tracks. How about when one started to drag or not make contact with the playback head, get out a piece of folded up paper or cardboard and shimmy that mother. Those were the days. Randy
  21. Glen, Your post hit the nail right on the head. Very good insight and so very true. I myself has never got into the mp3, iphone, etc craze. I have a mancave that does have home theater but, the main use is for two channel. My wife and my kids cant understand how I can sit down there for hours and just listen to music through two front speakers. They get it that I enjoy it, they just cant get the connection of zoning out and just getting involved in the artist that you are listening to. Most of my extended family and friends are the same way. I have one friend that gets it and its hard for he and myself to get together because of work family schedules. Everything nowdays is put the ear buds in or play the mp3 player through your car unit and listen to compressed crap that you got off the internet. Not me. I love my xm radio in my truck and I will play the little garage system when I am in the garage working on something but THERE IS NOTHING MORE ENJOYABLE TO ME THAN CLOSING MYSELF OFF IN MY MANCAVE AND LETTING THE MCINTOSH AND KHORNS PERFORM THERE MAGIC. iT REALLY IS A HIGH FOR ME. I think a few on this forum know what I am trying to express. Randy
  22. Greg, First class, I bet they do sound amazing. Now I will have to save my pennies to by a pair of these. Dont tell my wife, she will flip. I 'll tell her its all Greg's fault. LOL. Randy
  23. Could you blame him? I would need something stronger than alcohol to put up with Manilow. I live in Birmingham, Al. We have got to have the worst radio stations on the planet. We have one rock station that plays the same 25 songs all day and it consist of queen, styx, journey, arosmith, and van halen, etc. All these bands suck. Then of course there is 10 country stations that play that wangen tangen dribble. Thank God for xm radio. Its not perfect but, it beats local radio. I know, I got a little off topic. Play me some blues and some southern rock that is not run in the ground and I will listen all nite. Love Dave Matthews too, his live stuff is best. Randy
  24. Guys, Do yourself a favor and buy Framptons album Fingerprints. It is as picky said an all instrumental album with a mix of rock and blues and is recorded very well. I, like a lot of you was a teenager when Frampton comes alive came out. Still have that original copy on vinyl and yes in my opinion everything he did after that album was nothing to write home about. I was flipping through the channels on the dish a few years back ( voom network which I miss ) and came across him in concert and he was playing tunes from the Fingerprints album and I thought " man, this guy in on to something with these tunes, mix of blues with rock, electric and acoustic selections, very nice. And again, recorded very well, at least it is at my house with Mcintosh driving Khorns ( vtracs, alk es networks, crites tweeter). Sweet sounds Randy
  25. Last night I got home from work and went down to play some tunes on the 2 channel setup, as soon as I turned everything on, I had a very audible hum coming through the khorns. Im thinking this aint good. I went ahead and put a cd in the player and could barely hear the music and it was distorted and the hum was all I could hear and it would increase as I turned the volumn up. Im running very nice Mcintosh preamp and mono power amps with a modified Denon dvd player as my cd player and a ps audio dac. with Richard Gray power conditioners. I unplugged everything including all my interconnects and replugged everything back in and still had the same hum. It would only hum on the cd2 input not any other input. The dac is running through the cd2 input so I started to unpulg all connections from the dac while powered up and the hum reduced a good bit but still there. While the interconnect was disconnected from the dac but still connected to the preamp and still power up, I touch the disconnected end of the interconnects and it would cause a terrible hum. Messed around with it a little longer, disconnecting and reconnecting and the hum mysteriously went away, dead quite. Played some music for a while, dead quite, checked it this morning , dead quite. Any thoughts or advice. Thanks , Randy
