What a steal if they're really in that good a condition. I'd buy them if they were close to home here in Houston. But I see your point. If you really don't have the space and already have KHorns, why buy them unless you want to re-sell them or give them to someone else? Too bad such a good deal came to someone who can't use them. If you don't want the deal, you ought to announce where they can be had, so that somebody else can get lucky.

I was just wondering whether a high-dollar 20w tube amp plays loud enough to shake paintings off walls - like my Crown. It seems if somebody was spending $3k on an amp, it better do that. But seeing as the $3k tube amp is only 20w, can it - or are people pay that kind of money for moderate volume listening?

Look for the member listing, and look up Craig, who goes by NOSValves. If you sort the member listing by number of posts, he'll be near the top. I think he's knowledgeable in this area.

I am just plain curious. The link below is to what should be considered a very nice tube amp with rated output of 18-20 watts. I have a Crown Microtech 1200 SS amp rated at 600 per channel at low resistance. Even at the higher resistance, I am sure its output is way more than 18-20 watts. I turn it up about 1/3, and it rocks. I wonder how many watts I am running at that volume (just a rough guess would do, I think). Bottom line, this tube amp offered for $3000 only puts out 18-20 watts. Will it rock the house like my much cheaper Crown? I thought you had said you had 2 round and that 1 was bad. That's why I was saying get another round. Now that I reread your original post, get another square. J.W. had a good suggestion. BTW, you never said there was anything wrong with the way the speaker performs. If there is not, I'd leave it alone.

I have no idea. I was only suggesting that if it would bug you to have 1 of each, and if the speakers were good when both rounds were functional, then get a matching round. That way, the speakers will sound good and you will not be bugged by having 1 of each. If you let somebody get it in your head that square is better, I bet you get caught up and wind up buying 2 squares to match - paying alot more than you planned for speakers that would have been just fine by replacing only the 1 magnet that you need. Were the speakers good with 2 good round magnets? If you'll be bugged by having 1 of each, get round.

Don't know much about them, but I checked on Audiogon.com to see how much people are asking for Vandersteen 3As. Looks like between $1000 and $2200. I could never see spending that kind of money to re-do a pair of speakers. I think your original issue was a fried mid-range. I'd just replace it with something cheaper (and maybe better or just as good anyway) and go on. The disappointment of the minor issue with your nice speakers should not cloud your mind enough to convince yourself to sink a bunch of money for unneeded extras. Kind of reminds me about taking the old car in to the dealer for new brakes and coming out with a new car and my first note payment in the mail a month later.

Okay, read your lips. $1400 is some serious cack to repair speakers that will not be as good as Klipsch speakers. You could easily get the better Klipsch for $1400 or less. Salvage the junkers and use the money to purchase better Klipsch. Or, if you want to do right and keep them, put a different driver in place of the old one for gobs less. Personally, that's what I would do. As long as the speakers work good and look good, why should you care all that much to let yourself get totally bent over just so you can rest your mind that the drivers were made from the same mfg.? For a mid replacement, I can't see how the price could possibly approach $1400. Sounds criminal to me.

Anyone know of a good, easy-to-use CD Ripper FREEWARE that allows the user to edit tracks? Looking to be able to extract portions of tracks instead of only entire tracks.

Ah! You bought them before my words of caution (to hurry). Good move! $200 for Klipsch w/12" woofers and 2 horns (whatever model they are). Gotta be a steal at that price!
