  1. This used to be conventional thought.
  2. I am a Yes fan, but Close to the Edge doesn't do it for me. I think their best album is Album. Fragile is next. After those 2, there's not a whole lot left. Of course 90125 is in its own sphere. It, too, is a great album.
  3. A guy I knew had a stroke, and he said it is important to comply with therapy 100%, no matter how dumb or monotonous many of the exercises can seem. Good luck, Gil!
  4. Keep good records and pay your taxes. Trying to cheat the tax man simply isn't worth it.
  5. Does anyone recognize a pattern? I think we should just categorize this thread as, "Discussion #2," and rather than hash it out in long form every 2-4 weeks, somebody could just post a thread titled, "Discussion #2." We'd all know in advance where it was headed, so it could be closed before the first reply, and nobody would miss anything.
  6. Other people have tried to explain it to me, and I have read on it. Still, I cannot find that magic thing that says, "Here's the value." What it sounds like is a pyramid scheme. As long as people put their money into it, it has value. That much is true. On the other hand, stocks have constraints based on performance, measured by revenues, growth, margins, free cash flow, etc. Crypto has none of that. For that reason, stocks are something which are much easier to understand. However, even then, I have reservations on the ones which don't pay dividends. Sure, you can read up all about how well a company has performed, but it will pay you nothing, and it will keep paying nothing forever (I realize they can change dividend policy). What is the value of an income stream of $0? Still, people buy them and put their faith in them, giving them value. I just don't know anymore...
  7. What about if the machine freezes, and the only thing you can do is to reboot?
  8. I am intrigued by the RAM drive, but I know little about its stability. I know if you shut off the machine, RAM is toast. I know they must have safety features to prevent data loss, but how vulnerable is a RAM drive to data loss, despite these safety features? I do legal work, which includes a lot of drafting and commenting on documents every day. An unlucky "blip" for me would not be good.
  9. This is true if you buy a mid or lower grade machine. Performance will drop off as software installation and updates start building a lot of bloat. I used to buy $599 computers, too, but the last few times, I went with the latest high performance CPU, plenty of RAM and an SSD. I get years out of them. Intel i-7's have been out a good, long time, and they are still fast in relation to almost everything else. I am sometimes tempted to get an i-9, but I can wait. IMO, $1,200 buys a really good computer. Avid gamers will want much more.
  10. Happy Birthday, Carl! Hope you all had a great time!

    Jokes?

At school we learned that the word "fish" is spelled GHOTI. GH as in enouGH O as in wOmen TI as in naTIon
  12. When I was young, many of my friends and I were allowed to run the streets and play in the fields, etc. Most parents seem too nervous to allow that these days. So, what's a kid left to do?
  13. Speaking of her, I was recently watching some episodes, and it occurred to me that Frazier's character is based on hers. Compare how they speak.
  14. Speaking of punks... Hey, punk. Remember this gal?
  15. I had some really good snack bar treats which used almond butter. But when I made an AB&J, instead of a PB&J, sandwich, it wasn't that good. Kind of "yuck!"
  16. I thought Peter Pan was the best until I was challenged to a blind taste test. Jif won. I was convinced.
  17. I agree. That's true in life for everyone.
  18. For those who are clinging to their guns and Bibles...
  19. Next up... "12,000 Haitians under a Del Rio bridge is good."
  20. Tell me you're not serious. LOL! That's the way laws are generally made.
  21. Try practicing without a license, and see how far that gets you.
  22. Somehow, you've changed. You strike me now as a defeatist without an opinion (other than everyone else's opinion is hypocritical or uninformed).
  23. Well, we could start with one simple change. "Thou shalt not fire an employee for refusing to take the jab."
