  1. Glad to hear you were happy with Bill's work, Boxx. He sounds great. I think I'll give him a call to chat if this all works out. Thanks for the link!
  2. Fritz, I don't believe it's ever been worked on. I will do some checking on that. It may also have set idle for part of it's life so... thanks for your message. LB
  3. I'm registered and on my way. Thanks for the clues. Maybe I'll pop in later. Happy Christmas!
  4. jhoak, I was just reading some back pages there a few days ago and almost registered. I think I'll head over there. Thank you for your suggestions. LB
  5. Thanks Mustang. I didn't realize he was doing those too. Good to know. I appreciate your post.
  6. I've been looking at one of these for a couple of weeks now for a second system and would really like to talk to a qualified tech first about service and/or a potenial rebuild. Just thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks for any leads. Also, what can I expect a receiver of this age to require? And any idea on cost? I can see sending it anywhere really but I'm located in the midwest.
  7. Just for the accessibility and freedom this is just amazing to me. Switching from track to track instantly? With Khorns and a tube amp (or like product [+o(]) and a wireless laptop? No! With potentially thousands of albums at your fingertips? Seriously? Now that would be cool! You have that now? You all are gods to me (along with the guy that sold me my speakers). [G] ha! I just want it too. Brian the newbie
  8. Thanks everyone. I'm off to read more about the DacMagic. This is getting interesting.
  9. Hi Doctor. I'm just dreaming. About using a Macbook laptop to control KHs and a tube amp. Perhaps not possible? This guy had a zillion songs at his fingertips, but no Klipsch. [^o)] I was trying to complete the picture for him (or me).
  10. Would it be possible to use a wireless Macbook laptop and wireless Khorns? I heard a laptop system last night (with a zillion songs on it) and a pair of hardwired B&O speakers. The convenience was mindboggling but he thought it might be possible to incorporate wireless Khorns instead. Just curious.
  11. For me, Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Tin Pan Alley (aka The Roughest Place In Town)". The way his fingers move across the fretboard. Wow. And the tone he gets, was it Fender? I don't even know. Incredible track!
  12. Ever hear a Samsung (or others) "Powerbar"? Saw them last night and wondered if this might be a good option too. New to me but sounded great.
  13. Very interesting idea! I'd guess it does have audio out jacks as the set is SONY and only a month old. I don't have the model # but I'll grab the manual tonight and check. This might offend some purists but it might also be just what I'm looking for. Love the $ amount too. Thanks for idea. You rock!
  14. Our room is on the long & narrow side but I have maybe 25-30' between the KHorns on the other end. Sealed or front ported enclosures, huh? I'll have to do some more reading but that sounds do-able. As for a receiver, I don't have anything besides the TV right now. Would that be recommended? You mean, vs. an amp, etc. (sorry). Radio listening might be nice when Brent Musberger is doing the game. Need to mute him somehow!
  15. Carl- Those small, cubed areas L/R on top would allow something maybe 10" wide X 15" deep. I almost see those as something horizontal if possible, kind of low profile. The upper shelf above the TV is 18" deep and about 19" high. Available space on the sides of the TV? Hmm. I'll have to check again. Not that much as I remember. There is some space behind the flatscreen. And where would you see a sub fitting in here? Btw, I showed the boss those two systems you linked and she about had a heart attack when she saw the price. I think we're looking at something more basic and aimed at boosting the voices, etc. We're not big TV and movie people particularly. Just deaf. [] Jay
  16. Thanks for posting those pictures, Carl. Absolutely no spare time today but I'll do some measuring of the corners asap. And some dusting!
  17. Thanks very much Carl. I'll send it over tonight. Jay
  18. CECAA850, Thanks for talking me down off the ledge! [:#] And I do have a camera. Would you mind if I emailed you a picture to post here? I could do that after work. jay@neb.rr.com This project is one of the last ones downstairs and I'm really looking forward to completion. You know how these things seem to be never ending? Can wait to stop paying the bills too! LB
  19. My entertainment center is probably 8' T X 10' W with 9' ceilings. I've got space above for a speaker on each side I suppose (a space about 14"X12"). Also a lowered shelf above the flatscreen 14"T X 4'W. Trouble for me is it's very much a vintage room, imagine a 1908 slate pool table, old plantings like Christmas catus/snake plants, dark wood, leather chairs. The KHorns are all that show on the other side of room with components stored behind another wall. It's almost anti-tech which led me originally to consider the ceiling speakers. Hopefully this paints a little clearer picture. I appreciate everyone's time and thoughts!
  20. Very helpful! Thanks. That disconnect thing sounds too bizarre to me too. I had no idea it would turn out like that. I think you just saved me some time and $. I'm not sure what my solution might be now though. She's got a big entertainment center for the tv and there's no real room for a soundsystem up front. I'll have to keep thinking.
  21. Islander- Any particular model you could see suiting my needs? I'm a bit of a novice.
  22. I know this has got to sound like a screwball idea to you guys but I'm thinking low profile, invisible, and could see doing five small speakers pretty much overhead for my small viewing area. It probably seats five or six. Too crazy maybe? Or a waste of time and $?
  23. Thinking of installing some in-ceiling speakers above the flatscreen in my basement. Honestly just something to mainly boost the volume for regular tv viewing is my goal (my hearing isn't what it once was and the tv audio quality is just sh*t too). I got the idea recently after visiting a golf course that had them throughout the clubhouse. I liked how they kind of disappear but still sound pretty good. Not to go crazy price-wise but, what lines of Klipsch, or others, etc. might be a good match for me? What can I expect to pay per speaker to get something worth having? I'm not really looking for something big and in your face, more invisible. Thanks for any ideas. ps: On the other end of the room I have my Khorn and a 2-channel system that I really enjoy and use for most of my music listening.
  24. Too many to mention. Couldn't disagree more about Dylan though. [^o)]
