  1. Gotta love that prednisone Stew....works wonders. I use to have asthma symptoms during the 80s when I lived in a hundred year old Queen Anne in our historic district. I spent 10 years renovating it and there was always dust of one type or another. Went through the allergy test where they prick your skin with known allergens such as mold, dust mites, wheat, animal dander. I reacted to four...including dust mites. When I sold the house and moved to the beach the symptoms eased. Now I take 1 singulair tab once a day and almost never have problems. Good luck in getting your asthma under control. Maybe Oscarsear will drop in here for some advice....I believe thats his field. Ace....its good to hear from you and hope the job last. Congrats on getting the speakers up and running. Where is Ben, JB, and Winchester?
  2. Left the turntable on for 3 straight days by accident. Bluesboy came over on memorial day while I was spinning some Miles Davis LPs. We were drawing up plans for a bathroom enlargement so I took the arm off the record but didn't turn it off till last night[:$] No ill effects apparently. Doing less posting and more walking/jogging after dinner. Well maybe not jogging but doing an old man shuffle. I actually look forward to the walks and trying different parks to make sure I don't miss any of the young ladies jogging by. One park is where I played Little League baseball some 49 years ago. Hope everyone is well. Put me down for a Belvedere martini this weekend....dry with pearl onion stuffed olives. Cheers!
  3. Stop worrying about my post count and get back to work on my amp[]
  4. My sentiments exactly. I recall when I was new here some high poster from Texas cited my "tender" number of post to embellish his argument. He is still in my bottom 1% of forum members and I don't get annoyed easily[]
  5. We especially miss OB.....the forum has not been the same since[]
  6. Didn't know that.....sorry to hear. it was a very nice Scotch for the money.
  7. Good news fini....here is to a quick recovery for your daughter. Good to hear Ben's daughter is hearing better. Winchester......thanks for asking. The BB Extreme is a fine preamp as many of you know and I am happy with mine. It arrived in mint condition and could pass for new (thanks Tom). This is the black faced model that was sent back to Mark who added the 6H30 supertube and the cream option in 2009. There is a phono input for LOMC cartridges and one for MM. I have a very nice MM cartridge so no plans for the LOMC imput though its nice to have it available. I have not done a side by side comparison with the Quicksilver Full Function Preamp so I can't say how that would turn out though I suspect the JM has the edge. Keep in mind that the QS is over 15 years old and sold for about the same price then as does the JM at its peak. Sorry I don't have a good grasp on terms to describe the sound other than to say the phono section has a very nice midrange warmth and the linestage via the tape loop makes a very good recording sound even better. Neil Young Live at Massey Hall recorded at 7 1/2 ips on the best Maxell tape was dramatic. I like it so much I haven't had the urge to crack it open and see what the tubes are inside. I know Tom did some tube rolling while he had it and I don't know what he decided were the most pleasing tubes to him. Bring that Zu with you when you get down this way and we will try the cream option. Enough about that.......cheers gentlemen.
  8. LOL fini! Only reason I know about it is Richard emailed me[:|]
  9. Just bought a BB xtreme with supertube and cream added later. A mighty fine piece of gear. If you find one get it....you won't be sorry.
  10. Need more of a review than that Chester. I hear there was a lot of sex! Inquiring minds want to hear the details!
  11. No internet service at home. Bummer.....either the router or modem I guess or either RoadRunner. I hate trying to figure these things out with my extremely limited computer skills. Thanks again for the well wishes guys. Picking the wife up Saturday after her doctors appointment in Charlotte. She received some encouragement there.....hopefully enough to last till a kidney comes through. She did have a fun stay with her sister and brother-in-law. Say hey to everybody at the Ga gathering winchester. Sounds like a good time and I hear bear chops are on the menu. Hope all the regulars and those passing through have a great weekend. Now its home to cut the grass[:S]
  12. Thanks for the concern. Been on vacation to the Outer Banks after a trip to Duke last friday. Julia's kidney and pancreas are in decline and she will be going back on the transplant list. She will be in your neck of the woods monday-friday winchester.....seeing a Dr. Hart in Charlotte. We also have an appointment in Georgetown in August and have talked with folks at Johns Hopkins and Cleveland Clinic. Leaving no stone unturned. She needs a transplant from someone with "A" or "O" blood type and I happen to be a "B". There is a procedure they do at Georgetown that basically destroys her immune system so that she would not reject my kidney. We will be looking into that as well as shared donation where someone gets my kidney that is their match and their donor would give Julia a kidney. Other than the health issues vacation was relaxing for us both. Good food....cobia, halibut, ss crabs, crabcakes. Good to hear you have been saving my place at the bar and that everyone is on the mend. Cheers!
  13. Extremely sad news Doug. I am very sorry for your loss. Let us know how we can help. A good time to remind everyone here that there is a critical shortage of organ donors here in the USA. The waiting list for a kidney is 7-8 years. My wife is waiting for a kidney as we speak and has previously had a pancreas transplant. If you want to be a donor make sure your family knows your intentions. You can change someone's life forever.
  14. Sorry Kevin.....hoping for a very positive outcome. Keep us informed.
  15. Ditto! My two old labs had good lives and lived to be fourteen....now buried in the side yard. No pets now unless I count the two crows I'm trying to tame with twice a day feedings of bread. Named them Russell and Sheryl[] Handsome dog Thad!
  16. Ace....good to hear from you. Hope those legs/knees hold up during training. Good to see Boxx here at the bar again....getting to be a regular....we'll start saving your seat. Thanks for the email winchester....tried to reply but my reply was blocked? Ben hope you and the family are well. Where is our buddy Stew? Another short session with the new preamp this afternoon. Think its a keeper. Just sunday bluesboy and I were speculating if there could be an improvement over the Quicksilver preamp with its really nice phono section. Well there is for sure. My bud Oldbuckster once questioned me when I was going on about my new HK A500 and how I thought it sounded better than my horn monos. He was right. Maybe it was not better....just different. Anyway...I like the BBX. I like the sound particularly the clarity, the layout, the appearance (black face). Its a little larger than the QS and does not have outlets on the rear nor does it have a mute button (no biggie to me). The tape loop sounds better. Listening to a tape of Neil Young "Live at the Phillmore East" I've never heard it sound as clear and open. The mm phono section is very good for a preamp in this price range....Emmy Lou's voice sounds perfect. The preamp is dead quiet at idle and paired with the horn monos (also very quiet) when you hear the music start its from a black background. Its' an extremely good value. I suggest that we get Mark Deneen to end his retirement and start producing more great gear. And thanks to forum member TK49 for making the transaction a pleasure and preserving this little gem. Cheers gentlemen!
  17. Ace......congrats on the job and good luck with training. When you get back ...drinks are on you. The new to me preamp arrived. Hooked it up this afternoon and gave a quick listen. TK49 did a great job of packing and is a pleasure to deal with. Mark seems to have gotten this one right. It has cream but I'm using a mm Clearaudio virtuoso wood so no need for cream right now. I am going to mix a martini and head to the music room. Cheers gentlemen!

  21. Found a new to me retaurant last night.....Terazzo Tratoria near Wrightsville Beach. Very good and reasonable. Had some excellent chianti, flounder picatta, and a lemon filled philo dough for dessert. Bien! Other news......bought a BlueBerry Extreme with Cream and the super tube 6h30 from a fellow forum member. Hope to send my QS Full Function Preamp to Craig for some souping up and then decide which one to keep. I have read almost everything about the BlueBerry and it all sounds good. Especially enjoyed the 6moons.com review. Another addicted gear head. Winchester....you are going to need a gallon of record cleaner for your project! Hope everyone is well. Cheers!
