  1. oh yes as didn't mean to leave out the cornwalls as I was thinking new. as far as used corns are a good match (even a fairly good to my klf). i haven't heard forte or chorus, but sounds like they are a pretty decent match for the official heritage speaks, especially in the surround/rear duty.
  2. Kain, i may be sticking my neck out here, but i have to say that center speaker cable thing is all hype. but if its the same cost & makes you feel better, go for it. though my guess is it costs more, no?
  3. yeah me too. sounds like you have 4 speakers. if so why not hook the rb to the denon's fronts speaker posts & the polk to its surrounds posts. then you set up your denon for those 4 speakers & use a mode that plays all 4 the way you like. if your receiver needs more power for you then you need a power amp. most receivers like your denon don't have power inputs to run another receiver or preamp into anyway.
  4. something to be said for a company that makes only subs, like velo, svs. i'd definitely lean toward a comparable velo over a ksw. but if its not down to those two for sure, definitely take a look at the lowest priced subs at www.svsubwoofers.com just a lil more than $500 for the smaller powered sub or you could get the nonpowered w/ a good powered plate amp for $500 easy. if i were starting out again & looking for a <$1000 sub, svs would be where i'd go. btw prod, that is amazing. funny some reviewers say the hgs is a great music sub & others say its a great HT sub. i agree w/ them.
  5. yeah jd you need 4-5 lascala or belles. it that doesn't get you into 5-7 "channel"/speaker music, or you have some kinda budget, substitute heresy where applicable. simple as that. really, since it sounds like you'll be using the khorns only for 2-channel, if i were you i'd get a lascala or belle center, 2 heresy for surround, & 1 for a rear surround center (2 if you have a huge space between the surrounds). anything else & you'll be compromising timbre match. oh & then about a sub...
  6. av, & amoungst others, don't forget to mention the adjustable high/low pass crossover settings in the processor. in what, 5hz increments down to 40hz? great for when you have big speaks like most of us do. sony should be commended for this alone as like marantz & about every other receiver maker hasn't gotten w/ the program there. btw, you know who makes the dsp for the sony es?
  7. yeah for used knock at least 30% off the current new market price for anything that depreciates, as long as they are still available new. that's my rule of thumb anyway.

    REL Quake

aab, sorry no rel experience here. but sounds like an svs is out of the question.
  9. bob, like sp i thought the same. iow, i though the C7 horn was designed to disperse more vertically in its regular horizontal placement. that way the sound is more confined to the screen instead of being dispersed across the paths of the fronts. if its designed to be more horizontal in dispersion, maybe i should turn it verticle as a center. please confirm.
  10. yes as dean says. my b&k set-up w/ klf/heritage is a nice fit. warm, smooth & tight, yet at the same time the mids & highs are crystal clear but not too bright. for me anyway. f.e., never before this heard the sizzle of a cig so clearly, or like when someone goes to talk can now hear their lips seperate. little nuances not there before, but that add to the clarity & effect.
  11. just a note though that hiss & noise on higher end equipment could mean that they use no mute circuits or noise reduction in order to keep the circuitry more discrete. f.e., i get hiss at high volume when nothing is playing & stick my ear up by the speaker, & when i switching i get a slight pop. but when something's playing, the sound is crystal & excellent. iow, what's important is how the component sounds when you have material playing, no?

  13. sounds like as you turn up the volume the noise from your receiver &/or input electronics is overcoming the rf. i've got the same on my rear cornwalls w/ about 30ft of cable runs. i'm going to contact the engineers at the radio station & see if they'll supply some ferrite cable attachments. they better or i'll contact the fcc.
  14. moon, 60 degrees is warm for what we're talking. h, that's about what it is in my house right now here in cold kc.
  15. spped, you may also want to check out the thread by cluless in this section on your avatar filename. i can't see your avatar w/ netscape 4.79. mike, sorry i haven't used onecall though i've checked their prices a few times. i'd check w/ sony to make sure you'd have a manufacturer's warranty - no offense to onecall but just to be safe & sure.
  16. thanks clu! i was trying to tell folks on a one to one basis & this hopefully helps more efficiently. i just like my netscape 4.79 over IE & n-scape 6.0+. & i'm not changing until n-scape drops it.
  17. boa12 westwood, ks (kansas city metro) bd: none of your beeswax. i just use "old".
  18. fm, you're right it is confusing between speakers & true discrete channels. there is no format that has 7.1 DISCRETE channels. closest is dts ES 6.1 discrete w/ 6.1 discrete channels (or 7 total discrete channels including the discrete though limited bandwidth LFE channel).
  19. sounds like a ground loop. just go to the hardware store & get an adapter for like 70 cents that makes the 3 prong into a 2 (removes the safety ground). or do a search on here for "ground loop" for more info. btw, do you also have cable or dbs tv connected to your sys in some way?
  20. if it has a 3-prong power plug, use a 3:2 adapter/cheater plug.
  21. "5.the thin "clip" like conectors(another EL Cheapo way)" yeah that's what i meant by pins. whatever they're called.
  22. "I can see his avatar fine" prod, well i can't. this was just a courtesy to colin about a known file name problem (space in filename) seeing avatars w/ netscape 4.7X. & you're probably using IE anyway.
  23. refers to both connection methods & devices - straight in da hole, wrap around, pin, spade, banana
  24. prod, wise investment that should last a lifetime too. then you'll have to make enough $$$ to get a nice house w/ a good room & corners. colin, i can't see your avatar w/ my netscape. does your avatar filename have a space in it? just to let you know so you can be seen.
  25. ej, the same year you moved to CR, i graduated from HS. oh well, most i knew went to wash anyway. did date some real nice gals from kennedy & prairie though. but in IA i think there's only 1 degree of seperation - that is, knowing people, not being related.
