  1. I was running this combination for the last 6 months. I thought it was pretty darn good. I had rs-35s as surrounds and an swii-8 sub. Though, I did make some stands for the quartets to put the horns up to ear level when I was seated. That made a difference for the better. It didn't really effect the bass since most of the bass was produced by the sub. Then I upgraded the networks on the quartets and the academy with popbumpers crossovers. That made a huge difference - made the sound image have more depth.

But I was able to snag some ChorusII off of craiglist last week and replaced the quartets with those. But ChorusII, ForteII, Quartet, Academy are all in the same family and you can't go wrong.

  2. I just happened to stop by Simply Stereo in Hoffman Estates this morning. And saw they got a pair of walnut Cornwalls and cherry Hersey's in their demo room. I'm not the best at describing sounds but all I can say is they both sounded phenominal!! The Cornwall's blew we away listening to the first 2 tracks of Dark Side of the Moon. I could have stayed there all day.

  3. There's a bug in ZoneAlarm that doesn't play nice with XP's ICS. I use free version. It's been said that you should be able to lower the security level and that would allow ICS to work, but I was unsuccessful at getting it to work. The Pro version is supposed to not have the bug, but it looks like it the same issue. Best thing to do is to buy a router with a firewall and share the internet connection thru that.

  4. I'm using omnimount 10's to hang my rs-35's from the ceiling. They work well and the bolt fits perfectly into threads of the mount on the back of the rs-35. Weight wise, the specs for the omnimount holds up to 10lbs and the surrounds are just under that. For me, they seem to be holding up very well.

  5. Does anyone know if there are any dealers in or around the Chicago area that have Heritage demo rooms? I'd like to give some a listen, but the dealers near me say they can order, but have no heritage for demo.

Simply Stereo in Hoffman Estates on Higgins has some Khorns in one of there rooms that you can demo.

  6. I don't think you can actually see any light coming out of the head phone jack like you do on a regular optical out. I was skeptical about the spdif on my Asus laptop until I actually tried it with the toslink cable - I just plugged it in with no other changes to any settings. But I maybe wrong about my laptop having the same type of spdif connection as the Qosmio. Anyway, good luck figuring it out.

  7. I have a laptop that has the same shared spdif/head phone jack. What you need is mini toslink cable or mini toslink adapter with a regular toslink cable. The mini toslink fits into the headphone jack and pipes out the digitial signal. Just google on toslink and you should be able to find some sites that sell the cables. I found mine an my local radio shack.

  8. Larry, just saw your post in another thread and didn't want to hijack that. I found these thread specs on the omnimount site - http://www.omnimount.com/pdf/OmniSupportlit.pdf

This is in the ball shaft specs (p. 6) of the pdf:

    10.0 series thread is 1/4" - 20

    20.0 series thread is 3/8" - 16

If you look in the pdf, there is some other information about adapters but I'm not too sure if it states what you're looking for.

As I said before, I have my rs-35's mounted with the 10.0 series and after a few weeks of loud music and movies, they are still stable. I'm not really worried that they will be coming down by themselves.

  9. I don't know the exact bolt size but I've mounted my rs-35's using Omnimount stainless steel 10.0 wall/ceiling mounts. The speakers are just under 10 pounds. It seems pretty stable so far. And I was able to tilt the speakers a bit downwards with them.

    Cheers.

  10. I took the plunge and setup my home theater, thanks to some advice from my first post. My ht setup is Quartet mains, Academy center, SW8 sub, and RS-3 for surrounds. I found the Academy by chance at a place in Oregon, just googling for klipsch academy. The place is Echo Audio, website: echohifi.com. Just emailed and called them up, Kurt was a great guy to talk to, very responsive to questions, honest and gave me a great deal with shipping compared to what the academy was going for on ebay. Shipping was FedEx and they boxed the speaker up really well. I would definitely buy from them again.

I picked up the Yamaha RX-V757receiver and a demo RS-3's at a local sound shop with some RS-35's on order. I decided to get the smaller RS-3 surrounds as opposed to full sized speakers (ie. another set of quartets, fortes, etc.) after talking to the guy at the shop. The two factors involved were I would not be able to easily fit another set full sized speakers in the room and for my purposes the diffused sound from the dipole type speakers would be sufficient. I did notice the slight timbre difference between the mains and surrounds when listening to dvd audio discs. But I may have been looking for it or heard it because I'm aware of the difference. I still need to invite some friends over who are into this stuff to check it out, but my wife didn't notice anything in the sound nor did she care though. Movie soundtracks were great, nothing noticeably with that. The RS-35's are on order because my wife didn't care for the looks of the slightly scuffed up demo RS-3's either. So when the RS-35's come in, I'll be swapping out the RS-3 for those. I'll see if the voice matching gap becomes any more noticable.

In the last few days, after re-watching the Matrix series, a few of the Star Wars moveis, Toy Story and Incredibles (with the kids), this little indulgence was definitely worth it.

  11. Hi - This is my first post on these forums. I'm a newbie to home theaters and I'm looking for some advice. I own Quartets and absolutely adore them. I also recently obtained a SW 8 powered subwoofer off of ebay that I haven't hooked up yet. I'm just starting to read through these forums and learn about matching speakers and such. So here are my questions:

    1) Is the SW 8 sub ok or is there another sub that would go well with the Quartets?

    2) What's a good center channel speaker with the Quartets? From these forums, it seems like Academy most recommended.

    3) What are good rear surrounds with the Quartets? I don't have room for floor standing speakers so another pair of Quartets is out of the question. I'm hoping to mount the rear speakers from the ceiling.

    4) Lastly, how do the current Klipsch speaker lines (ie. Reference, Synergy) compare against the Quartets. I'm entertaining the idea of selling the Quartets to get the whole matching set of new Klipsch models instead of searching high and low trying to find good matches for the Quartets and having to pay for rare speakers. But I think the Quartets are jewels and would hate to part with them.

And I'm looking to get the Harman-Kardon AVR-635 as the reciever for this. Looking forward to any advice. Thanks.
