  1. I live about 35 minutes drive from Bryan College Station.
  2. This is easy: Randy Rhodes. He was classically trained and never stopped trying to learn. People often try to pigeonhole Randy with his Ozzy days but overlook his classical guitar prowess and lifelong pursuit of mastering that art. Randy could stand the hair on the back of your neck up with ONE NOTE using sustain. Some of his stuff on the Ozzy albums show that, but his talent gets lost in all the Ozzy-theme hype. One example would be the ending to 'Tonight' from Diary of a Madman. The long drawn out solo Randy does is slowly faded away as the song closes, but if you keep turning up the volume you will hear his mastery of sustain and feedback. But even that doesnt come close to illustrating what that guy could do. There are a plenty of shredder riff guitarist out there (ala Zakk Wylde) who can scale for hours perfectly, but it doesnt take long to see how that can leave you empty. If you wanna see insane fretwork go watch Jeff Watson; the first person to lay down the incredibly tough 8-finger technique, but that stuff doesnt touch Randy. Its all about feeling and how the notes dig in and tweak your insides. Only guy Ive heard who can milk a note as good as Randy was Stevie Ray. Derek Trucks is getting there fast with his slide also. Mister can you make folks cry when you play and sing.Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues, Can you bend them guitar strangs. He said, Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside, Cause if your big star bound let me warn you its a long hard ride.
  3. Behind Closed Doors - Charlie Pride When you need a friend through thick and thin, Dont look to those above you. When youre down and out, aint no doubt, Nobody wants you.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion on the connectors. As for the paint and changes affecting value I see it like this: I know nothing about Klipsch stuff. I have no prior info about what owners/collectors like or want or what people have done before. I figured others had crossed this bridge before and I would gather a little input before re-inventing the wheel. Of course its all about the sound, but heck if Im going to take time to do all that cosmetic work I might as well do a little reconnasaince (sp?) and see what the buzz is from those who know more than I do. Further, I have no intention of ever selling them, but my wife or son might if I cash in the chips early. So I figured Id throw some questions out and see what comes back and not do something stupid from ignorance. My wife is a teacher and tells me all the time, "theres no such thing as a stupid question" - so I throw stuff out all the time. So thanks again and keep it coming. Im all ears.
  5. Tony isnt so little anymore.... http://www.tonyroysterjr.com
  6. I have a few questions for you good folks: Im reveneering my '78 Cornwalls and was wondering if anyone had replaced the OEM speaker wire connections with a different setup? (the connectors on the back cabinet door) And if so, what did you use? Also, would this detract from their value to alter them in this manner? Secondly, I want to repaint the area under the grilles black again; is there a type & color or type of paint that works best to get the OEM look? Thanks in advance for any info. []
  7. HA, havent had a 'doo' like that since 1979..... Cmon Jeff, dont you recognize Nigel ??
  8. Thanks for the welcome everyone! "Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? "
  9. CBR = Cornwall Birch Raw Actually Jeff, I signed on last year looking for some info and hadnt been back since. Been occupied with other audio projects. Only came back here to get info & advice from all you Klipsch gurus and find guidance for my new CBRs. Im totally Klipsch illiterate, but want to learn. These things are incredible.
  10. Darn it Jeff, I was trying to sneak in the back door and you caught me. DOH ! Yep, I love these CBRs and I am wanting to put a fresh face on them to go with the great sound. So Im looking into reveneering them and have the crossovers checked out as well. I have several other sets of loudspeakers, but have always wanted to own some Cornwalls after hearing Jeffs back in about '93-'94. Make no mistake, the others speakers I have dont even come close to how these CBRs sound. These Corns sing and they will never leave my music room! As for the amp, just a lil ole SX-1250. Thanks for the welcome and for turning me on to some of the best speakers Ive heard yet!
  11. David Crosby - 'Almost Cut My Hair' Heres one: Take me across the water 'cause I need some place to hide. I done the rancher's daughter and I sure did hurt his pride. ha-ha
