  1. FabulousFrankie, I have very similar gear to what you are getting. I recently demoed an RSW12 for a week from my local Tweeter, and I was NOT very impressed. It played a little louder than my Velodyne, but the rolloff down low was very evident. Ít's response was not as flat (I did not write down measurements, because I decided to return it). All I can say is that below 30hz, it's output dropped significantly compared to my HGS12, which is very flat down to around 20hz. (By no means do I consider myself an expert, but I know how to use an SPL meter). I decided if I want more output I'll upgrade to the HGS 15 or 18. If you go with the RSW, do yourself a favor and get the 15. It is tuned lower and should not have this problem. The 15 is special order at Tweeter, so I couldn't borrow that one. On another note, I'm not sure if you had a chance to demo that Parasound Amp, but you will be very happy with it. I tried the 855A and ended up getting the 1205A just because I got a deal I couldn't pass up on the controller and amp. I did not notice any difference between the 2. Even at extremely high volumes, the 855 sounded identical to the 1205. I don't think you can use more than 60watts or so with any Klipsch speaker without your ears bleeding. 2. You definitely want your front three speakers to match sonically, and you definitely want them to be powered very similarly in HT. The center is the most important speaker in HT, so you don't want to skimp on wattage there. On another note, I recently upgraded from a denon 3300 receiver (105W per channel) to a parasound separates, and the volume difference was extreme. Most receivers are not conservatively rated. Generally speaking, 100 watts of receiver power is not at all equal to 100 watts of $2k amplifier power. Also, when you are powering multiple speakers in HT with a receiver, the amp in the receiver the amp in the receiver will not put out its stated wattage (again, generally). In my case, I've read the Denon put out around 60-70w per channel, even though it's rated at 105. You can, however, get away with powering the surrounds with the reciever. The bottom line is that your mileage will vary, but my guess is you would be happier sprining for the extra channel in the amp. I tried using my denon as a pre-amp with my parasound amp while waiting for my separate controller, and it worked really well. Separates usually generate less noise (in theory anyway). But I can't say that I noticed much of a difference. Buy the amp first, and demo a separated controller and compare the two IN YOUR LISTENING ENVIRONMENT, NOT AT THE STORE. ------------------ RF-3 Mains RC-3 Center RS-3 Surrounds (movies) RB-5 Surrounds (music) KSW-12 Sub Parasound AVC-1800 Parasound HCA-1205A Pioneer Elite DV-05 Denon CDR-1800 Parasound S/PS-140 Hitachi 43FDX01B DVDO IScan Pro
  3. I have the DVDO Iscan pro, and it works really well. I brought that and the new Denon 2800 home (both have the same Silicon chipset, which is as good as it gets, and the Denon is the cheapest DVD player to use it) and they both work really well, and are priced similarly. You can't go wrong with either one. I chose the Iscan just because my Hitachi's line doubler isn't that great, and it really improves picture quality with the crappy cable I have in my area. I'm using it with Pioneer's Elite DV-05, a pretty good interlaced player, and I'm really happy with the results. ------------------ RF-3 Mains RC-3 Center RS-3 Surrounds (movies) RB-5 Surrounds (music) KSW-12 Sub Parasound AVC-1800 Parasound HCA-1205A Pioneer Elite DV-05 Denon CDR-1800 Parasound S/PS-140 Hitachi 43FDX01B DVDO IScan Pro
  4. Sadly, two years ago, my father was duped into a Blose system. I don't even remember which acoustimass system - nor do I care - an Energy 12" sub for the low end (at least he acknowledged the lack of bass, and the Energy is not a bad sub at all), and an Onkyo receiver (pretty nice). About a year ago, I became a proud Klipsch owner, the Ref line, Denon 3300, Ksw-12, etc. I invited my father over for a taste of The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over." He literally stormed out of the house, and I thought I saw a tear in his eye. The next weekend he called me and asked me to go shopping with him. He picked up the Ref line, Denon 4800, Ksw-12. Needless to say he is a happy Klipsch convert. Some other good came out of this for me. A few weeks ago I borrowed his Denon 4800 and compared it side by side in my listening room to separates from B&K, Parasound, and Adcom. How did it end? Put it this way, I will never waste another $ on a "receiver" again. The 4800 was smoked by all the other setups (IMO, of course). I went with the Parasound because I got a great deal and couldn't pass it up. The B&K gear was very impressive, and if money were no object, that's what I would have grabbed. Anyone considering spending $1500 or more on a receiver should seriously consider separates.
  5. You raise a good point boa, that I've seen elsewhere on the BB. I would like to see an option for a lower crossover, like the 50hz you said, especially for music. I have to flip switches to run my mains full for music, sub or no sub, and I would rather just set it lower (like 50hz)and forget about it no matter what I'm listening to. I understand why a THX system would require such a high crossover, but in most home systems, it doesn't make much sense to have it set that high. It can't be that expensive to add that option to a controller/receiver. I know I would pay for it. And don't even get me started on DVD-Audio bass management. ------------------ RF-3 Mains RC-3 Center RS-3 Surrounds (movies) RB-5 Surrounds (music) KSW-12 Sub Parasound AVC-1800 Parasound HCA-1205A Pioneer Elite DV-05 Denon CDR-1800 Parasound S/PS-140 Hitachi 43FDX01B DVDO IScan Pro
  6. All three sizes will be released, I believe. All I know is that they are supposed to be comparable to the Velodyne HGS series, which means they'll be really, really good. I have had my eye on the HGS 12 for a while now, but I'm waiting to hear the new References before I buy. I'd rather give my money to Klipsch. ------------------ RF-3 Mains RC-3 Center RS-3 Surrounds (movies) RB-5 Surrounds (music) KSW-12 Sub Parasound AVC-1800 Parasound HCA-1205A Pioneer Elite DV-05 Denon CDR-1800 Parasound S/PS-140 Hitachi 43FDX01B DVDO IScan Pro
  7. I have a parasound controller, and it's cutoff is at 80hz, which is what THX recommends. I just switched from a denon 3300, and I have to say, I think that I was getting some bass cancellation due to overlap with the denon, no matter what I set it at. With the parasound, I set my KSW-12 to 120hz (as high as it will go to avoid overlapping the parasound's crossover) and I get MUCH more balanced sound. And I tried everything with the Denon. Is it the quality of the crossover? I have no idea, all I know is it sounds much better. Now I just can't wait until the new Reference subs come out, because the KSW cannot keep up by any means. ------------------ RF-3 Mains RC-3 Center RS-3 Surrounds (movies) RB-5 Surrounds (music) KSW-12 Sub Parasound AVC-1800 Parasound HCA-1205A Pioneer Elite DV-05 Denon CDR-1800 Parasound S/PS-140 Hitachi 43FDX01B DVDO IScan Pro

  10. I can't offer you advice about the 2500, but I would love to know what you think about the 1800. Specifically, what amp and speakers are you using it with. I've heard about some quirks with this unit as far as the signal sensing delay and the like. I am considering picking one of these up, along with the HCA-855A amp to power my reference series system. I don't know of any competitors in this price range (for separates) and I've heard good things about the 855 amp. Any advice?
  11. Anyone know a good center channel speaker stand match for the RC3? I went to a Tweeter store and they were no help and had nothing. I can't seem to find one online either. I need one around 12 inches, but can't seem to find one that will handle the size and weight of the RC3.
