  1. I am going to try and give you guys as much information as I can here so as to recieve a complete answer in return. Thank you for your time. I just recently purchased over Ebay a pair of Black RF-82 II's from a man that claimed he was moving and had to get rid of them and only had them for two weeks. In box in original wrapping 1000 dollars with free shipping. They will arrive March 25th at my house. I was planning on buying a 750 dollar pair of RF-5's, but when I saw this deal I just had to jump on it. My background and experience: I used to own a yamaha HTR 5840 and a pair of RF-3's that I got for 300 dollars brand new 5 years ago and both of them and the reciever were stolen from my apt. I replaced my reciever with a Yamaha HTR-5940 which I still own today, and also bought a RC-5 center which I still have. The RF-3's souned like music to my ears and I was satisfied with what I had. I use them mainly for Movies but the longer I had them the more music I seemed to listen to; so I suppose I use them for both. I listen to Rock, Classical, Alternative, Jazz, Heavy metal. I know what good speakers sound like to my ear because my friend works at a B and W shop in Austin, TX and I gott to sit down and demo everything with him and I seemed to come out with the consensus that once you hit about 3,500 dollars or so for a pair of speakers, the the gains in "performance" tapered off dramatically after that in concordance with price. Could I still tell the difference between the 3,500 pair and the 120,000 dollar pair? Oh yea, for sure. But man, thats expensive, ha. The 3,500 dollar pair was satisfying enough. I can not afford at this moment to upgrade my reciever at all and will have to stick with the HTR-5940 and I am looking for some advice on setup to make sure I've tweaked everything I can tweak to get the best I can. Unfortunately the room that they will be in is only 15L x 15W x 14H and the viewer will be on the back wall in the middle watching a 46inch LCD that is hooked up to a computer that hadles all the media(blu-ray quality audo card and vedeo card and multiple custom Spdif outs for 6.1) So, should I... Set the speaker size for large on the fronts, and medium on the center? Set the distance from the viewer in feet on the reciever? Fiddle with the toe-in to my own taste.? Have speaker wire and bannana clips A friend mentioned i should bridge my amplifier for more power to have a better sound quality possibly? Listen to music in 2 channel audio mode. What do you guys think?
  2. thanks for the input, I have read up on psw 505 from polk and it dosnt sound too bad... Does anyone have any opinion on this sub? thanks tony
  3. I am in a room that is about 12x15, (my living room in my apt) and i already have a yamaha HTR-5840 and two RF-3's that i scored for about $300 in perfect condition. I have a 32 westinghouse HD flat panel LCD with my computer directly hooked up to it in the middle of it all on a black stand. Its like a 32 in computer monitor, its friggen great. Right now in 2ch stero i love the way it sounds especially when playing techno or house music. at about -30 on the volume there is just no way of going louder with out A. the cops or B. ringing ears. So i am happy about that. However, i noticed that when watching movies my system is lacking an obvious low frequency which i need a sub for and i am having a hard time making out dialogue as well. I am not sure how to place a new center behind my tv? Maybe a tall stand directly behind the TV right above the screen? Mount it on the wall? I really do not want a shelf system around this nice TV. I watch movies and listen to music equally so i guess 2ch stereo isnt going to cut it :/ After some research i found that an RC-3 might go well with my system. or should i go rc-5 and leave room to grow so if i move into a house or bigger living room some day... as far as a sub i really have no idea what to get. My budget: I am willing to spend another $700 for those two items. any input is great and i appreciate the time thanks tony
  4. well the rooms are a bit defferent, i am in a apt living rom and his is in an actual house and no i was not using a sound meter, just going off ear.. Since you guys have brought up so many things here is what ill do... II'll set my reciever to 4ohms, 2 channel steeo, sp amp level at the center, preset to a certain VOL level, and go by a sound meter and play a song?? should i use a test song of some sort?? how far away should i hold the sound meter? How much does a sound meter cost? I go home in one week where my buddy lives and ill do the same to his. Thanks for all the input guys and gals. Sorry it takes so long to respond but the marine corps has very demanding hours of me. thanks, Tony
  5. Hello everyone, i am a complete newbie to surround sound in my apt. I am posting becasue i believe i have a problem with my system. To start off, my friend has a complete Klipsch home theatre and it is quite impressive. But my focus today is about his and my 2 front tower speakers. I have a YAmaha HTR-5840 and 2 RF3's for my towers. I also have some stupid garage sell sub and center channel... My friend has an entire synergy line to include 2 synergy 2 towers and a yamaha reciever HTR-5450 (identical to mine except it is one version older.) Well the thing is when my friend turns his up to about -50-55 it screams and it sounds unbelievable... he has kept all the stock settings and hasnt messed with the sp volume levels or anything. Mine, on the other hand at the stock settings i need to turn it up to about 28 or so just to get CLOSE to the same vol level as my friend and it just dosn't sound quite as good... Im not sure what other details you guys might need to make a good suggestion for me, so just let me know. -Tony
