  1. You will be happy with the level of customer service and the quality guarantee from Craig. T.C.
  2. I have a mac C26 preamp with a variable loudness feature that attenuates the volume I also have a Velodyne hgs-18 that kicks in around 45-50 hz. I use the sub modestly. The recent combo has improved the "perfect volume". The sub and a modest tone control give a wieght to the system. The Khorn bass bin likes the kick drum and seems to give added realism and percussivenes to the snare @ higher listening levels. In my opinion accoustic modes, reflections and the like have a more pronounced effect as the volume increases. If you have a horrible accoustic problem you will probably see it in your soundstage first at any volume. Noise floor would be the practical consideration for lower volumes enhancing clarity and relevant loudness. You will not have the "disturbing" impact k horns and their cousins can produce @ low volumes. With all of this said your program material has a profound effect. T.C.
  3. I am looking to try the Al K's version of the "AA" for my 72 K Horns. I have the stock network right now driven by a Mac C26 and MC2105 combo. Thanks T.C.
  4. The mid horn is the standard k55 for 1972 khorns dampened. We listened to the AA configuration. I tried the A config for sometime after and did not prefer it.
  5. It is true I did give up drinking and drooling but the bad hygiene remains....... Big hand for these guys good story ,great job! Thebes you have truely mastered the mundane and the unletterred
  6. Great replies, all things I'll look into. Thank you for the input. My friend bought these on my behalf and I cannot fault the purchase for the money, he is looking out for me. Who knows I might get an 8b out of it like Thebes. I am just trying to pick up the pieces. In my experience if the power meters are showing signal the channels are there. Remember I am only a few hours into this venture and I am not committed. I have a working system. What is he best contact cleaner? I went to rat shack and all they had was this lubricant/cleaner/non flammable. I have some stuff from the way back from Dad that destroys the ecosystem @ work. I"ll try that tomorrow.Does anybody know if any of these solvents damage the face plate in any way? If you think it is better to buy a system working and complete for 1000 (what you would pay for the combo, possibly) or better to gamble let"s hear it.
  7. It seems the c26 has issues as well as the mc2105. The preamp makes sound untill the volume is 1/4 then cuts out. Tried a different preamp thru the power amp -sound @ one channel only. then I tried the normal position @ the rear input coupling switch. No sound. Then I switched it back to direct- no sound.Meters are still pumping for both channels. Why would anyone sell mc euipment for $50? Ill post with updates. Any mcintosh owners feel free to advise.
  8. The face plates and lettering are in good cond. Only a little bit of "bubbling" around the headphone jacks. There is some surface rust on the chassis. I am eager to audition this duo on my khorns. see if Ilike the basic sound and maybe recondition them depending on price.
  9. Both pieces power up, and I was able to get sound from the left channel but not the right, although the power meter is working for both. I have found the service manual on line but not the owners or operation manual. Does anybody know what the input coupling switch @ the rear of the mc2105 does? The options are "direct" or "normal". Thanks
  10. My main speakers are Khorns and the subwoofer is a hgs-18 velodyne. Because of the distance from the source, I use the balanced connects.I prefer this to the speaker and line level options. The hgs has an integrated class d amplifer. I usually cut the sub @ 50-60 hz. Will there be a consequence of splitting the output from the preamp such as signal loss? I can boost the input to the sub thru the active xover.
  11. I just contacted Behringer tech support. The cx 3400 xover does basically the same thing as a clean box. However it does nothing for the intial impedance mismatch ( I assume there is one)and the +22 db signal output can only be attenuated -6 db.
  12. Thanks for the response! In my case the info is going thru th xover into (2) dynaco markIII's (the gain is fixed) as well as the sub. I am more concerned that I am hearing distortion and loss from the markIII's due to an impedance mismatch and possibly overdriving them with the signal level out of the behringer. I feel there is a difference in sound quality when using and omitting the xover. I was wondering if anyone else using a sub has had this difficulty. I believe the typical input impedance is around 25k for most units and the average output inpedance for most tube preamps is higher.
  13. It is my understanding that low output impedance should go into high input impedance. I have a bez pre amp and wish to go into an active crossover inorder to use my hgs velodyne (18 "). The behringer is rated @ 25 k input . For the average tube preamp would this be a mismatch and would it be audible? Thanks T.C.
  14. Does anyone know the output impedance of a conrad johnson pv3 preamp?. the web site does not give this info. http://www.conradjohnson.com/It_just_sounds_right/classic-products.html Thanks
