  1. The RF-5 for sale is cherry, the guy has sanded them down but not refinished them, so they are looking a bit fugly. They also have a pushed in dust cover on one of the woofers. The RF 82 II's are NIB, and the right color (black). WAF is the major factor here; if it makes our living room look bad, it won't stay long. As much as I'd like sound to be the deciding factor, it's not. If it were, I'd still have my Klipschorns, or maybe some Cornwalls that a guy put Altec horns on top of (very low WAF).
  2. I am a heritage guy from way back, but now I need thin (9" wide) speakers. So I looked into Klipsch's offerings, but I am totally confused by the RF series, the RP series, the KSF series, and who the heck knows what else. Does anyone have advice on the following? KSF 10.5 RF 82 II RP-3 KF-28 RF 5 R-26F
  3. darn it all, I am inclined to go with the KG4, but I canna change the laws of physics. It may be the 4.2s or bust.
  4. I do prefer the looks of the KG4 as well, but the KG4 is almost 2" wider than the KG4.2, and unfortunately space is at a premium. I'll have to measure the wall to see if it can accommodate 32" of speakers v. 28". Life was easier when I had a mancave. FWIW, I intend to replace a pair of single driver 'full range' speakers that I built from a Madisound kit. They sound good, but I miss Klipsch dynamics, range, and low distortion.
  5. I have the option to buy either a set of KG4 or KG4.2 speakers. Other than the KG4 being somewhat wider, and the KG4.2 being somewhat narrower, are there any other attributes that make one more desirable than the other? Both are priced more or less the same, about $300.
  6. Thanks, I pulled the trigger on these when then went on sale over Xmas. They should be delivered in a weeks' time.
  7. I have Altec computer speakers currently, some el-cheapo model that I bought years ago. They experience RFI from my cell phone, from my Cisco wireless access point, and possibly from other sources, sending loud and annoying clicks and chatter through the speakers. My hope is that if I purchase the above mentioned 2.1 speakers, they will have shielding on the cables sufficient to reduce or eliminate the noise. Barring that, I seem to see from pictures of the speaker connections that the satellites connect via tinned speaker wires. If so, I might be able to loop a ferrite choke around the wires a couple times which may reduce the higher frequency content reaching the satellites. Can anyone speak to this issue? Most appreciated, LT
  8. OK, the darn thing is up on ePay -- if anyone cares.
  9. No problems with the sub at all. Only reason I'm selling is we are moving to a townhouse and I am sure the neighbors won't like it.
  10. Some pics. Darn thing is dustier than I thought. Sorry about that.
  11. I had to let my Klipschorns go last summer, and the subwoofer is the next thing to go. Works extremely well to fill in the bottom half of the last octave for corner mount Klipschorns. Sealed, servo controlled, huge 15" woofer in a 100 lb. box about 22" square. Extremely musical. Comes with remote control and manual. Bought for $700 10 years ago, looking for $400 to sell. As it is so big and heavy, local pickup preferred (Minnesota) otherwise shipping will cost another $100. Will post pictures tonight.
  12. My cheap Altec computer speakers output faint static when I am downloading to the PC. It is because of my wifi card, I am pretty sure. The Altecs cable does not look to be shielded, or possibly it is coming in through the bass unit that holds the power amp. The Klipsch site does not discuss wifi noise rejection for the Promedia 2.1, nor do any of the other computer speaker mktr. sites I have visited. Does anyone have any experience with wifi static and the Promedias?
