  1. Yeah, they're probably a little louder than I thought they would be. In hindsight, I probably would have been satisfied with a smaller set, but I couldn't talk myself into compromise. I have that problem sometimes. I don't know if anyone else has reported owning them or not, I ordered them in late January when my local dealer said he couldn't get the 7's for me. I had to wait for them for about 6 weeks, it about drove me crazy. I'm a little aggravated with this problem, though. I wish there was a sure-fire way to tell if it was the speakers or the cable. Grrr.
  2. I recently bought some RefIV speakers, including the RF83's, RC64, and RS62's. I've had them hooked up for about a week now, and I love them. Side note: Please no questions about how they compare with the 7's, etc. I am novice at best with speakers and wouldn't be able to compare them. I had the money to blow so I splurged. This is the first set of speakers I have ever owned besides bookshelf systems. They do sound UNBELIEVABLE to my ears, though, and that's what matters to me. Let's continue: The past 2 days I have noticed that some television programming causes cracking in the tweeters of BOTH RF83's. Sometimes it is more of a "pop, pop, pop" sound, and other times it is pure distortion (ie during shreiky screams). It is fairly noticable. The programs that caused it were American Idol (Tuesday's broadcast) and True Lies on one of the HBO channels. I have digital cable through Cox Communications. I hadn't noticed the cracking before yesterday, but admittedly, I haven't watched much cable since I've hooked them up. I have mostly watched DVD's and listened to music. I haven't noticed it during DVD playback or music playback, and I have spent a lot of time listening to both. These speakers have not been abused at all. I have them hooked up to a Denon 3806 AVR. When I first hooked the speakers up, I cranked it a little[6], but certainly didn't push them to the limit. As a matter of fact, my AVR will go to a volume of +18 dBs (with no preset equalizer settings), and I never pushed it past +1 or +2. And that was for a very short amount of time just to see what I had bought. Just to see if it could be reproduced with other cable programming, I watched the Opera channel for about 15 minutes (all I could handle before I began projectile vomiting) and didn't hear one crack or distorted note. My question is: Do some cable programs have low quality sound that is transferring to my speakers to make them crack? Have my speakers blown? Any comments suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  3. I wouldn't rush to buy the 7's right now, until I heard the 83's. I know you feel like you're in a pickel because they've been discontinued and you don't want to miss the boat, but believe me, you'll still be able to get the 7's even 3 months from now. Don't feel rushed into purchasing them. If you're anything like me, forking over an extra 200 - 300 bucks to upgrade (if it is indeed an upgrade to go from the 7's to the 83's) is nothing in comparison to the dissatisfaction of knowing you would have been happier with a different set of speakers. I guess my point is...just wait a little longer...til you can hear the 83's and compare the sound AND the price to the 7's. I agree with an earlier post, neither deal is a GREAT deal on a set of discontinued speakers, but I have a feeling you'll be able to at least match that deal somewhere a month from now. There are a lot of 7's out there and they are geared towards a specific type of customer, I don't think they'll disappear tomorrow.
  4. Thanks for the reply, and I didn't mean to sound rude, like you guys aren't doing your job or something. I'm just very anxious!!! I'm now addicted and I need a fix!!![]

    SOCOM III

Any of you guys play SOCOM III for PS2. I love that game. My name is Oddly_Uneven, look me up sometime and try out for the best clan out there, LOS (Legend of Socom).
  6. When are the specs going to be posted? This is driving me nuts!!! Has anyone heard anything I haven't? I've asked my local dealer (who says I can order them, but he doesn't know when they'll arrive or when specs will be available???) and Klipsch, who says the same thing. It doesn't seem very productive to have discontinued most of the Ref III series before the IV's were available to ship. I hope they're available soon, I can't stand it much longer as I am in the process of getting a new system. Oh well, patience is a virtue.
  7. Man, I'm gonna be broke and divorced before this is all said and done. Thanks for all the opinions, guys, it was really helpful!! I'll let you know what I do.
  8. I have just completed a room downstairs that is going to be a dedicated home theater/entertainment room. The dimensions are 11'6" wide by 23' long (perfect rectangle) with 9' ceilings. There are two doors on one wall, and 1 large window at the back of the room (opposite the television). The back wall and (outside) side wall are concrete, but all walls have been insulated and covered with 1/2" drywall, plastered, and painted. I just put a 62 inch Mitsubishi 1080p DLP television down there, and I have been wheelin' and dealin' with the local dealer to get a good price on an audio system for about 3-4 months. I'm finally satisfied with what was offered. This is what I've negotiated: RF7's, RC7, RS7's, RW12, and a Denon 3806 receiver. It will be used almost exclusively for movies (except those weekend parties!!) I have several questions... 1. Is the room big enough for the 7's? 2. I live in a residential neighborhood; my house is about 15 feet from neighbors on both sides. Am I going to get run out of here? Are there things I can do with the window (my primary concern). 3. Is the 3806 powerful enough to satisfy the 7's? 4. Is the RW12 underpowered for the rest of the system? I've heard the RSW subs are impractical and "will split my foundation" as one salesman put it. It's pretty bad when a salesman is turning you away from a higher priced product. I'm sure I'll come up with more questions as I move along, this is pretty good for starters. Any and all advise/opinions are very appreciated, and thanks in advance. BTW, the price for all of this (NEW) and a local (authorized) dealer is $4500, so I would guess the discontinuance of the 7's and introduction of the 83's make this a GREAT time to buy speakers!!! This was a much better deal than I got 3 months ago on the same system (except Denon 3805 instead of 3806 at the time). Is this as good a deal as I think it is?
