  1. Three engineers are discussing the possibility of Intelligent Design Theory with God as the engineer of all creation, but they can't come to any agreement. Finally, the Mechanical Engineer says, "Well, one thing's for sure. God is clearly a Mechanical Engineer. Just look at the marvel of the human hand!" "Not so fast," says the Electrical Engineer. "Look at the central nervous system. God obviously is an EE." "You're both wrong," says the Civil Engineer. "God is a Civil Engineer. Who else would place the primary recreation area right next to the main sewer outlet?"
  2. "Recovering" might be a better word. The sig is Dr. Luther's. Paraphrasing someone smarter than me, I might be described as a Missional, Evangelical, Post/Protestant, Liberal/Conservative, Biblical, Charismatic/Contemplative, Fundamentalist/Calvinist, Anabaptist/Anglican, Lutheran/Methodist, Catholic, Incarnational, Emergent, Unfinished CHRISTIAN whose patron saints would be Soren Kierkegaard and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. And Thou? P Michael Summer
  3. I had a "Skandia" shelving unit collapse kind of like that once!
  4. It's just supposed to be a "sculpture", that's all.
  5. VLA (Very Large Array) Raw Birch LaScala VX. []
  6. Some of us find the "packing crate" look of C/BR's (and especially LaScala's) attractive. It's kind of like when new art arrives at the museum, you open the crates to see the beauty inside. With the C/BR's, you "unpack" them when you turn on the amp. [] FYI: Birch LaScala's actually look a lot like some of the modern sculpture by Donald Judd (next time you drive through Marfa, check it out).
  7. I think "satin black" automotive spray is the one to use. It has a little sheen, and is a harder finish that flat black. Connectors? I kept the tap-blocks on my '78 Cornwalls, and used lugs like these on my old Monster Cables. It's not like I'm swapping out speakers very often. [] I think glass tops on Cornwalls go a LONG way toward improving the WAF, too, which counts as a noticeable sonic enhancement (that high pitch whine is missing).
  8. Almost all ECM recordings sound great, whether "classical" or "jazz". My current favorite: John Potter/The Downland Project: "Care - charming sleep"
  9. That I've heard live (not in any order): Jorma Kaukonen John Fahey Leo Kottke Ryland P. Cooder Richard Thompson Christopher Parkening Andres Segovia Bert Jansch John Renbourn Jerry Garcia Stevie Ray Vaughn Riley LaGrone That I missed: Fred McDowell Pat Metheny Wes Montgomery ...and others I can't think of right now.
  10. As Gen. Phil Sheridan said (while commanding the Army of Occupation in Texas after the Civil War), "If I owned Hell and Texas, I'd live in Hell and rent out Texas."
  11. I would consider making something like this (only without cutting a hole in the bottom of the Heresys).
  12. If you like jazz radio, you might like this.
  13. I thought that was part of the standard Klipsch Factory Finish in the 1970's? ;-)
  14. Congratulations! Great deal. I saw that ad about an hour after it popped up and figured they were already gone. I agree that a good sub would solve the problems I have with Heresys as a "primary" speaker.
  15. I hope you thought about (and got) these. I've always liked Heresys for what they are, but they aren't "full range" like my Cornwalls. Are you sure the problem isn't with Natalie? ;-)
  16. Thanks, Rick. So, is "Grippers" a brand name?
  17. Thanks! I'll take a look. As for decorator grills, I've been thinking of using corrugated tin (in honor of PWK's first workshop), but I can't decide between horizontal or verticle placement. ;-)
  18. 2x4 sheets of what? Drywall? MDF? Plywood? Just curious as to what works for you. I'll be regrilling mine soon, and am weighing various alternatives. Thanks!
  19. What are the local BBQ restaurants/joints/sheds like? Who has the best ribs, the best brisket, and the best sauce? Inquiring (and hungry) minds want to know.
  20. Grippers from Wal-Mart? More info, please.
  21. Over the last decade or so, I've found NPR's All Things Considered to be a GREAT place to hear phenomenal new (to me) music that I wouldn't have heard otherwise (God knows local radio is worthless). Arvo Part, Gavin Beyers, Jordi Savalle, Over the Rhine, Pinback, Gillian Welch, Ollabelle, Innocence Mission, and John Potter were all discoveries for me from ATC's "New Music" series. My twenty-something kids are amazed at some of the the stuff I turn them on to. Thanks, Noah![]
