  1. So late at this post. Glad he is home. A caring family along with rest will bring him back to norm. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  2. OB, I am so sorry I "MISSED IT". Happy Belated, my forum brother!
  3. I was not sure if I should respond or not, or to even continue on this topic. Do I have golden ears. My ears are actually getting better while my libido and my eyesight are growing weaker(I am in my fifties). New prescriptions and meds help those areas. My doctor tells me not to qtip on a daily basis, because wax is good, and I can cause damage if I am careless. I choose to take the risk. I would like to continue to be part of this forum. I never intend to say that I am "better" than anyone. Just to share what I hear. Why the marker works, I do not care. Why the better ac cords work, again, I do not care. I like softer "feet" under my equipment, as opposed to metal ones(except under speakers) because my ears/brain appreciates the improvement. Once a difference is heard, I make the choice as to it being better, or not. Those forum members who continue to make fun, continue if you wish. My recent thoughts on the matter is I do not care. Most of us spend good money on our systems, and when a small amount of money and time is spent for an improvement(must make a difference to determine if it is an improvement),I will mention it. Kev313, OB, I believe you are both behind me as to "what I hear". Thank you. To those others of you, I take back the Qtip statement. You can all buy your own. Just remember: rolling tubes in amps/preamps and changing caps in crossovers is all along the same lines as to what I am talking about(with maybe a bit more "witchcraft"). Till the next time.
  4. Congrats on your price for the M22. I am not surprised. It is a fine amp!
  5. It is quite unfortunate that some of you need to make fun. I am simply convinced that unless you have tried these tweaks and have listenened for yourself, you have nothing to say to me that makes me feel like I am a looney. Quite the contrary. I will, for all of you birthdays, send you a box of Qtips, as well as a Green marker, just so you can try it. This is the most unprofessional Forum that I belong to. I am a part of this forum because I happen to enjoy, every day, my Lascalas. The only reason!. If none of you want me here, just give the word. I have never made of of anyone if they "do not hear the difference". Believe me, there are many listeners in "my camp". All I am doing is sharing with you my own "listening" experiences. Continue poking fun. Believe me, I am the one who is laughing!
  6. wow - pray tell the physics behind that one! You are obviously affected by placebo. But here's one to humor myself....would your green marker CD sound better or worse than a hard drive replacing the role of the CD transport?
  7. Two other great guitarists, in my opinion, were Roy Buchanan, and still today, Jeff Healey, who btw, is blind, which makes him even more incredible, imho.
  8. Many people would agree with that Jimi H was the greatest. He is up there for sure!
  9. If my memory serves me correctly, I was with Innovative Audio, in Brooklyn, between 88 and 92. Before that I was with Grand Central Radio on 45th St. in Manhattan. Besides selling, I did system/room design and set up. We might have crossed paths, but, it is a pleasure to know you online! Buy the way, with a few tweaks, The M22 amp could sound quite good on Klipsch. If I had the money right now I would take it off your hands. You get close to your asking price if it is mint shape.
  10. Speakerfritz, I am 1st noticing you live in Staten Island. Until 10 years ago when we moved to Florida, I lived in Staten Island, off Marsh and Richmond Ave.(near the mall). I worked at a few High end HiFi shops in the NY area and am wondering if we know each other or had some personal contact related to audio.
  11. Coda, thanks for the heads up! Just ordered it on line.
  12. OB, as you should know by now, there are several reasons we(the forum members)do the "upgrade" thing we do. For myself, it is to capture every little bit of information that is on my silver(cds, dvds)and black(vinyl)discs. Radio listening as well. I understand all the extremes that are being taken to get us to the next level. The way that I look at my recorded music is in itself a "performance". Some of course are "produced" better than others, but to get the best out of it is rewarding when listening. Case in point. Sinatra "Duets" on cd. It is the amazing technology of the recording process itself that brought Ole Blue Eyes together with all of these other greats, as a tribute to him. To hear Bono and Sinatra together(any of them, actually) is a great listening experience. I am a huge Sinatra fan, which helps in the enjoyment. I enjoy the older Sinatra recordings going back to the "Capitol" days even more. A system of fine quality can capture the experience of being there as opposed to a "boom box"(I am not saying it is as good as being there).. I listen to a boom box as well, during different moments in my life. But these moments are not the same as when I sit and listen. Another favorite recording of mine is Jethro Tull's Aqualung. It is, in my opinion, only a fair recording. But on my system, to me, it is quite captivating. It is dynamically constricted, but I get some good out of it. Speakers, amps, sources, wires and cables, equipment isolation, the room etc., all play a part in the "retrieva of information". Although Hendrix and Jim Morrison are no longer, I have the "recordings" to allow me to "get together" with them, in the comfort of my own home. Some of the members have dissected their Klipsch to become something else. If, to them, it brings them closer to the listening nirvana, why not. Rolling tubes, more power, biamping, you name it. It is to take us to the next level. There always is a next level. I have heard many extreme systems that sound just ok to me(bad in fact). I have heard some simpler systems which really "grabbed" my attention to sit and listen more. Again I am running my mouth, I am sorry. I am trying to explain the mentality of most of the forum members, unless I am alone. Please speak up out there.
  13. I agree with Russ. There are people indicating they hear little or no difference between "players". I also agree with Russ that differences do occur. This is a perfect post for me to mention this again. Take a cd you think is "bright" sounding. Take a green(preferred by me) or black permanant magic marker and, carefully, go along the inner and out edge of the cd. There is a science to doing this so you do not get marker all over you, and the non edges of the cd. Give a listen to the cd afterwards. Lets us all report your findings here. It will make a good discussion. A real eye opener( I mean ear opener).
  14. If you all would look at BECs response, you will see it has been done.
  15. So as I am working on another amp I just received off Ebay, and, listening to a Jazz station on XM radio(#850,supplied to me with my Direct TV), an recorded interview with Herbie Hancock comes on. Almost word to word, he says:" Miles was the coolest cat, the coolest of all the cats. He taught me to be relaxed, daring, honest with my inner most feelings, and, to capture the moment. For when I do, I enjoy playing more".
  16. Just a question for those listening with a center, for music. Is this center channel driven in mono. When a stereo recording is set in mono(based on equipment/hookup, and my experiences), there seems to be a loss of ambience and air around the instruments thru this channel that, compared to the L/R, is less exciting overall. What about using 2 centers driven in stereo mode, giving the center fill, without this loss I am speaking of(unless I am the only one who feels this way). For those of you who have a stereo/mono switch on your preamps/receivers, or whatever, take a stereo recording and switch it to mono, you will hear it! Although the center speaker "fills the gap" between the Khorns, is it, or not, the same information? Just curious.
  17. There are so many "Great Ones! I am a huge Satriani fan, as I have stated many times on this and other forums. The latest Joe Satriani "Live" dvd, recorded 2006, shows this guy as a real virtuoso. The sound, to me, is only OK(recording quality, not the playing), unlike his others. But if you watch this man, he can do it all. I am not saying he is my favorite, but he is, for me, up there with the best. Remember, this post was about "watching and listening" to the top 20 guitar performances.
  18. I do not know if you would call this "random" playing, but one musician I have a hard time getting into is Mr. Eric Dolphy. I have not heard his entire repitoire, but what I have and what I have heard is really out there.
  19. The Tice technology happened to be applied to a clock, first, because the clock was relatively inexpensive. They had other "treated" products. I actually like what the TPT does. I know people who do not. I know people who do not distinguish the difference. As I say on this forum many times, hear for yourself, then decide. I remember when tube rolling 1st started(a long time ago). No one would believe it. Read the threads and tell me it is snake oil. If you trust your ears, and the listening conditions are controlled and familiar, differences are audible. Whether it is better to you or not, that is a different story altogether. If the differences are not audible, well......
  20. Please don't shoot me. I have heard the difference, but it always sounds better without the fuse in line(not saying the fuses should not be used). I do not own these $30. fuses.
  21. I will not even consider getting statred on this thread(when I do, the thread seems to END).
  22. (This was a great video). The point, however, was an opinion of the 20 most "enjoyable" guitar performances, as noted by guitarists. This forum is always based on opinions. Someone writes in for an amp recommendation, speaker recommendation, etc., we are all giving opinions. We all have our top 20. Can we all agree on on a top rock album(classical,jazz,etc.). This is what makes us different than other mammals on the planet, our individuality. Take a look at the thread of the most beautiful girl(woman) in the world. You want to see " individuality". Enjoy!
  23. Parrot, I will try and keep this short and simple. A long long time ago in a Galaxy far away(Ok, seriously). I was introduced to a Japanese gentleman(he was with Nakamichi)who shared with me(and others) some things that had to do with vibration and resonance in electronics. He took 2 samples of a thin stranded double sided p iece of copper wire, connected them, internally, to the output terminals of an amp, (an amp he brought over from Japan, no name)and drove a set of Stax headphones(my 1st experience with Stax phones). We listened to music(open reel at I think 15ips), monophonically. He then took a liquid(I recall it smelling similar to nail polish)and applied it to one side only along this 6 inch piece of wire. After a few moments, we listened again. The earpiece being driven by this channel sounded warmer, lusher, quicker, had more air around the instruments, the frequency extremes had more extension, etc. He explained that the wire was no longer in a state of eratic behavior and movement(the wires had a shield around them, similar to regular lamp cord. I was blown away at this. So I started to tinker with this theory. I isolated power transformers in everything from amps, preamps, tuners, tape decks, turntables, you name it.This is way pre cds. I had quite a few turntables(AR,Thorens,Garrard, Dual, etc). Purchased a Technics DD and was the 1st(at least that I knew of) mortiting the underside of the platters to tame the noise. I used mortite around the circuit boards, but soon realized this was not good when it got hot. I started using silicons that were available. The differences in the way the equipment sounded afterwards was "musical". All the attributes of what I heard with Mr. Nakamichi. Currently, I only use clear GE silicone sealant, series II. I have also applied this, conservatively, to some "chips" in cd players, dvd players(being careful not to over heat these devices), being quite amazed at the differences, for the better, in sound. I apply it to the input wires and output wires inside amps, preamps, again you name it. With some work, it is all reversable. But I never had a friend or customer, as well as my own pieces, to reverse the process. I began isolating the entire chassis from the shelf it sat on(way before Michael Green was around), and look at him now(I am sure he did not copy me, I never met the man). My silver speaker wire is wrapped in l layers of shrink tubing, they are "lifted" of the ground. Same as my interconnects, and I am critical of "dressing the backs of equipment racks, keeping electrical runs away from signal runs. I am a nut about this. I try and use materials, such as dynamat, to further isolate all the chassis components, as well as my famous "feet", which I have mentioned many times before. My friend has a friend with an "out of warranty" Denon av receiver. My friend tell his friend about me. I typically do not like doing receivers, because they are so "stuffed", but this one was easy to do. For a small fee and the cost of parts, he is quite happy. I showed him what to do, but he wanted me to do it. I only do this locally, it is not a "business" as all it is , is a tweak service. You can look inside many pieces today and see silicon applied throughout, as well as dampening sheets, adhesive foils to eliminate emi, rfi, 50/60 hz hum, etc. There are many internet sites that sell alot of this, and Home Depot/ Lowes, etc. has some great stuff too(I do not recommend the product Great Stuff for any of this). I meant great materials. Anyway, this is my story...................................................................Dan
