  1. Sorry it has been a long time but things are hectic with a new house. Anyway, I am still seeing this problem. I had a friend over the other day and it was making the noise and removed the manual for it which I had sitting on top (of the receiver) covering some of the vents and the noise tapered off after a moment. It is not 100% reliable, but fanning into the vents in the top seem to help most of the time. How can a brand new HK be overheating?!? Am I screwed?
  2. Interested in selling the sub separate?
  3. Thanks for all the responses! I have not had much time to investigate lately. The problem seemed to go away when I moved the receiver away from the other components but after a couple days it was back (but fainter than before) and today after work it was back in full force. It was as loud as ever today while watching tv. The room is in the basement/lower level of our new house. The oil furnace is through a wall relatively close to the setup. I don't think it happens every time the furnace runs but am not positive (it provides out hot water so it runs year round). I have mostly high quality cables with the exception of the sat to rec cable which is a fairly high gauge no-name rca bundle (L,R,vid): rec to speakers: monster wire w/ monst connectors rec to TV: component dvd to rec: component, dig coax sat to rec: rca bundle (red, white, yellow) Could this cable cause a prob? I have yet to hear it while watching a dvd but the wife says she has seen the problem during dvd operations. [We never turn the sat box off] Disconnecting this cable did not stop the buzzing noise. Today when I was hearing the buzz again, I moved the speaker cable to the RH front channel and the noise stopped (coincidence or not, I do not know). Also, I have the tv power cable plugged into the rec and the rest of the power cord run to an APC surge protector. **I JUST REMEMBERED: I had to get one of those stupid Radio Shack remote wireless phone systems for the sat box which requires a phone jack. The sender/source is upstairs and the receiver is right next to the HT. What does it use? RF, I think. Maybe that is the problem?? I need to unplug it the next time we get the buzz in the HT.
  4. There are no halogen lights in the room. It sounds like a typical feedback with noise in the signal. I guess a cross between the bee and snake. It does not occur 100% of the time but when it does happen, it continues for anywhere from 30 sec to 10 min. **Update: I moved the receiver away from the tv, dvd, and sat box and have not heard the sound in 2 days. Hopefully, it was noise from 1 or all of the above and the problem is solved. Anybody else seen this issue?
  5. Yes, the RC-25 sounds great when it's not producing this static noise. I guess moving the other components away from the receiver is the next step. I hope my HK isn't hosed! Any other ideas about the source of this problem?
  6. Hey everybody- Have had my first HT system up and running now for almost a month. I have noticed a disturbing problem though. I am getting an intermittent buzzing/static sound through all speakers. I started with the RF-15s and recently added the RC-25 (the problem was present before and after the addition of the center channel). The sound cuts in during tv shows and remains for anywhere from 30 sec to 10 min. It's the audio version of a snow-storm on the screen (the actual sound is very faint in the background but cranking the vol would be way too much static). It is independent of the surr sound mode on the receiver, volume, tv channel. Turning the power off and back on does not help. My wife says she has had the problem while watching a dvd also, but I have only seen it with our dish network box providing the signal. We just moved so the setup is only temp with the receiver literally next to the TV (32" Toshiba) where they are almost touching and dvd and cable box are stacked on the receiver. Is it a shielding problem? Receiver is a HK AVR 340 brand new.
  7. Catharsis147, where in NY are you? I am in CT.
  8. Is there anything else comparable to the RC25 (in case I can't find one)? Also, is there a significant difference between the KSW10 and KSW12?
  9. One thing I forgot - I was thinking about speaker connections- maybe banana plugs? what do people recomend? thanks
  10. OK, so it's not really a HT with just 2 speakers but it's on the way! I'm really excited!! I got a good deal on a pair of RF-15s (I realize they are bottom of the Ref line, but they are Ref). I also bought a HK AVR 340. I am now looking for a center channel, sub, and surrounds (probably in that order). I was thinking about center: maybe an RC-25 if I can find one in my price range sub: KSW10 or KSW12 surround: no ideas They will come, slowly but surely. I do not want to skimp on the center but the 25 may be overkill - I would like to hear some opinions. Thanks
  11. Are the 20's still for sale? I am close enough to pick them up.
  12. I was considering those 30's in NY that were in questionable shape. Anybody care to comment on used klf-30's that may or may not be beat up?
  13. Can anybody compare HK 3xx/4xx with a comparable Denon product (maybe a 38xx)? I need a receiver on a budget.
  14. I am starting from the ground up... pair of Synergy SF-1s Now, the next step to find a receiver that will fill them out. I am leaning toward HK or Denon from research and past experience. The SF-1 are rated at 100 W by Klipsch. I know I don't want the fanciest megawattage unit but I was thinking since I don't have a fancy HDTV, maybe a used receiver like a HK AVR 3xx (335,330,etc). I would like to have outputs for a second room and the ability to handle most DVD audio. I am not so worried about the video perf (I know I'm not investing in HDMI stuff very soon). I am not quite as familiar with the recent Denon product lines- would a 3801 be comparable to a HK 3xx or 4xx? Thanks for any advice! BTW- saving dinero on the receiver leaves room for the needed center channel and sub (I hope) but that's probably another post...
  15. This is it: http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=28
  16. I just want to know if this is some mystery model that gets offloaded to China while retaining the company name.
  17. Anybody using these? The price seems pretty low. Are these good for entry-level setup? Thanks
  18. Thanks for the response! What are my connectiviuty options for the 4.1 system and a decent quality receiver? The input to the setup is a couple of headphone-jack style connections (1 for front, 1 for surround, I assume). Am I stuck using a pc with my HT in order to use these speakers? Thanks
  19. Hey folks, I recently got out of college and moved on the to the real world. I have always been a big Klipsch fan but have never had the dollars to spare to get into them[] (I grew up with a Dad who had a nice NAD amp/preamp setup but multimedia has passed him by now). The only exception was a Promedia 4.1 system I recieved as a gift a couple years ago. I know this has been asked before, but I am looking for the latest and most up-to-date advice about adapting the promedia setup to a home theater/reciever. I do not have a reciever yet b/c I'm kinda waiting for technology to slow if possible. I'd like to see an HK with HDMI inputs/outputs (maybe that's already out there) but that's another story. My dilemma now is: Can I use these speakers (with the addition of a center channel) with a HT? ... or should I leave them with the computer? The sub would be great for a HT IMO. It would be nice if I do NOT have to start from scratch- ie needing all speakers and a reciever. Also, if the brains of this system (RH and sub) will not work, can I use the 2 sats (with the headphone style minijacks) as sats in a HT or do they need to stay with the 4.1 system? I post here in HT b/c I want a HT perspective: what, if any, sound quality will I see with these speaker as opposed to a normal HT setup. Thanks for any and all advice!
