  1. Ironically, I said earlier that the USB out on my laptop to a Turtle Beach Toslink (optical output) could not control the volume, turns out, once my computer did a restart, the volume buttons now work with the optical output. (I don't totally understand why that works with a digital out, to a analogue converter, but it does)... But the Sony Bravia Toslink doesn't have the ability to regulate volume. I'm currently working on a raspberry pi or Eduwardo workaround to give me a remote volume control... But I'm not a programmer, so this may be a pipe dream for me. But, before I attempt this, I'm going to try to get my television to 'talk to', or send a hdmi signal from it, to my laptop, then my laptop will pass through the signal (via optical out, to the DAC converter) then it should have volume control on the keyboard, but still not on the TV remote. I use a wireless laptop on my coffee table, so this wouldn't be a huge inconvenience, other than I won't be able to adjust the center, rear, or sub outputs without going to the master controller for the Pro Media 5.1. Obviously there isn't much interest in integrating old tech to new tech, gauging from the lack of interaction on this thread, so I'll probably discontinue any further additions to this thread.
  2. Update: The digital converter works perfectly. However, not without some disadvantages. Namely, no remote control for volume. Which makes sense. I'm using a USB 'Turtle Beach' TOSlink optical out of the laptop into the DAC. Also using a Optical into the DAC. Therefore, volume must be controlled by the Promedia on the analogue side. And this unit is older, and designed to be used at a computer desk, well within arms reach for volume adjustment. Not sure if later models came with a volume remote or not, would be good if there was that option. Other issue (of just inconvenience) there's a separate button to move from line 1 (laptop) and line 2 (television) that must be manually changed when going from one source to the other. I was hoping to leave it on line 2 and pass through the television so I wouldn't have to change to line 1 every time I wanted to use the computer. Although, there may be a adjustment on the television settings to allow for that, since I'm using a HDMI to go from the laptop to the television. Just haven't figured it out yet. I'm really liking this setup, as it's very small in size and wall mount kits are inexpensive and readily available on amazon. Now, I have to make a bracket below the television to hold the center speaker under the television as I have it wall mounted on a swinging bracket and I'd like the speaker to point where the television is pointing. Anyone got any ideas on a way to connect a volume remote to this particular setup?
  3. Hunting around on Amazon, I think I may have solved my problem, but I'm not sure, so I'd like some confirmation that I'm on the right track. https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Converter-Channel-Decoder-Optical/dp/B07X94PF4D/ref=sr_1_14?crid=3H5LW402DHID9&keywords=dac+audio+converter+dolby&qid=1673908603&sprefix=dac+audio+converter+dolby%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-14 If I get a set of RCA L/R to stereo minijack, I think this will work, because I can use the digital optical to connect to the DAC.
  4. Hello all, Been a long time since posting. But I have a question for techies here. I recently upgraded by laptop to a ASUS Zepherus M16, and a Sony Bravia 65" 4K television (no it's not the OLED), and I purchased a Klipsch refurbished ProMedia 2.1 from Klipsch. I'm having a bit of a problem here. Quite frankly, I can't hear the voice dialogue on movies, unless I turn the volume up so loud that when there are other sounds, like explosions, it blows us out of the room. I've tried the factory installed speakers in the Sony Bravia (didn't think they'd be any good anyway. Tried the Klipsch 2.1 (a little better, but still not acceptable), and a friend gave me some cheapo soundbar, with no Sub. (it's terrible) So, I got on the ole' Facebook Marketplace, and Low and behold, I saw it! Something I've been wanting for... forever. Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 for a mere $60.00 and it was local... My thought here is that I can run the center channel a little hot for dialogue and tame the surrounds down... I'm sure it's going to work great... IF I can figure out how to connect the darn thing to my current system. You see, the ProMedia Ultra 5.1 is analogue only. I need 3 minijacks to plug into the input of the Klipsch sub. L/R, L/R rear, Center/Sub. but neither my computer nor television has compatible outputs. I have a single minijack headphones (that I'm using the 2.1 right now. But I don't think they make a 3 way splitter for that application (and I don't think it would be in 5.1 anyway, just stereo. I have a extra HDMI on both the laptop and the television, but I'd need some kind of DAC to minijack to make that work. Any economical recommendations? I have USB ports on both television and laptop, so the same would apply. I think USB bypasses any surround sound processing anyway, and I'd definitely need a stand alone processor there too. and it could have a optical port too because both TV and laptop have optical outs on them. I do have a old Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II USB to stereo minijack or optical... Is it possible to somehow get that to work to make the 5.1 work? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Congratulations to a Forum member on adopting the Forte's...
  6. I've still got some things to sell, so back to the top it goes...
  7. After stumbling around the house, I just spyed another gem. I've got an older 1999 or so, Orion 10" dual voice coil subwoofer, in a small angled box for behind a pickup truck seat. It has never been installed and right now it's being used as a short table for a filter on my saltwater fish aquarium experiment. So make me an offer on that one.
  8. Holy cow, after reviewing my prices on the nakamichi cassette deck, I see I'm crazy overpriced. This thing is "like new" but it's from circa 1990, and I see they are only bringing about $100.00. So, consider it repriced.
  9. I just remembered, I also have a set of "bucking magnets" that I bought from klipsch, for magnetic shielding unshielded speakers, but never installed them in anything. Probably not necessary with today's new style televisions, but if someone needs them, I have them.
  10. Ok, I just realized (through a PM asking what else I had for sale) that I'd like to throw this out there. I can't post anything other than audio gear on this site. But I have a ton of other stuff for sale. You see I'm moving and nearly everything has to go. So, I am into hot boating, dirt track racing, and lots of really nice furniture and yard equipment. If you are currently looking for basically anything OMC, or Chevrolet, kubota, PM me and ask. Hope this post doesn't violate the terms of the forum. If it does, feel free to remove and I apologize in advance.
  11. Ok, The Sunfire stuff is sold The Chorus's are sold. The Heresy 1's are sold. Teh SW10-II is sold.
  12. I have multiple items for sale, some still have the boxes, some not. I'm not too hip on packing for final shipping though, I'd prefer local pickup (mid Missouri). I will however box the ones I have boxes for and take them to a local shipper and you can deal with them about getting them shipped safely...I just don't want the liability of possible damage. Ok, On with what I have...If anyone is seriously interested in these items, for the price I'm asking, I'll provide final pictures of them, upon request, to verify that the condition is exactly what I say it is...Do I really need to post pics of the same speakers over and over, we all know what they look like, don't we? 13. Kind of an interesting read, as I listen to my 1985 TELARC version of HOLST "The Planets", On my relatively Noisy ADCOM 6000 GTP amp with my paultry Heresy II's mains and Herey rears, and a simple KV-1 center. Amazing when the timpanii hit several times and my pant leg vibrated against my shin. Is TELARC still remastering "masterpieces"?
  14. Directly IN YOUR FACE, with as much power as you can afford to own!!!
  15. One downside to raising the Heresy line off the floor (even a few inches) causes the reason they were named "Heresy" ineffective. The bass diminishes almost immediately. Might I suggest a set of angled risers if you desire the Horns to be "IN YOUR FACE".
  16. I installed the reclock software and set it as the website suggested, but now I get absolutely NO sound from windows media player. I can't find a tutorial and I'm frustrated at this point. Is there something I'm missing?
  17. A little update. I managed to get the computer running on the HT this evening, Internet WiFi works great. I did not change any hard drive, or Ram memory yet, as I wanted to see if the internet speed was acceptable as is. Sadly, it is not, video's freeze every few seconds or so, even if I let the video download for a while before starting it. Also, Ripping speed of Cd's (in WAV format) on that old machine is torturously slow. I guess I could steal the two 128Mg Ram Cards out of the Office computer and triple the Ram in the media server, while still leaving 1gig Ram for the office. Shouldn't that be acceptable for the office and help some of the issues on the media server? Also, the NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card has a S-video output on it, and the advertisements from NVIDIA claim that it has dual moniter capabilities, If your graphics card can handle it. (I have this on the office computer and love it, with a NVIDIA GeForce 5200). Apparantely the Media computer must not have a graphics card capable of handling dual screens as only either the moniter works or the TV, not both. This wouldn't be so bad, accept the resolution on my old Sony XBR 36" TV is not high enough (with S-video) to be able to read the text on the screen. Text is just a blur. Also, the graphics card has re-sized the screen down to about 32" and I cannot find an adjustment to allow the screen to fit the TV. I'd like to maintain a smaller moniter off to the side of the Sony TV to make adjustments on the fly, or reading emails while watching Netflix on the larger screen. I can remember, years ago, I had the same issue with the Office computer being hooked to the Sony and had the same clarity with text issues, so I may be stuck with needing a smaller moniter to do the internet surfing anyway. I would really like to use this feature, as the internet Opera operating system for the Wii just plain sucks, even with a keyboard. Any thoughts on what to look for in the used market for a different Graphics card and possibly a different video card, maybe one that supports component video, instead of the marginal S-video quality. I don't have anything capable of HDMI at this time. I still haven't decided on which route to go with on the hard drive issue. I do like the idea of leaving the 80GB one in the media server and just use that for the windows operating system, and maybe either using the Office computer as the actual media storage and just set the files to sharing and have the wifi transfer them to the media server, or is there a loss of quality there? there shouldn't be, as it's just a bunch of ones and zero's.
  18. I really do not know much about what you speak of so I searched what a FLAC files was in Google and this popped up, apparantely someone has written a program to convert them, don't know anything else about it though. http://www.simplehelp.net/2008/06/12/how-to-play-flac-files-in-itunes/
  19. Thanks for the input, I have a few followup questions: Again, thanks for the input so far.
  20. Well, Snow is flying and nothing really to do, so I've got the idea to screw around and CREATE a media server on the ultra cheap (READ Clearly: Spare parts ONLY). I'm not interested in buying anything unless absolutely necessary, and then will venture into the used market first. I'm looking for recommendations on which way to head with this project. Here's what I'm currently using: Home Theater (living Room): Chorus mains, Academy Center, Forte rears. Sunfire Theater Grand II , Sunfire signature Cinema Grand Amp Old Sony 5 disc DVD Carousel 1999 model Sony XBR 36" 4:3 CRT style television W/ digital converter box Wii Game station WiFi for NETFLIX and gaming Office Computer: ADCOM GTP-550 Pre/tuner ADCOM GFA6000 Amp Nakamichi CR-1A Cassette player (rarely used) Pioneer 6 Disc CD changer Yamaha 5+1 CD changer (currently needing repair, have parts to fix just not motivated) Heresy II's for mains, Heresy's for rears, KV-1 center, SW10-II sub Dell Diminsion 8300 from 2003, With Pentium 4 dual core: 4CPU 2.8 GHz 1GB ram Card + 2- 128 Mb cards 300GB internal hard drive, 300GB external hard drive (bought for backups, but too stupid to make it work correctly) NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video card, this thing has two moniter outs, and has separate dual screen capabilities, I have two moniters currently (drag and drop to the other screen makes it convenient. Creative Audigy Audio Processor and card (analog out doesn't work correctly), but does have digital out SPDIF (not used right now because ADCOM GTP-550 doesn't have Digital in Capability. Turtle Beach Micro II USB analog & Digital Audio Adapter (DAC) 1-DVD Reader 1-DVD writer Wireless mouse and keyboard USB hub 2- old style pin connector mouse and keyboards Linksys 54G Wireless Router/ Tomato Operating system (don't know much about Tomato, it came installed when I bought the Router Used) Proposed Media Server: I have a Dell 8100 Pentium 4 single core 1500MHz, 2- 64Gb Ram cards. Internal Wifi card (I removed it from the 8300 already and installed it into the 8100, as the 8300 is hardwired to the Router) Single Floppy 3.5" Single CD reader 80 Gb hard drive NVIDIA GeForce2 MX with S-video TV out 32MB Creative Audio PCI soundcard with analog stereo out. Here's what I am wanting to do: I am willing to scavage parts out of my Office computer, as long as it doesn't compromise the current configuration, to make the best possible media server out of the older 8100 computer that I have. Example: Since I'm using the Turtle Beach USB DAC and not using the Creative Soundblaster Card, and I have digital in on the Sunfire Theater Grand II, I believe I could swap cards in the two computers without affecting my Office computer. Or am I missing something? I also wonder if it would compromise my office computer if I removed the two 128Mb RAM cards and installed them into the 8100, leaving me with 1 GB RAM in the office computer and bumping up the Media server from 128MB RAM to 376MB RAM. Would this compromise the Office computer's speed enough that I'd notice it, and would the increased RAM in the Media server benifit, since it's only got a 1500MHz single core processor, or is this computer so slow it wouldn't matter. Or, is it even necessary considering the fact that it will only be using one program at a time (I.E. windows media player, Itunes, Internet explorer). It won't have multiple programs running at any one time. Also, would it be better to remove the 80 Gig hard drive and install the 300 Gig hard drive into the media server computer, or leave it as an external hard drive (USB connector only, no firewire), Or leave the external hard drive connected to the Office computer and use the Wireless router to share files off the Office computer, and use it that way. I'm not really up on the technology, but I'm competent at installing parts into a computer and making it work. Just not wanting to screw up my office computer (business files) to make a toy. RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE.
  21. first there is a distinction between forte and forte II, just as there is a difference between Chorus and Chorus II. All are excellent speakers, though the II version of both have a different mid horn and are said to be "better". The only other difference between Chorus and Chorus II is that the Chorus II is like the forte's in they have a passive radiator instead of being ported like the chorus. The forte's seem to do very well with mimimum power, as do the Chorus. But, if you want to add serious power, go with the Chorus versions, they absolutely come ALIVE with serious power. I use 450 WPC continuous and they are impressive. The forte's don't seem to respond as much from large amounts of power.
  22. Just received a Micro II through Wal-Mart. Com. Site to store delivery. NO $10.00 shipping. Works perfectly. Thanks again.
  23. I don't think this is what I'm looking for, I want a CD/DVD that has DIGITAL INPUTS. From what I see, it only has outputs on the unit.
  24. Thanks for all whom have replied so far. The above is appealing to me as this computer is 9 years old now. Can anyone tell me if they've used this product, or this company and are they reputable, I'd like to know before I give them my credit card #.
