Well First I do listen at concert hall levels at times, second I am in a room that is 900 square feet, huh? What did you say? and yes it is overwhelming when I crank it like that and yes I have seen levels of 110-112 and higher, and my hearing might not be what it should, but 15 years playing in bands 25 years ago could have something to do with it also. If I could overcome the defincies of the square room, the sound as it is will take your breath away and I guess the reason I live on 2.5 acres with no neighbors

Thanks for the feedback. In the room as it is I do have a Belle for a center fill and I sit back at about 24 feet. Granted if I slide my chair forward about 5 feet it sounds a lot better. The perfectly symtrical square is more of an issue, why I am considering dividing the room. Standing waves are quite prominate. Also I find the meters on my McIntosh MC7300 hanging around 100+ watts if i really want to fill the room. I was hoping to find out 18 to 19 feet wide to be acceptable because that would still leave a nice size room out the leftovers and I wouldn't have to deal with existing ceiling lights or doors and windows. Ok, here is another idea I had while typing this, If i put backs on the Khorns, do they really sound as good out of the corners as they would if in the corners? I could then move one in about 8' - 9' and could also toe them out so I could still sit back 24 or so feet

Hiya Who, The vaulting goes up in the shorter dimension, Khorns amongst other speakers. Actually here is the scenario. The room is currently 30' square. I want to divide it, I was thinking somewhere between 17' and 19' wide. The vault is currently perfectly even with the peak in the middle so divided the vault would be 15' rise and then the remainder sloping downward. Using this room as a sound room/theater was an after thought after building. Speakers and screen on a short wall, seating at the other end. Square doesn't cut it (too symmetrical ) and even with khorns it takes a lot to fill it.

What would be the ideal width for a room that is 30' long for the best overall accoustics. Vaulted ceiling (one direction) and carpeted Just Curious

I agree with Mark on this one, where is the facts to back up the claims, where are the numbers? but then we don't listen to claims or numbers, we listen to sounds. Through the last 18 pages there were references to live performances. Well unless you are referencing a strictly acoustic instrument live performance, that is not accurate either because anything electric and you are listening to 1 persons idea (the engineer) of how HE thinks it should sound, which might not agree with the next guy. if the enginer is being considered as the reference then why do half the recordings out there sound so bad aka "poor recordings". Music, audio systems and just about anything else falls into the same category as religion . believe what you want to believe, listen to what makes you feel good and leave everyone else to do the same. if you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it. It doesn't make it bad and no... I personally do not own 901's

output impedance is only stable with a single frequency and a resistive load. Funny I have always considered my tube gear to be smoother, more mellow, more warmer and lifelike than SS. My autoformered McIntosh has almost the same "tube" sound, not like standard SS, so there might be a correlation with impedance, but i don't see where age has anything to do with it other than maturity and wisdom Knowledge is good, knowledge is being booksmart.... practical application and experience, it takes years to gain experience and that equals WISDOM

Do yourself a BIG favor and take it to a certified Mac shop. Mac amps need Mac parts. The 2125 is a sweet amp. The blue filters do fade in time if exposed to direct sunlight for any length of time. Nothing like those big blue eyes. the 2125 was the second generation of Mac SS and the first with power guard (if memory serves correctly)

But since you are on a Mac platform

Because of the single digit temps we have in the winter, the pond is 12' long 7' wide and 5.5' deep. Our frost line here is 32 inches. I have 3 Koi, they started as little 3" fish and are now 26" in a 125 tank, I have a couple other "goldfish" that are 10 to 12" long as well. The next 1.5 ton of flagstone will go to doing a walkway to the other french doors and another couple more layers around the pond edge as we have critters here (racoons, skunks etc) that I am sure would love to have my koi for dinner. The flagstone "patio" if you will has a secondary purpose. In the summer we have monsoons and we can get several inches in a matter of hours. the mud is terrible, hopefully the stone and sand will help this year. Excuse the poor photography, and all the junk laying around, like I said I am not yet completed. A note on the weather station. It was a project in itself. All based on the Dallas semiconductor 1 wire technology and the lessons i learned just how strong the wind can be and what it can do to a 26' tower. I still have some calibrations to do to the solar sensor. I have been experimenting with different means of shading the the sensor s the UV is very high. I have it interfaced with my home automation system, giving me verbal weather reports every hour and updated reports on the systems Beta Brite LED sign every 12 minutes

I got tired of checking several local weather reports, each reporting something different, so I decided to put up my own. It has been up a couple months now. I have always had a big interest in the weather

Glad to hear so many of you are enjoying warm sunny weather, its been windy here in Flagstaff for the last 3 weeks, today the max average was 35 mph with gusts of 45 mph [] and I have been outside trying to finish my outside Koi pond and laying flagstone the last 3 weeks. my poor weather station tower has been taking a beating (Anyone who might be interested, I have a community service weather station at www.doneyparkweather.net )

Another perspective... Something I didn't see mentioned but will proceed with a big warning message " Don't do it unless you are sure you know what you are doing, and please be careful" For those with the large voltage swings, have you ever gone to your main breaker panel and checked to make sure all the screw terminals are tight? the connections on breakers do loosen in time, constant expansion and contraction from not only the outside temperatures but from the conductors themselves will loosen the conections causing noise, voltage swings and on demand current deprivation. Another place to look is the actual recepticle that the equipment is plugged into. Many track homes, the electrical contractor not only uses the cheapest materials but to save time using the recepticles that you just push the wire in the little hole in the back, very poor connection. Replace that recepticle wih a good backwire unit, where the screw actually tightens the wire against a solid surface. I see a lot of talk about voltage, but nothing of current, remember if the voltage goes up the current goes down and if the voltage goes down the current goes up. Another option would be to take some comparison voltage checks at your main panel, do you see the same swings as you do at the end point?

I use a McIntosh C39 preamp, it has a summed center channel output when in stereo mode. It doesn't distract from left right info but widens the sweet spot, with my khorns 30' apart, without the center just moving your head a few inches makes a difference, with the center channel you can move several feet and not notice a difference

Let's say your wife decided to go in and change the fuses while you weren't looking. Are you saying that you would immediately notice the change and would even identify it as the fuse? Dr. Who, Well said! I agree! As with any of these tweeks, there is a little truth in the overall concept (deeply buried) altho very exagerated and pushed well beyond the vortex of reality. Yes, wether it be the fuse or any connection in the power supply not making adequate contact and not allowing full current draw, the equipment's performance could minutely suffer, say on a musical peak. I would tend to think a better fuse holder might hold more validity, but in reality what your local power company is feeding your house to start with would nullify any noticeable effects a fuse might have to offer, I vote for Elk turds (we don't have moose in arizona)

The Marchand is a 24db/octave slope, the Khorns are stock,plans are for a Mac MC7300 on the bottom, Mac 240 for the mids and either a modified St70 for the tweets or other Mac, like a pair of MC50's. I also have a pair of 511b's I want to try. I want to also try just biamping crossing at the woofer/squaker point

Thanks for the heads up Dean, Humm I have a question then... I have a Marchand XM9 3 way electronic crossover with plans to try tri-amping my Khorns. I should be ok using those crossover points on my '97 khorns?

30' corner to corner, with a Belle center. I sit 24' back. I sit beyond the sweet spot, have a pair of 511b's waiting for me to try once I find some play time. I have also entertained putting backs on the khorns so i can toe them out slightly

They have recently released the "new" B3, Their website says it has 96 "digital" tone wheels whereas the original mechanical had 91, still has drawbars and functionaly the same. I couldn't find a technical description to see what they mean by 96 digital tone wheels. They still use the multi contact key switch as well to give the expressive key touch
