  1. Thanks Russ. Is $300 a reasonable price? Will it keep up with the LaScala's?
  2. Wow...No views or answers...moving this thread over to the 2-channel section.
  3. (I moved this thread from the subwoofer section.....too quiet over there.) Can this sub keep up with LaScala's in a 2-channel system? Looking to add a bit more depth. Thanks

  5. Tried the line level...no change. Still hummin along. Got an appt to take it to a repair shop, the guy has done some work for me in the past and said he will look at it free of charge to see if he can figure it out.Hope I can get this thing fixed. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
  6. Alright Dtel..this is the kind of thinking I was looking for! I have not even thought of that option. I'll try it when I get home. I have two line level inputs (L & R). I'll hook up a y-connector to the inputs and see what that does. Worth a try. Thanks.

  8. I'm trying to get a hold of the guy that sold me the amp, a Craigslist find. Have a feeling that will be a dead end.
  9. At this point I can rule out grounding issues. I can take the sub without any speaker connections and far away from any electronic devices, plug it in and it hums. I spent a couple Benny's on this thing and would like to get it working. What's my next option? Is it worth taking into an electronics repair shop?
  10. Put one on....no change to the hum. Tried it both ways with and without....hum sounds the same either way.
  11. Thanks for all your help. Got the sub connected via option 3, sounds great. However, dealing with a hum now. Started a new thread.
  12. I just picked up an SW12 today that has a humming noise issue. First I plugged it into a few outlets around the house and it would hum in every outlet. However, if I touched any one of the line level input jacks the humming would stop instantly and the sub would be dead silent. I remove my finger and the hum returned. Next, I decide to hook up to the amplifier and speakers. I turn on the sub (and no other components) of course the hum is there. I touch one of the input jacks...thinking the hum would go away...wrong...still humming. After leaving it powered on and no other components turned on for about 5 min, the hum goes away on its own. Looking for any ideas on how to fix the problem. Why would the hum go away when touching the line level jack with no high level connections. But after high level connections, touching the line level jack does, well "jack" the hum remains? Any problems leaving the sub on 24/7? Thanks guys for any help you can offer. Gary
  13. All three outputs are speaker wire outputs; capable of connecting 3 sets of speakers. They are simply labeled speaker #1, #2, #3. Currently I have Lascala's connected to the #1 and outdoor speakers to #3. I switch off any or all speakers with the push of a button. I figure I have three options of connecting the sub: Option 1 - connect the sub speaker wires to the speaker output of the amp (speaker #1) along with the Lascala speaker wires. Option 2 - connect the sub speaker wires to the second output terminals (speaker #2) of the amp. Option 3 - connect the sub speaker wires directly to the amp output (speaker #1) and connect the Lascala's to the sub speaker terminals. Which option will provide the most optimal sound? Thanks
  14. My mistake...nice catch. I meant output.
  15. I have a solid state Yamaha amp (M85) that I use in my 2-channel system. The amp has three speaker outputs. I have my Lascala's and a set of outdoor speakers connected to the amp. Can I simply connect the SW12 to the remaining speaker output?
  16. Thanks for the reply Noah. Based on your response, I am going to move forward on my purchase. What should I look for to make sure the sub is in good operating condition? Gary
  17. I feel the need for a bit more of a lower end to my 2-channel system. Will a SW-12 mate with the LaScala's? I prefer to have a tighter bass since this is a dedicated music system. Although I have not heard the SW-15, I am concerned that a big ole 15 inch sub may be too sloppy for music. Should I be concerned with the smaller woofer in the SW-12? Also, what's a reasonable price for the SW-12 in very good condition? Thanks much, Gary
  18. Thanks for the help Larry. The heybrook card worked perfectly and was very simple. Gary
  19. New to vinyl and have some dumb questions. I just got a Dynavector 10x5 cartridge and want to make sure I am mounting it to the arm (stock rb300) properly. How do you align the cartridge in the head. I'm not sure how far forward or back it should be mounted. Also...what tracking force works the best for you? Thanks much. Gary
  20. Thanks guys....I'll check into the Denon cartridge. Any comments re:using a bent needle on records. Am I going to cause any harm. Still sounds good. Just not sure if I need to put the cartridge to rest or not. Thanks
  21. I just noticed that the needle in my Dynavector 10x5 is not centered. Looks like it is bent to the right. Is this going to damage the records if I continue to use it? Also....is the sound compromised now? The cartridge is barely a year old.....bummed that I am going to have to spend a bunch of cash to fix it. My dilema is....FIx the Dynavector or buy a new cartridge. Looking for cartridge recommendations that will sound the best with my set-up. Budget is $300, and forget about low-output MC's. Can't afford to upgrade the preamp. My set-up - Rega phono, Peach, Tercel (in about a month), Yamaha M85 SS amp, LaScala's. Thanks.
  22. Thanks mark...appreciate the simplified explanation. Makes sense to me (now). Let me take another shot at how to get the best sound out of my set-up. Current set-up - Peach, Yamaha M85 amp, Njoe Tjoeb CD, Rega TT, and LaScalla's. To be added will be the marantz 2230. Objective is to listen to both vinyl and cd with little to no swapping of wires. What configuration will give me the best sound? Two system approach System #1 - Marantz 2230, Rega TT, and exchange speaker wires between system #2 System #2 - Peach, Yamaha amp, CD playerm and exchange speaker wire when not listening to viny. Or, is there a combo that can be created by inserting the 2230 into the current set-up? Thanks again. Still struggling to get my thoughts around this.
  23. They have "U" connectors between Pre Out and Main In on the rear. Pete---Nice vintage rig there! Thanks Mark. Looking like I am in good shape. However, time to start asking the real dumb questions. First - How do I make the connection to the amp? One cable or two? Can you provide a bit more information? Second - I have a Peach preamp. Is it possible to just use the 2230 as a phono preamp and connect to the amp through the Peach? Or is this too stupid? The main reason I bought the 2230 is so I can still listen to vinyl while I wait for my Tercel to arrive in March. However, I also enjoy the CD every once in a while. The amp is already hooked up to the speakers. It would be nice not to have to re-connect speakers to a different source to switch from vinyl to cd. Thanks for the help.
  24. Thanks for all the input. Can I hook up an external amplifier to this receiver?
  25. Some service was done ie, replaced bulbs, de-oxidized internal components. Based on your experience, I would base the range between $150 to $200 without wood case. Thanks for the input.
