TT for a "budget" vintage system - What are some good choices??
USNRET replied to tlarwa's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I agree with the SL-1200 but one word of caution may be that a LOT of these were used to DJ with, find one that wasn't in that environment. -
He knew or at least I think he did, don't believe he did any market research though. He was the original owner, purchased in Ca. His wife wanted those big ugly speakers gone. I thought it my civic duty to make his wife happy, I know I am[]
-
Nope, they are now residing in my man cave. Good deal ,huh?
-
Isn't it a little early for that bottle? Nah, it's Friday..which means that as soon as the boy gets off the XBOX I can fire up the vinyl. hey Tom, which way does that 1K note go?

CB you buy the LaScalas and when I bring the Belles up we'll compare. I had never heard either until I got these. BTW, I'm thinking that since I have Al's horns and crossovers on order that perhaps I should wait until I get them, leave in boxes and them you and I can install one at a time and debate the effect. SEEGARBUM is just too long to type you are now known to my family as CB.

You have another PM, these receivers were verified to be still available and lives about 15 minutes from me.
-
What a nice conversation! Thanks dude for a few minutes of the good life with the small talk. I finally realized that I wasn't thinking and didn't offer to bring the Pro_Ject RM 5SE turntable from my system; humble apologies begged. If you want to hear that brand/price range no problem can do. DO NOT FINISH THAT BOTTLE BEFORE I GET THERE! I assume that I will bring the Belles only as the Chorus IIs/ Quartets are not quite what we are sampling

Bob, you have a PM, forgot to give you my number. Reply if after reading the PM you need it. Mike

Hey CB, I have a line on a Pioneer SX 737 and a Marantz (darn can't remember the model; Quad receiver; have the info at work) at an estate sale close by. I have talked to the owner and I can get both for $100, you want to take a chance? Supposedly are in good cosmetics with cases and function. edit: I think it's this one http://www.classic-audio.com/marantz/4230.html

"RB or RS" What are you using for 7.1 rear surrounds
USNRET replied to southflorida's topic in Home Theater
My speakers have changed over the last 5 years as I have evolved but the RS-7s have served well as the sides always (Academy in front). Mostly because they were fitted there when I built the basement and there they remain. I have had Chorus IIs as mains with Quartets as rears and now have the Belles as LR mains, RS-7 sides and Chorus IIs as rears. I am able to program what speakers are in use with each de-coding logic in use. Not done toying yet but the sides and matrixed rears are in use in movies and when I have the desire with SACD I let the rears play without the sides. I can set levels in the side/reasr as A or B or A+B. Hopefully in my quest for a 5 Belle setup the RS/Quartets/Chorus/Hersey is and Academy will all lend a hand as barter. In my 18 x 26 room, with my setup, I really don't think 6 or 7.1 really makes a difference and that 5.1 or 5.2 is the way for me. Bottom line if I had to choose it would be RS for movie as they sound just fine with my Heritage and would go with RB/RF for music if I had the room. Lack of room I would think RS would be just fine, just me. -
Have I found Rosewood Original Forte's?????

NICE! -
If interested I have a couple of these left over. I use a wall wart 12vdc power supply in the switched outlet on one and a 12 vdc trigger on the other for control. http://www.nilesaudio.com/images/PDF/SPK-1_manual.pdf My main use is to have my Belles in use for the HT fronts powered by the Denon AVR and when I chose to listen to The McIntosh the same Belles are my stereo apeakers. Also 1 or 2 of these http://www.nilesaudio.com/images/PDF/AC-3_Cutsheet.pdf

Thanks, I am on my 3rd or 4th read of the process. I'm sure you will be hearing from me.

First, how the hell do you spell the plural? On a lark I placed an ad on a local chat group looking for Klipsch speakers. I got a response and picked up a set of 1980 H1s. The second owner told me that they had a problem and thought the "horns" were broken. Additionally, they were originally WOs but had been sprayed black. Ok, I picked them up last Friday and indeed they were WO/black and other than that they were in decent shape. I carried them around in my truck for a almost a week and today I had the chance to get them unloaded. I put them in the garage and hooked up a MAC 1700 receiver and Sony CD player to see had bad they were. Bad? I think not. Man they sounded great. I own several sets of Klipsch, most since new, and I was greatly impressed by these "old" speakers. To the guy that painted the WOs black: Man I wish you had not done that but it seems that you took care and there is no major dings. I took some 220 grit and knocked off some of the paint and the veneer looked OK. I am researching and learning the process of a sand/strip or venner job for my winter project. OK, this is getting long. Bottom line, these speakers sound really nice.

Denon receiver with RTA and automatic parametric EQ.
USNRET replied to VTXHOGG's topic in Technical/Restorations
I have found that my Denon AVR-4306 auto is quite a bit different than using the Radio Shack SPL meter and a PPA-3. I prefer the PAA settings; I use the Denon's on board eq to set the system to flat. -
My only suggestion is pick up an SMS-1 to go with it..... oopps, my mistake, forgot that your fancy one comes with the eq. OH and DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT set to reference levels (or maybe slighty [6]above) and then set up the DVD to start at the Darla taps aquarium scene on Finding Nemo. SVS=1; man cave mirror=0
-
Well Belles not LaScalas but I did have the same M&K sub until the wife graciously spent our refund on an SVS, see signature. There is no comparison between those two. I have only heard my own system with only not very good passive JBL control, the Miller & Kriesel and the SVS (I don't get out a lot)

Deleted by author, enjoy the show, not many store carries our favorite. My apologies to all, I got carried away. I got P.O.ed that day and haven't gotten over it. I'm done now. -
You just have to love good friends; Belles at last

No doubt BUT my DLP sits low AND another Belle is a dream... -

My main man here is a JBL guy but he found them and turned them over. His girl friend, who BTW enjoys music as much as us, sorta had a problem that he didn't grab and flip but in the end is a good person as well. They both understand my fetish. Humm, now I gotta fiqure out the next setup, does an Academy mix well with Belles? -

A buddy saw this ad http://atlanta.craigslist.org/ele/854737337.html and could not reach me at work. He took it upon himself to drive several miles out, take a look and buy them "FOR ME". I owe him the cost, gas and lunch. What a dude!!!!! I get them from him tomorrow.

I bought one last December, got maybe 15-30 minutes play time with it but never had the opportunity to calibrate my system with it (wife promises to one day take the kids out so I can seriously use it). Anyway, I powered it up the other day and the display now malfunctions. It's covered under warranty and the folks are very responsive just wondering if anyone has had display issues. Trend?
