  1. I'd love to "resurrect" my 10 year old Dell.... I would need a SSD that mimics IDE rather than SATA. Advise? Or gimme' a call and talk dirty!!!
  2. If you need to engage that "service" with a Visa card, then you have truly "arrived" in the modern world. If so, go ahead and ask for a "frequent flyer" discount? [6]
  3. You can do it!!! Easy day!!! http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/110684.aspx , Believe me it's easy!!! LOL!!!
  4. It is possible that the "05" refers to the production "run" since inception. Thus 05 would be run #5, and the rest of the serial codes follows MF's analysis. The problem with the "codes" is that they differed between the series, types and how Klipsch administratvely controlled the numbers. We have extensive data on the Heritage, but not the "others". Speakers made for export,or for the miitary PX/BX or Audio Club systems had variances that are still not "decipherable".
  5. I wanted to reserve comments on the RF pre route as they can get expensive. But that is a solution that, all else being equal, works. Insubstance, the most cost effetive way to approach the problem is to assume that the receiver is otherwise ok, and the issue can be solved with a good antenna. That usually works; if it does not, the other solutions discussed will probably solve the problem, and if solved, or at least resolved to some degree, a good antenna may be the "missing" part of the puzzle. Just a thought. [H]
  6. Sounds like the moderator may have a male appendage enlargement issue for Klipsch.... Insecurity, I say. I'dgo back and find other posts by others with "links" to other Forums and file complaints..... Just to stir it up...... LOL!!!
  7. Yah, after the article in the paper ran, we had a crap load of complaints from previous victims.... Sad..... They also complained about the white van folks in the Wal-mart parking lot....... []
  8. I was disspointed by the lack of any candidates from the "beer induced haze, party all night boom-box" category.......[] []
  9. also... there are forum members who are from this country who don't plainly speak English. Please disregard the fact that I am talking to you. Depends on..... the quantity of involved..... [6]
  10. The "home school" program in Florida has always faced the teacher's unions. The teachers will do anything to preserve their jobs, and numbers are the driving force. They also impugn home schooling as "racist" motivated, or religiously motivated and place any and all obstacles in the way they can. The only saving grace is that the home school kids are afforded the same "tests" as the conventional kids. And they usually score better. That drives the union folks crazy. But then again it's all about the money and preservation of a system that often sacrifices the kids in the name of "standardization"...... Mark, you do know that we have wandered off the reservation a bit.... ROL!!!!!
  11. Fender, Speaking of the mandolin...... There are two versions; the one you linked, and the BN3 model. More expensive, but appears to be somehwat more heavy duty. As you know I do alot of stir fry (my son will eat anything stir fried or grilled....), and the old 8" el cheapo sucks.... What do you think? http://www.amazon.com/Benriner-BN3-Slicer-Large/dp/B00032RZNK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
  12. funny story. Short version. Moved to cincy when I was 16. My cousin was about 25 and snuck me out to go drinking at the " pickle barrel" in Clifton. got trashed at about 1:00 am was asked by two of his female friends if I was hungry. Wound up at a skyline for the first time. Sitting there with two "cougars" lol. Asked what I want and I hadn't even looked at the menu. One girl then proceeded to ask a 16 year old his dream question. " would you like to have a three way? We love a three way! needless to say I was all bevis and butthead for the next two minutes!!!!! Uhhhhhh. Huh huh. Uhhhhhh. Yessssssss. I'm gonnaaaaaa SCORE!!!!!!!! all I got was a stinking plate of spaghetti with watery sauce and chesse!!!!! You were "mandolined"..... [6]
  13. Ditto on what Pete said. Good "insurance policy"
  14. Events to help kids are always a great thing to do. St. Judes is what my wife helps out. Best of luck, John and we hope you are successful in the fund raising.
  15. Sounds like a good alternative! Keep us posted on what you see.
  16. SF has a good point. Several years ago I burned my long distance phone calls budget and spoke with Warren Bendler (the Sansui "guru" -see sansui.us), and Tim Schwartz, Bristol Electronics (another "guru" on the vintage ss stuff). The short version was that unless something is wrong, or the amp is noted for crappy components, the cost vs benefit for changing stuff is usually not worth the time or cost. It's like buying esoteric cables, wiring, etc. It normally will never make a reasonable if noticeable difference in terms of the cost involved. Conversely.... the consensus was that as a matter of routine maintenance, at least when one has purchased a used ss vintage amp, that to have it tested by a competent technician is well worth the cost. My "sources" told me that 90% of what they "fix" are supposedly "perfect condition" amps sold on eBay and sometimes Audiogon. Usually, problems that are found that can be traced back to previous owner abuse, etc. That, and the worst thing that you can do with a vintage amp (or any other amp for that matter) is not use it and let it sit. Things dry out, and many caps, etc., will degrade if they are not brought to operating temperatures every once in awhile. Keeping the amp clean is, however, another matter. Many failures, according to the gurus (other than spilling stuff on them....) can be traced to dust bunnies accumulating in the chassis. If the dust "bridges" there will be a short, and and the short can cause catastrophic failure. They recommended a complete cleaning, pot and switch cleaning and lube, adjustment when a used amp is purchased. After that, about once a year, remove the chassis covers and blow out all dust with "clean air", or a compressor with dry air. They also recommended that all pots and switches be cleaned, de-oxidized, and lubed at least once every few years. More if you live in a high humidity area. Hope that is of some assistance.
  17. I hate it when good tubes go bad.... When they embrace the dark side, there's no going back for them.....
  18. Love it! Finally a redneck pro-sub..... []
  19. You actually do not need to worry about removing the old veneer. In theory, the paint should not have penetrated the lacquer clear coat, and you can simply use paint remover, and clean with lacquer remover, etc. Then very lightly sand, then apply a new coat of satn or semi-gloss black. The problem may be if the finish was "oiled". In that case, the old paint will likely have penetrated the grain of the oak. Oak is coarse grain finish by nature of the species. In that case, you may be be better off applying new oak veneer. It's not that difficult, and not that expensive. See these threads for discussions and techniques for veneer, re-finishing, etc. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/110684.aspx Grills http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/109618.aspx K’horns http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/109693.aspx Heresy’s (start at page 3) http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/117315.aspx Cornwalls
  20. The MPX circuitry is prone to interference, etc. on older tube tuners. It's difficult to get around it unless you use a really good, isolated FM antenna. Noted this on many FM tuners, including TU-99, 919, 9900. 719, 719, and the Macs. I live in the sticks, and until I isolated the antenna it was an issue. Just a thought.
