  1. I agree with that. I am a bit paranoid of the whole idea of shipping when it comes to electronics and speakers, so I will only pickup these things. I see a lot of interesting deals offered here and have no way to take advantage of them. I was pondering the purchase of a Blueberry preamp, but chose not to because of the shipping thing. I hope you enjoy your new Khorns. Tom
  2. Jerry, That seems like a pretty fair price. I noticed your location. Lake Oswego, thats right below Portland isn't it? I too live in the Great NW. There doesn't seem to be too many of us on this forum.
  3. Beautiful Khorns. I think they look great the way they are. I don't own a pair, but, someday I surely will. I know that if they were mine, I would leave them as close to original as I possibly could. I love the old vintage stuff. Congratulations on the purchase. I hope you got a good deal on them. At the chance of being perceived as a bit nosey, how much did you pay? Tom
  4. I picked up a Technics SL-Q3 turntable with a Pickering XL-35U cartridge installed. This cartridge is obviously very old, for I have not been able to find any info. on it. This turntable is not a high-end turntable. I purchased it for $40.00 and it is in great shape. I liked the automatic functions that are available on this unit and it is very simple. The thing operates just fine. The problem I have is that the stylus seems to pick up a lot of surface noise from the vinyl. More than I have ever heard before. Is this a symptom of an old worn-out stylus? Could this be that the stylus is just more sensitive than what I have been using on the HK T-60, (Grado)? The sound seems to be a bit tinny too. Not much low frequency reproduction. My hunch is that it is just an old worn stylus and I should replace the cartridge, unless this Pickering is a good cart.. I haven't got a clue about the performance characteristics of this cartridge. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe a suggestion or two on replacement cartridges. The XL-35U is a P mount cart., so I would imagine that I need to use a P mount replacement. I really don't know alot about this stuff. The price range is from 0-$200.00, preferably less than $200.00. Tom
  5. I just scored a couple of HK cassette decks. They are an hk 400xm and a TD 302. Both of these decks are in excellent condition and perform very well. The hiss level of these decks have been almost non-existent. I was using an Akai GNC 730D until now. Wow what a huge improvement. The Akai is history. The HK's have a super sound. The TD302 is hooked up to my Marantz 2275 and Forte's in the bedroom. The hk 400xm is in my office running through an HK430 and a pair of KG4.2's. I picked them both up for a total of $70.00. Anyone else have cassette decks that they still use? What make and model and how often do you use it? Tom
  6. "Im not sure what your trying to do but your ears might go before those speakers go....I got K-Horns,,,LaScalas....Heresys powered with 24 watts a channel and could run you out of the room at 11 o-clock on the volume dial. I cant imagine your speakers not giving you what you want with 200 watts feeding them.Rick " La Scalas w/home built ALKs and grippers,HeresyII,HeresyI,1972 K-Horns with CT125 tweeters and 4500HZ A-type crossovers and new cast frame woofers from BEC,HK430,HK730,B&O 1700,Yamaha 1040,Akai Gx-F71 Rick, I couldn't help but notice you have an HK430. I just picked one up for $10.00 today and am listening to it now through some KG4.2's. This is a pretty good little receiver. I need to clean the control pots and replace a bulb at the high end of the tuning display, but other than that this little thing rocks pretty good. One heck of a buy! Tom
  7. Thank you Marshall. I am going to get with the tech that is servicing my 9090DB some time this week and make sure the ones that Harry sent me are the right ones. I am pretty sure they are. I appreciate the help that I have received from Forum members like your self and Harry, just to name a few. I will keep the links to Warren, just in case I need help with parts. Oh, by the way, the advice you gave me on the AU-X301 was right on cue. The amp is a pretty good little amp. I am glad I took your advice and picked it up. Thanks, Tom
  8. I too am a Forte owner and was very impressed with their sound. You have purchased a great speaker for a great price. Congratulations on your purchase. They certainly do have a great sound stage. Tom
  9. Another well written story , an adventure, if you will. Ah, the days of our youth. This story reminds me of the hazy, yet intriguing 70's. The time of experimentation, the tail end of the free love movement, and some wonderful Empire and Stanton MM cartridges if I remember correctly. Of course now, I did mention a bit of a haze. I too am considering a quest for a good MM cartridge for a reasonable price (hopefully under $200.00). So, I will be watching this thread closely. Thebes, it is always an enjoyable event reading your posts. Tom
  10. I just ordered the book, "Quad, The Closest Approach". Has anyone purchased this book? If so, what do you think of it? I have read glowing reviews about the writing and the data it includes, not to mention the illustrations. I was just wondering what some of the forum members think about this book. I can't wait to receive it. Tom
  11. Since we don't have to stick to the list, I would want a pair of the Belle's. Because they are beautiful as well as great sounding speakers. I guess Klipsch will have to start building them again, just for me! Tom
  12. I have been trying to find a set of Pre-Main Connectors for my 9090DB. I have been using a short RCA cable, but, would like to acquire the original pm connectors. I have been checking the internet for Sansui parts but have come up empty. Does anyone have a set or know where I can find one? Tom
  13. Well damn, as luck would have it the Gods of Fortune did not smile upon me while in Vegas. Unfortunately, I don't have any new found wealth to share. Oh well, there is always next year. Next year new gear for everyone. Oh, by the way, I had a gas. Hot as heck down there. Tom
  14. Oh, and everybody gets current model Mac amps and preamps to run them with.
  15. If I get rich in Vegas in these next couple of days I'll buy us all some Khorns. Tom
  16. Me too. She was 15 and I was 18. I wound up marrying her. Late bloomer? Selective Stallion. Smart man.
  17. I cleaned the volume control and every other control while I was at it and it has made no difference. What else might the problem be? Any help or suggestios will be appreciated.
  18. My new acquisition is hooked up and is reproducing Dark Side of the Moon pretty darned well. I do have one concern though. The volume knob seems to yield very little volume from the off position to the 9 o'clock position, but beyond that it comes on like gang busters. Is it common for this to behave this way? If not, what could be the issue? I like the sound it produces and it will take a bit , I believe, to realize all the diferences between the C-26 and the Phase Linear 3000 Series II. I can tell already that it has a bit warmer touch to it. But this is the first cd I have listened to so far. Tom

  20. Thank you very much. I am eager to incorporate this preamp into my system. Now I can read the manual and be much more comfortable with the installation. Thanks again Tom
  21. I picked up a pretty clean looking C-26 preamp. Everything seemed to check out ok on the unit. Now I am in need of an owners manual. Does anyone out there have one that they might be able to send to me in the form of an attatchment in an email? Or is there a sight I might be able to download a copy for free on the web? I'm pretty jazzed about this. It is too late to hookup tonight but I will certainly get it in motion tomorrow. Any help in procurement of a manual would be greatly appreciated. Tom
  22. I am just about to close a deal on a Sunfire Symphonic Reference Preamp, but will go for the Mac. if this model will give me the sonic excellence I am looking for on a budget. Will this Mac perform better than the newer Sunfire?
  23. I have an opportunity to pick one up for $375.00 If it works is this a good deal. I need to know quickly as the seller will sell to first come first serve. Help! Should I jump?
  24. The reason I am thinking seriously about the Sunfire is, the reviews I have read at audio review.com have all been very good and for the $400.00 price tag I thought it may be a step in the right direction. Of course, eventually The Mac. equipment will come my way. But until that time comes I just want to play and upgrade as I do so. Compromise, that dirty word.
  25. Should I seek out therapy?
