  1. Voom has more than just the 40 HD channels, they have TLC, comedy central, CNN, HBO, etc... just like DirecTV. Voom won't get you NFL Sunday ticket or special packages like that. It's a company only less than 1 year old so I want to make sure it will stick around after I invest a lot of dough. Dish Network just dropped Comedy Central and MTV and some other channels from their service so I definitely wouldn't go with them in the future.
  2. We all hear so much about Dish vs. DirecTV but who's got Voom TV? I hate my cable and want to switch to a satellite provider and I have an HD set so HD programming would be cool. Voom TV has close to 40 HD channels so I'm looking for people who subscribe to voom and their corresponding opinions. It's like $750 for the whole kit & kaboodle which they claim is less than DirecTV because Voom provides an off air antenna free installed so you can get your locals in HDTV. Send me a line so I know who to choose. You always hear 3 rooms of DirecTV for free but I'm looking for one of those sets to be HD but when you always ask how much extra for the one HD box, they never give me a straight answer. Guess they are too wrapped up in their promotion deals giving away 25 dollar DVD players with a 1 year subscription. Thanks.
  3. I prefer not to open the backs of the speaker. It's pretty solid and I'd hate to ruin them. Here's an idea, Does klipsch make longer feet? I suppose I could hit a hardware store and manufacture some feet out of a long screw but I'm not sure I could match the threading or the color (black). Does anyone know if they sell replacement spikes? maybe some 6 or 8 inchers will do.
  4. Turning off the amp has nothing to with my problem. The amp doesn't even have to be on. The speaker isn't even on. Just the unpowered unused speaker's magnet alone distorts the screen. It's weird. I have feet on the speaker protruding roughly 3 inches but obviously that's still not tall enough to retard the shielding.
  5. When I take the speaker away and fix the convergence on the TV, it goes away so I know it's not the screen.
  6. I have a KLFC7 center channel sitting on top of my big screen. The other day I noticed a rainbow prism in the center of the screen shining up toward the KLFC7. It's only noticable when you stand up directly in front of the screen looking over down the front of it. At normal viewing level and angle it's totally unoticeable. I imagine this is not good for the TV and was wondering what my methods should be to rectify it? Should I place a piece of plywood under the speaker? The magnet is obviously strong enough to get through the speaker box. Do you think it'll go through another 3/4" piece of plywood? It would look cheesy/tacky on top of the TV but maybe if I painted it black or something it'd be better. Have any of you run across this before and what did you do? Thank you.
  7. I was told by the dealer that by adding a Denon POA 5200 to my Denon AVR5700, that I could achieve 7.1 sound in my home theater. However, I have no idea how to set it up and test the tones on all 7 channels. As far as I can tell the POA 5200 will just amplify my output but don't I still need another input source to get the 2 extra channels? Is that like a decoder or another AV receiver or something? Can someone please help and if so it's the speaker wires I'm most concerned about. The POA5200 has 2 sets of leads and my AVR5700 has 5.1 but 2 sets of leads for surrounds (same channel A&. So which pieces of the 7.1 do I connect to the AVR5700 and which to the POA5200? Thanks.
  8. I recently installed my speakers in a new room and forgot how high I had my surrounds mounted in my other house. If I remember correctly it was recommended to use 5'7". The manual recommends 6-8 feet. My question is which dimension is accurate? Top of the speaker? Bottom of the speaker? Middle of the speaker? These are 15 inches tall so what does everybody recommend? I know you'll all say "whatever sounds best" but I don't feel like making swiss cheese in my drywall. I had the perfect height in my old setup. I just wish I would have written that dimension down. Please advise. Thanks.
  9. I'm sorry that's what I meant to say. DC. Like a regular fan you plug in the wall. The smallest ones at wal-Mart or K-mart are like 8 inches. I need something like half that. Preferably a clip on so I can clip it to the leg on my entertainment rack.
  10. Have you ever seen those people that walk around on hot days outside (usually at carnivals or something) with little tiny personal 3 inch fans powered by a D-cell battery? Where can I find a similar AC powered fan to run across the top of my amp to keep it cooler? I didn't see any at Radio Shack or any on ebay. Anyone have links or stores if you know what I'm talking about? Cheers.
  11. I can't figure this out but hopefully one of you can help me. Every once in a while maybe once or twice a month I come home from work and my Denon 5700 is powered up for no particular reason. I have it plugged into a surge protector power strip and nobody else has a key to my house so I know there is nobody else using my stereo. Does anybody have any clue why my receiver mysteriously turns itself on? I can't link it to a particular time either (i.e. storms or lightening). It seems totally random. Once I find out why, how do I fix it? In other words if it turns on itself how can I get it to turn off itself? Some kind of timer perhaps? Thanks.
  12. If you don't have an HDTV it's not going to matter anyway.
  13. hit Ctrl+A to select all and then ctrl+C to copy it. Then submit it. If it times out you have a copy to paste for another try. I thought everybody did that. It's not brain surgery.
  14. Conduit is the biggest waste of your time for speaker wire and totally useless. Just run your wires through the walls by themselves. Conduit is conpletely unecessary for speakers. You can't even tell the difference. Conduit is only in existance to give electrical unions work. Workers bending pipe take 3 times as long to wire a house therefore making more money and wasting yours. Typical lazy union member. Most codes use Romex to wire homes because that's all that's necessary. The pipe will not reduce any speaker wire noise for you. It's a myth.
  15. This is precisely why I asked. If I have my front mains on the separate amp, can't I put these quintets on the AVR 5700 as the main speakers. Won't they just be like extra sound up front? They don't necessarily need their own 2 channels? I'm not sure how I'm going to setup this 7.1 with my new amp. I bought it and moved at the same time so my theater isn't setup yet. Does anyone else out there have the same scenario where they need to use a separate amp to drive an extra set of speakers as well as hooking up the HT receiver that's 5.1 itself? I just thought of another Idea too. The AVR 5700 has A/B surround. So I could have my KLF 30's up front, KSP S6's on the sides, KLF 10's in the back (A) and Quintets in the back (. Maybe that's a better setup. What do you think?
