  1. Great stuff. "Who says you need to buy a guitar ? "
  2. It really depends on if your system is set up to follow Conventional Flow, or Electron Flow. If Ben Franklin put the arrows on the cable, everything is probably ok. In any case, to make sure you do this properly, as Timmikid pointed out, audio signals are AC. That means you want to actually swap the cable direction every time the signal direction changes. Hope your arms don't get too tired.
  3. It Might Get Loud - Jimmy Page, The Edge, & Jack White. And of course, Spinal Tap.
  4. I should have said Thanks long ago to Amy and LaToya who helped me to get a replacement pair. The new set's cables are just as stiff, and starting to show signs of a kink at the jack, but still sound awesome. So basically after sending you a defective pair the first time, they didn't even bother to double quality check the replacment pair to ensure it would'nt happen agian? And it has already starting to show signs of suffering the same fate as the first pair right out of the box? The kink didn't happen "right out of the box", but about 2 months later. It's minor for now. Personally, I think the braided reinforcement develops a loose bit, and the rubbery cable bit "herniates" out of it. I can see needing replacements again before the warranty is up, and hopefully by then this will be sorted out. but for now they're ok.

  6. But wait. Don't you remember the first time, after years of struggling to get pop&click-free music from your albums or hiss-free music from your cassettes, that you heard a CD ? It was magic. THere was NO background noise, and dynamic range to blow your socks off. So WTF, why should it be different today ? Here's a great explanation I stumbled across on youtube about "The Loudness War". Trust me, it's worth the time: CDs, at least theoretically, offer better dynamic range than other easily accessible audio media. The problem is current audio engineering practice which forces engineers to compress the crap out of the dynamic range, making everything sound very "flat" (but loud). I agree with most of what Unclemeat wrote, but hey, I've got CDs that sound FANTASTIC. I think there still could be hope for the CD medium, if we just stop the dynamic range compression and loudness war.

    War Movies

Maybe not exactly a war movie, but then neither is Gladiator (one of my favorites), check out Lord of War. "I prefer it my way"
  8. Three words and an acronym: Lord of War, and DTS. There's a scene where Nicholas Cage is talking to his Russian uncle on a ship. If you have trouble hearing them, it's a good time to crank the volume... One more vote for : Master & Commander (DTS) Flight of the Phoenix (DTS), and The IncrediblesBTW, I really wish I didn't have to specifically look for DTS. Why don't they just put it on DVDs by default? Licensing? Space ? Compatibility ?

  10. Like earthman said, my Custom 3s sound like "music in my head", but only for about the length of 1 song. I use the big single flange gels, get the seal easily and life is great. It's like I'm onstage or something. But soon after, they start slipping out, and the seal is lost. This happens whether I'm actively moving around, or sitting at my desk trying to work. It's a bit frustrating to have to reach up every 2-3 minutes to readjust. So rather than the "slippery' style, can anyone recommend a source for stickier gels that will stay in place more reliably ? Otherwise, very comfortable.
  11. Je viens de t'envoyer un email avec le bouton "contact". Si jamais ca ne marche pas, envoi un PM. Je peux peut-etre t'aider...
  12. I didn't catch the show, but have the DVD. It is one of the best recorded disks I have and use it to test and show off the system. The DTS track is like you're in the front row. Highly recommended...
  13. I've been reading this thread closely, and hoping that I'd see solutions being offered. Unfortunately haven't seen any yet, so I guess I'll have to add my voice to the unhappy ones already here. I got my Custom-3s at Christmas 2008. Cables were stiff right out of the box, so explanations like skin oils and cold weather don't seem to stack up. I have always been very careful with them, as I am with all my gear. Here it is 3 months later, and the cable has developed one very nasty kink where the flexible earpiece ends, and the insulation has worn off - see the photo. I have had MANY different types and brands of headphones and earphones without EVER experiencing a problem like this. I expected these to last a lifetime, and am getting very worried about whether they'll make it through the next few weeks/months. Please don't say to take them back to where I bought them, they were from Amazon.com and I'm now living in France. How can I get this sorted out?
  14. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Naked, but I don't suppose there were any hits on it. Give it a try. Lots of cool rhythms, excellent recording, worth cranking up. It definitely is great for showing off 2 channel systems.
  15. Prompted by another thread on the Talking Heads, try getting Naked. Great horns, even some baritone sax thrown in, clean and crisp bass, and an overall fantastic recording. Excellent for showing off your system too... 1 : Blind 2 : Mr. Jones 3 : Totally Nude 4 : Ruby Dear 5 : (Nothing but) Flowers 6 : The Democratic Circus 7 : The Facts of Life 8 : Mommy Daddy You and I 9 : Big Daddy 10 : Bill 11 : Cool Water lots of inspiration from my current hometown...
  16. I thought it was excellent. And if you think it sounds good in 5.1, did you try it in DTS? Jumped out of my chair a couple times...
