  1. Its just this thought i cant get out of my head(Khorns in my living room). Im unsure if i have the space for them though. My living room is 25X17 with 8 foot ceilings. But the living room is open to the dining room and kitchen. I live in a double wide trailer and not a house though. I dont know if the thickness of my walls and floors make a diffrence on the sound though. The khorns would be about 15 ft apart in corners. Ive heard Khorns have to be in optimal listening conditions but i was reading audioreview last night and a guy said he had them(Khorns) in a 16X20 bedroom(not far off from my deminsions) and they were still the best thing he ever heard in his life.
  2. Thank you for your input guys []. I currently have a synergy setup(5.1) im using for hometheater. Im considering moving it into the bedroom and starting a pure 2 channel setup in my living room. I really want to get a pair of Klipschorns(who doesnt?) for my living room. And i was thinking to get the most of the horns id have to upgrade to tubes. It sounds like tubes make a huge diffrence. The only ones ive priced though were terribly expensive like 2,000-3,000 just for the amp. Is that the normal going rate for tube amps?
  3. Lately ive become very intrested in vinyl. And i have alot of questions that have made me rethink not only CDs but my listening equipment as a whole. First off, ive heard that vinyl while maybe not technically superior, it is emotionally. Ive heard it said that since vinyl is not digitally compressed it has a fuller warmer sound. That cd is colder and more exacting. Im unsure though, i did have a turntable when i was a teenager but had poor quality speakers(whose grilles werent even removable). I did like the sound of the turntable though. A few questions on vinyl first. 1)Is there a diffrence in sound quality between a 12" vinyl or 7" vinyl, or just size? 2)What diffrence does the speed of the LP make(you know 33 rpm etc)? 3)Do you feel you need tubes to fully take advantage of the Vinyl sound? 4) What are some pros and cons of switching to vinyl? Thanks for your time and patience [] Post Script: I asked this on 2 channel and think it is better suited here.
  4. One plus for the klipsch is their sensitivity. They are very easy to drive, my synergy SF-1 mid-tower has 94d sensitivity. Which means you dont need as powerful of amp to drive them loudly and clearly. So the klipsch will give you more output and play louder. The main reason id say the go with klipsch(i havent heard Boston acoustics full speakers, only car audio) is the horn sound. It is more authentic to the theater, and is tough to match for the level of detail it will reveal in a 5.1 track. Not saying the bostons wont. But go to your theater and look at the speakers...Im betting they use horns as most theaters do. There IS a reason for that other then they sound better[6]. And that reason is nothing can match horns for detail.

  6. I think I know Just the component your looking for but i dont know your budget. DVDO has been making pro grade video hubs for some time now ...they will also provide professional upconversion of your DVDs, well actually anything you plug into this hub will be upconverted...it is a lossless upconversion. Fantastic company and they have DVD packages too. Here is a link to their website for you to read up on. DVDO LInk: http://www.dvdo.com/index.php Why wait and see who wins the software war for best HD? Take advantage of HD now with the films you already own on DVD!
  7. I have Klipsch Synergy SS.5 the smallest klipsch surround to feature their WDT(Wide Dispersion Technology) and it is an amazing little 4 inch surround speaker. When Watching LOTR fellowship of the ring in the begining where it shows Sauron Holding the ring and flames cross the surrounds...it causes an amazing affect(you'll pat your head scared your hair may be on fire). Outside the prancing pony rain fall is realistic and believable. My only problem is when I originally purchased my surrounds they were for a small bedroom and I am now in great need of an upgrade moving them to my living room. If this little surround behaves with such lifelike clarity and rich detail( I paid barely a 100 dollars for the pair new) I can only imagine what their THX ultra big brothers can do []. I'll never own another speaker besides klipsch!
  8. Thats a tough one. I would go with the RF62 based system. Im no expert but there is something about having the same drivers, i mean the exact same sound(midrange etc) and timbre matching(or as close as you can get). I went to the theater and looked and all their speakers were the same cabinet size and the same speaker. I looked at the klipsch Ultra 2 series and they are the same size woofer. Thats tells me believable sound fields are created when you have several speakers as close to the same as possible. I know timbre matching is only mostly important on your front stage and its OK to have diffrent surrounds but I think to get true system synergy they all need to be the same. Thats why im now upgrading my SS.5 for SS3 to match my fronts on output, woofer, midrange and sound. Save the extra cash and get the damn fine RF62 . Some possible configs 4XRB61 with 2xRF62 and a RC62(RC64 if you have a big screen like me) Add a nice sub(SVS, HSU ETC). There is a nice 7.1 I prefer 4XRS62 with 2XRF63 and a RC64 an outlaw 1070...and dual SVS PCultra2 Subs....[] But really it all depends on what your trying to build...dedicated home theater? A system that would be good with live DVD audio concert recordings? Something equally as good for 2 channel music? hmm your config all depends on what your using it for I guess
  9. TY silversport, for all your help. Ive learned so much since my first purchase, and i think the outlaw is the way to go. I have a lot to learn about my new hobby(obsession really LOL) but its nice when you can learn in the company of people with such good taste in speakers lol []
  10. I see, I have seen SPL meters before but was unsure their use. Now I know LOL. I do have a sub tho not much of one lol but it does output bass...I have a JBL EP150(150 watt 27hz-150 HZ i believe). Unfortunatly I bought the receiver second hand and it didnt have a remote and with this model you need the remote to access the speaker settings menu. I plan to soon upgrade to an outlaw 1070 A/V. Tho i have also considered purchasing the denon's remote off ebay. Really irritaing, it was the first piece of equipment i bought and now kind of feel like a sucker lol.
  11. Hi, im new to the klipsch forums after lurking for awile lol. I currently have a denon 1601 avr and a synergy setup. I have SF1- 94db Sensitivity SC1-95db Sensitivity SS.5-90db Sensitivity A very Modest system compared to what many of you have and ive seen on this site but i love that horn sound too and this was the most affordable. But back to my question, with the diffrent sensitivity and sizes of the various speakers Im trying to have an even sound stage and surround field. I currently have my mains FL and FR set +2db and center channel I left at zero. I have my surrounds(SL&SR) set +9db. And it all sounds pretty even to my untrained ears but im not sure if its exact. My question is this, is there a system to figuring this out or perhaps a tool that may balance my sound stage and surround field? Thx for all your help []
  12. Id recommend outlaw audio's 1070 A/V Receiver for $899.99 The Specs: http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/1070.html The Reviews: Big Picture, Big Sound: http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/outlaw-1070-receiver.shtml Home Theater Magazine: http://hometheatermag.com/completesystems/106outlaw/ Gizmag: http://hometheatermag.com/completesystems/106outlaw/ Secrets Of Home Theater and Hifidelity: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_12_3/outlaw-1070-receiver-9-2005-part-1.html With 65 Real world ultra high current watts X7 channels, dual subwoofer output, Dvi switching, and alot of cool ssp modes, I think its quite a bargain . Check out their subwoofers too pretty nice "little" cubes.
  13. I'd say anything Star Wars or LOTR....but also King Kong Black Hawk Down The Lion King I use these all as refrence points of diffrent things but they are all excellent DVD transfers imo. I watched Munich last night, im still uncertain as to its political underbelly but the video and audio quality were top notch.
  14. I would have to say the worst film I've seen is Hard Boiled, though I've seen quite a few bad ones. I dont know that it was actually that bad per say but I had heard so much about it being better then Die Hard that it really disappointed me. Horrible acting, poor transfer, and I dont care much for john woo's directing style. *waits for the flames*
