  1. I avoid U-Bid like the plague. ------------------ lerajie
  2. To my ears the KLF-20's are better overall. Not everyone has ears like mine though. ------------------ lerajie
  3. Joe D: That is what I figured you meant. I would use dipoles/wdst speakers for surrounds ( I am using RS-3s) and direct radiators for rear surrounds (currently KSB 2.1's will be KLF-20's) ------------------ lerajie
  4. Velodyne makes some fantastic subwoofers no doubt about that.As far as the reproduction of music. I think it is fantastic. I used to sing in a small garage band .I remember vividly the sound and feeling that a kick drum makes in person and the SV does a fantastic job of reproducing that sound among others. I contacted SVS about the new line. It is tentatively being called the SS series. It is supposed to be 2 to 3 times better than the current line and also cost 2 to 3 times more. It should be available in additional finishes-piano gloss etc.You can contact SV for a small press release. That's where I got my info. ------------------ lerajie
  5. I personally prefer direct radiating speakers for rear surrounds. ------------------ lerajie
  6. As far as price for performance I don't think you can beat this line of subs. The last time I heard a sub that was comparable to this sub was when I installed an HGS 15 in a co-workers home thater.Comparing the two subs I would say the 16-46cs comes out on top by a decent margin.I'm not the only one that thinks so either. I have had several guests over since I have hooked this sub up and everyone that has heard has been nothing short of stunned by what it can do.Keep in my mind these are the type of people who have never listened to any serious equipment aside from mine. If you add the price of my Parasound Amp:$600.00 used and the Sub $549 shipped to my house(not to mention another can be added for $549). You can see that as far as high end subs go this one is very affordable. Listening to the performance of this single SV sub I have no qualms with Tom Vodhandels claim that two 16-46's can surpass the performance of an HGS-18. I will give fair warning to anyone that is considering purchasing this sub. If you are accustomed to "boomy" bass it is going to take you some time to acclimate to the SV line of subs. They do not boom. There is very little noticeable overhang and they are very fast musically. ------------------ lerajie
  7. Use a power plug that doesnt have the grounding prong. You can buy adapters that isolate the ground or just break yours off. ------------------ lerajie
  8. KSB 1.1 is the older version. If you can swing it get the RB-5's. They are markedly better. ------------------ lerajie
  9. I am enjoying it very much. It's a fantastic unit. About the downfall I can see so far is the slow inital reading of the disks. Otherwise it is the best player I have ever owned. ------------------ lerajie
  10. I watched a couple of scenes from U-571 and The Matrix tonight and it seems to perform even better on movies. I will not say this sub is amazing me. It is however impressing the hell out of me. ------------------ lerajie
  11. Just put my SV sub through a "bass cd" torture test. There is a track on this cd that sweeps from anout 15hz to 30hz.During this track I took a reading from my listening position. At 14 feet from the sub I got a peak reading of 114db . As I was doing this I watched my fiancee's "precious moments" dance around in the curio cabinet. Pretty impressive for a single 12inch sub. ------------------ lerajie
  12. I purchased a couple of Sanus stands for my KSB 2.1's and like them quite a bit. ------------------ lerajie
  13. Holy smokes Cola that is quite the Theater you have assembled. How's that Vidikron? ------------------ lerajie
  14. It took me less than 3 weeks to get my passive unit. One day (!!) to ship it. After listening to the sub more. All I can say is : accurate. It sounds more like real bass. No boom, no bloat. ------------------ lerajie
  15. When I walk into my local Klipsch dealer (American TV) they call me by my first name and give me the best price they can right up front. It was not always like that. When I first started buying home theater gear I was just hopping from store to store looking for the best price. After I started to get serious I started buying from the same salesman at the same store every time. When that salesman moved on to greener pastures I had him set me up with another salesman there that could keep the deals flowing. I get pretty solid deals from my local dealer and always give him the first shot at my business. But, if I can get the product at a significantly better price I would be silly not to buy it off the internet. My suggestion to anyone building and or maintaining a home theater is to develop a relationship with a salesman at your local dealer. Most of them will work with you after you have bought from them a few times.Don't be afraid to haggle but don't try to slit their throats for $10.00. Every bit you haggle off the price comes out of the salesman commission. In retail there is usually a pretty big margin built into the listed price so don't hesitate to ask for a better deal. A salesman is more willing to give you a deal if you buy a lot of your gear from him. If he knows your not there to buy one thing he will be willing to make less off each item knowing that you will be back for more.Talk to your salesman, make sure he or she knows your name and what your interested in. Every time I walk into the store the salesman spots me we chit chat a bit and he lets me know what kind of stuff he has in stock that might interest me. In kind I don't jerk him around I only ask for his time when I am serious about purchasing. No salesman appreciates giving a two hour demo to find out your "just thinking about it". That being said. I do enjoy very much the opportunity to be able to shop from home and have the ability to choose freely whom I purchase from. And I am VERY disappointed w/Klipsch for deciding to disallow internet sales. What if I have a bad experience with my local dealer? They are the only Klipsch dealer within a two hour drive.Am I to be expected to drive to Chicago to purchase some speakers I will probably have to rent a truck to bring home? I think not.It is because of this I doubt my future home theater will be based on Klipsch products .I hate to say that because I have been extremely loyal to Klipsch over the past few years. However I cannot in good faith continue to support a company that does not have me a loyal consumer as it's number one priority. The home theater speaker market is very crowded these days. Plenty of companies are willing to do what the others won't. I hope Klipsch realizes that. Just in case anyone from Klipsch decides to read this. I have purchased: 2x KLF-30 1x KLF C-7 2x RS-3 2x KSB2.1 1x KSW-12 2x SS-1 1x KSC-1 enough incoherent babbling for one night. ------------------ lerajie
  16. I received my SVS 1`6-46cs today. I am powering it with a Parasound HCA 1500a. Initial impressions are favorable. Very accurate bass. Absolutely no bloat. Fast and tight. Doesnt seem as loud as my KSW-12. The 16-46 doesn't have that artificial BOOM that the KSW did.I think I will favor the accuracy over the boom after I acclimate to the SVS. ------------------ lerajie
  17. In my opinion the Denon AVR-5800 is the best choice. Every review I have read placed the 5800 among the best of the best. It is regularly compared to top of the line separates. The 5800 shares several qualities with the 4800 which I own and have a great deal of experience with. I currently have four Denon products: And AVR-4800, DVM-3700, RC-8000 and a RC-8001. The DVD player and the receiver function brilliantly. The remote takes some getting used to though. However, once you do get accustomed to the RC-8000 it is very handy. I have had absolutely zero problems with the Denon products I own. About the only bad thing I can say about Denon is there is next to no customer support via the web and they have been very slow in providing software for the RC-8000 remote. ------------------ lerajie
  18. Update to my last statement. I bought a Denon DVM 3700 and HDCD is now impressive to me. Huge difference between the Toshiba and the Denon in sound quality as well as video. The Sony DVP 650 I had before the Toshiba while being reliable as a rock. Cannot compete with either the Denon or Toshiba in the audio department. The Denon is head and shoulders above both of my older units in audio and video. If you are still considering the 3700. Keep in mind that Denon chose the 3700 as its source component in it's demo room at CES last year. That's right, they chose to use the 3700 over their "audiophile CD player" for music and their DVD 5000 for movie playback. So far after watching 6 movies and listening to about 10hrs worth of CD music I really like the 3700.Alot. ------------------ lerajie
  19. I am about to upgrade my KSB 2.1's that I am using for rear surrounds. I am considering KLF-20's and KLF-10's. I know I much prefer the 20's over the tens for main channel duty. However I don't know what kind of difference I will see with them as rears. I will be using them for both HT and Music duty as rear channels. I can get a pair of Oak 10's for $810 and a pair of oak 20's for $1050. My current system is: Denon AVR-4800 Denon DVM-3700 Parasound HCA 1500a Klipsch KLF-30 mains Klipsch KLF c-7 center Klipsch RS-3 surrounds Klipsch KSB 2.1 rear surround Klipsch KSW-12 sub to be replaced in a week with SVS 16-46 cs Adcom speaker selector Monster interconnects Monster power conditioner. ------------------ lerajie
  20. Just last night I purchased a Denon DVM-3700 to replace my problematic Toshiba SD 2200. Initial impressions are VERY good. I notice a very large difference between the Denon and the Toshiba especially on HDCD disks. Overall sound is much better than the Toshiba and my old Sony DVP 650. Picture quality as well is markedly improved. However, the remote is a total turd burglar. Good thing I can control the DVM-3700 w/my RC-8000 and I can use RF instead or IR via the control port. The only other fault I can find so far is the mechanism is a little slower than that of my Sony. I was going to wait for Denon to make a 5 disk progressive scan, DVD audio(w/proper bass mgmt.) capable player but I needed something now. The fact that I got the player $400 less than MSRP didn't hurt either. ------------------ lerajie
  21. Try the RS-3's. It's about as close as you can get with the current models. Or, you can wait for the new models that are due out in the near future. ------------------ lerajie
  22. My Sony dvp 600 plays everything I throw at it;cd, cd-r, cd-rw, video cd. Plays some pretty pretty well abused disks as well. I recently switched to a Toshiba DS2200 as something with DTS to tide me over til someone makes an all in one 5 disk,DVD Audio,SACD,Progressive scan player The Toshiba so far is good for music not do good for movies. I see alot of smearing in some movies and massive pixellization in others. I am going to take it back this weekend and get a low end Denon. The HDCD capabilities of the Toshiba are not impressing me. ------------------ lerajie
  23. You can use what's commonly referred to as "Smurf tube" for your wire runs. It is a blue flexible plastic tubing that can be found at most home improvement stores. It can be bought in several sizes and can be very easily worked with by novice and pro alike. ------------------ lerajie
  24. I use 7channel stereo for CD music when I want big sound and 2channel when I want it to be accurate. For 7 channel stereo music I drop the level of the RS-3's by 5db. They sound kinda muddy for music playback when they are at the HT setting. As for using your cornwalls for both cd playback and pseudo 7.1. I am currently using my KSB2.1's in that exact manner. They are hooked up via the front L&R speaker terminals as I am using the Parasound to power the KLF-30's. There is a menu where you can specify which channels you want to be driven by the AVR. You can choose to either drive the rear surrounds with an outboard amp or the mains. Let me know if you get the 4800 and need more help. ------------------ lerajie
  25. Where is this Sound Advice you speak so highly of? I am very interested in getting two KLF-10's for under $600. ------------------ lerajie
