  1. Anyone know of an inexpensive replacement woof for an SF-1? One of my friend's speakers has a cone that has become detached from the sleeve that fits over the voice coil. Sorry for my awkward nomenclature but you probably get the picture. Thanks for your help. ~ Joe
  2. As the prior owner of these fine speakers, I would like to congratulate John on this wonderful restoration. Huzzah! I am especially awed by the new speaker grills. Did you do that? Best wishes ~ Joe
  3. Just my 2 cents - I have a friend with a pair of Fortes; I have owned at least two pairs of Heresy. The Fortes sound superior to my ears. Given the choice, given a similar price, given that space is not an issue, I would choose the Forte without hesitation. For reference, I own and l listen to "W" Cornwalls.
  4. 2) I could be wrong but my ears are telling me that my Heresys have better high frequency extension. There just seems to be a little more "air" there. Bells are clearer, cymbals are crisper, etc.. The Heresys have K-77Ms (square magnet) HF horns and the Cornwalls have K-77 (round alnico? magnets) HF horns. As the Heresys have been relegated to "surround" duty is there any reason to not swap the tweeters? I do plan to install Crites CT125s in both the Heresys and the Cornwalls when budget allows but I'm thinking that swapping them might just satisfy (yea... right) me in the mean time. Thoughts? For no good reason, a few Cornwalls have passed through my hands. A significant number have had blown tweeters. It is not as easy to hear this awful problem as it might seem. Especially if you have heard Eric Johnson live, without ear protection; especially if you are over 45 years old. But you might just try playing music through the Cornwalls and, using a rolled up magazine or something held to your ear, listen exclusively to the tweeters. If you don't hear the tiz of the cymbals, you have a blown tweeter. Have Mr Crites send you his tweeter diaphragms, too. Good luck. I love my Cornwalls. You will too. Joe
  5. Thanks for those responses. Parts express sells good replacements - I think a 68mF Jensen is what I used - that may have cost about 30 for the pair. No matter, it was only the question of the high or low pass that troubled me. Cheers. Joe
  6. Sorry, the robot cut-off my original question. Nothing important but here it is: Hello, Just a quick question: What is the purpose of the big, 70uF cap across the woofer in my Y vintage Cornwalls? I have heard of this cap casually referred to as the garbage cap, or some such thing. Is this a high-pass component, meaning is it passing garbage low freqs, e.g. less than20hz; or is it part of a low-pass filter, sending higher freqs to ground? Thinking about this thing keeps me awake at night. Thanks! Joe

  8. Thanks for all of the instant feedback. Yes the link is: I will post additional photos here when I get to my office. Am I sure I want to sell??? Well, no. But all my reasons for selling are valid and I am confident that I can get another pair - maybe i will try IIs or IIIs next time - when I want. Like the man says, "All you need is the correct change..." Sorry for the original price mis-information. It was a wild-a**ed guess. What would YOU say was the original price? Thanks, Joe
  9. Helo forum folks, I just wanted to let you know that I am parting with my pair of Corwalls ("ones") and they are listed for sale on Audiogon classifieds. I won't post a url - they are easy to find if you want to look. Shipping is always an issue with 100 lb speakers and I can be very flexible with personal delivery. Sorry to clog the bandwith with this but I wanted to make the community aware, in case someone has a friend who is looking. Comments welcome. Thanks, Joe
  10. I can't make a valid judgment between Cornwalls and Khorns. My tiny, tiny house has NO usable corners. My CWs took me a while to appreciate but now I don't think I will ever be able to love another speaker. The smoothness of the bass compared to the slam of monitor-style speakers really has me spoiled. I wonder about the CW vs Heresy comparison. I could really use an extra square inch or two in my living room. What is the sacrifice? Joe
  11. Thanks Bob, That conforms to info I have gleaned since I posted my original question. Especially the nebulous early Cornwall IIs that I have seen. I have also learned that serial numbers sometimes contain a letter code for each year of manufacture, A=1962, Y=1983, etc... But is there a website, book, etc... that compiles all of this folklore? Joe
  12. So, where can you find a good history / timeline for this speaker? I see so many variations on ebay, etc... ever since I bought my own pair. For example, I recently saw a pair labeled "cornwall II" that were obviously very old, pre-dating the 80s speaker now commonly known as the C'wall II. I see vertical and horizontal speaker orientations, plywood vs MDF construction. Well, you know what I am talkin about... If you know your serial number, where do you find out its vintage? Many thanks.
