  1. I would personally like to thank the honcho's and bean counters at Klipsch for the private concert featuring "The Mississippi All Stars" and the "Bleeding Keys" held at the Hard Rock Casino last week during C.E.S. If that wasn't enough; Drinks were on the house for 4 hours!!! Needless to say my wife was v-e-r-y impressed with my consumption, but that's another story. I have no idea what something like that costs - rent the entire (huge) bar for the night, pay for 2 great bands to come out from Indiana and Mississippi, booze for 500 people for the night......SHEESH!!!$$$$$$ Everyone had a great time and was well behaved. Props to Klipsch for doing something like that. I wonder if Magico, Wilson, YG Acoustics etc... would do the same?? I seriously doubt it. They were probably in bed by 9 while us horn people were rocking in the free world.
  2. I am looking for a pair of used Heresy's to use for rear channels on a home theater set-up (Corn Scala's on the front). Which year(s) were considered the best for Heresy's? Which serial number range should I look for ? What should I expect to pay once I find them? Thanks.
  3. I am currently constructing a pair of Bob & Michael Crites CornScala style D 2 way speaker's and was thinking........I may need another project after that. To that point; Which Tuba sub-woofer would be my best choice for music ? My room is approximately 400 sq. ft.. My music taste (or lack there of) is mainly classic rock, blues, some jazz (liking jazz more all the time). Size really does not matter as my wife has no input what so ever when it comes to my dedicated audio room. I have no interest in home theater or surround sound. All input on this matter is most appreciated. Thank's - Geez.
  4. I found myself in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago - which to buy ? I finally decided on the Cornscala "style D". For me the choice was between the Chorus, Forte, Cornwall and Heresy, as I did not have a room that would support the K-Horn's. I immediately dropped the Heresy from consideration (limited LF response) after some sage advice from a few fellow members. Next to go was the Forte for it's lower sensitivity. I finally decided on the Cornwall, however, shipping costs and the innevitable upgrades/repairs (crossovers, diaphrams etc...) made me take a hard look at the Cornscala. After talking with Mr. Crites, I decided to go with the "style D" 2 way. Total outlay with shipping will come in somewhere in the $1500 to $1600 range. This for a baltic/Russian birch ( no mdf ) cabinet complete with cnc motorboard's ( front baffles) , crossovers, drivers etc... When I weighed that vs. $800 to $1000 for a 30 or 40 year old pair of Cornwall's plus $200 to $300 to get them shipped, then whatever upgrades/repairs may be needed, well, it was a no brainer for me. I will however, have to assemble and finish the cabinet's. This is a plus in my opinion because it will allow me to stain and poly them to whatever color I wish. As a bonus they will be dent, scratch and coffee cup ring free. Understand that I blew my initial budget all to hell as it was originally in the $700 range. I assume your budget is quite a bit higher since you are considering K-Horn's or Lascala's. I will post pic's and initial impressions of there sound as the build progress's. Good luck to you which ever way you choose to go.
  5. I ordered the Cornscalla style D from Mr. Crites this morning. The Russian birch flat pack cabinet's should be here in the next 3 weeks or so - can't wait! I will post pic's and my thought's as the build progress's.
  6. I have made my decision after much thought and research. As I stated earlier, Lascalla's, K-Horn's, and Belle's are out as I just do not have the space they require. I have therefore decided to purchase the Bob Crites "Cornscalla" style D. I had decided to buy a good used pair of Cornwll's however, I just could not find anything out there at this time that was within a days drive, plus shipping would have made them cost prohibitive. The pre-cut Russian (Baltic) birch flat pack should arrive within 3 weeks. I will post picture's and give my thoughts from time to time as the build progress's. Thanks to all for advice.
  7. Hello all, I am soliciting advice on which Klipsch's to buy for a all vintage system that I am currently assembling. My amp is a completly rebuilt Stromberg Carlson ASR 433. It is a EL84 P/P integrated - 12wpc. The tuner is a Scott 370 tubed unit. The table is a rebuilt Lenco L75 with a Rega RB 250 arm. Here's the thing - I want to keep my budget around the $700 mark so I am considering the following; The Forte, Chorus, Heresy, or the Cornwall. I really have no experience with the Klipsch sound other than what I have heard from others. The word dynamic keeps popping up, and that's what I am after. I already have a nice Magnepan, Pass Labs, Prima Luna system, so I do not want to spend a ton of $$$$$. My oldest daughter and the University of Minnesota are doing a fine job of keeping me in a perpetual state of broke!!
