Hey tenzip, congrats on the upgrade! I am VERY happy to hear you cleaned up your snake problems. If you were using standard crappy RCA' cables I am not surprised you had noise. I have very slight hiss from one rear surround and thats with the Yammy as pre/pro with "Audioquest" interconnects but I think the power cord is near that speaker cable. I hook up the other "Big Dog" DMC1 this afternoon and have bought pretty good XLR balanced leads for the interconnects, I also have installed a 15amp circuit just for the MPS1 as recommended by EMO, this thing must like juice hey? Will start a fresh post for my initial thoughts on the "Big Dogs" working together as it should be with the "Big Dogs" of the Ref IV lineup. Gotta drive to pick it up now, wish me luck Chris

If the 83's have a fault it is that they are so revealing and reproduce pretty much exactly what is fed into them. I have found through personal experience that some source material does indeed sound shrill. Some CD's I have are so bad I can't listen to them, this has been said by reviewers as well but I can't remember where I read that. Luckily, almost all DVD's wether they are concerts or movies sound great to fantastic depending on recording etc. I think you will have to be like me and others who have turned into "music snobs" and find CD's that sound really good. The good news is that when you find really great source material you will be in sonic nervana, its that lucious. Of course there are other factors involved here as well, room ecoustics for one, tweaking your AVR, you will have to try lots of different settings and manually playing with EQ, speaker positioning is critical, what worked for one speaker will not work for another, and to some extent perhaps a little break-in although I am pretty hesitant to believe that. I am installing my new Emotiva DMC1 this afternoon and I am wondering if its going to help in this area at all, I hope so it costs 3 times what my yammy 2500 did and that had its own amp. Overall, I am super happpy with my 83's but they do have some limitations as above. When you hear something that sounds really really excellent it will be so worth it. If you can find it, pick up "Ray Charles" Genius loves company on the Monster disc in hi-res stereo and DTS96/24 surround, this will show you what these speaks REALLY sound like not all the garbage CD's the record companies have been ramming down our throats for years. Also try Poncho Sanchez, amazing SQ on his stuff too. Of course Eagles HFO and I think "Farewell One Tour"sounds even better. These are just my opinions/observations and I'm sure I'm going to get roasted alive for these statements Chris

Hi there, too bad to hear ZZ sucked, loved those guys. I have the 200 watt modules but I believe the 100's are available now or very shortly. I have 5 channels right now and may go with two 100 watt modules later which will give me 9 channels[] so i can use the "side-axis" which apparently are just super cool. You are correct, the Emo amps are Sunfire Grand IV platforms and improved by Emo. The president of Emo also has part ownership of the factory in China which is why their build quality is so high, he is over in China all the time. Hope you can slip it by the wife..[]

HEY Bee, sounds like RF62 package without the woofer is around $2000, If required, do what alot of us do and build the system slowly. I would say that you should not cheap out on speakers, they are by far the most important part of the system. If anything I would take money off the AVR budget and get one for $500 that will work just fine and get better speakers. Hi Beecrazy, Welcome to the forum! We are happy to offer suggestions but will need an idea of your budget , either total or just speakers. Is this for movies only, some music? What about WAF(wife approval factor) ? Generally speaking, inwall or ceiling mounted speakers will not sound as good as conventional speakers. Depending on budget, I would go 5.1 for now unless money is not a huge concern. its very easy to add the rear surrounds to make 7.1 later on. Very few movies have 6.1 at the moment(sixth channel splits into the two rear surrounds make a "phantom" 7.1. However, once the "HD" players start offering true 7.1 pcm lossless audio, then it will be very much worthwhile. Once we see your budget we will be able to offer more help for your AVR as well. Hi Pat, thank you! If the DMC1 is anything like the MPS1 it will be amazing. That amp has changed my whole sound stage completely. I had Poncho Sanchez playing which is very percussion oriented latin jazz..very well recorded too I might add and the sound of the guys pounding on the congas , bongos, Djembe's etc was just incredible, my room sounds like it is 10' wider than it is, the soundstage opened up that much. Hello there, for surrounds (placed on each side of the listener in a 5.1 system )I would go with the RS series, much better for "surround" use in movies, the RB series is better suited for use as small front speakers or rear surrounds( in a 7.1 system located on the back wall facing forward). Those speaks will all mix quite well together, just ensure that each channel is balanced for output levels( all speakers are at the same volume at your listening position) Enjoy! Chris

Hi there, I also second these opinions. Buy the biggest best sounding most expensive speaks you can afford, as many have said before they are the foundation of a good system. I would suggest RF63 for sure and the RC64 if budget allows. If you need bass, the RF62 will offer more and will sound better all around. The RC62 is a superb center and again has very good amounts off bass which will help you out in movies. If possible, why not buy the mains now and get the RC62 when funds allow. In any case, speakers are the foundation of a good sound system and I would not cheap out in this area if at all possible. Hey Falcon, glad to hear you like those 83's !. Bad luck with the AVR though. OK, I have the EMO MPS1 amp and it is truly amazing what it has done to my system, it just flat out sounds so, rich, sweet, well controlled tight punchy bass..I love it! I get the matching DMC1 pre/pro on Monday..woot! Will let you all know about that of course. I would suggest having a look see at the EMO stuff, if you can handle no audio HDMI its stunning stuff and the UL combo for $899 is a steal plus free shipping and 40% off any model pre/pro later with no time restrictions.
