  1. My wife has a the small Bose system in the Kitchen. I don't have to listen to it.
  2. IMHO, the 1712 won't do either speaker justice. I had a Denon 1907 and I have RF82s an RC62 and an RW12d. When I had the 1907 I was never quite happy with the Klipsch speakers. They would play loud enough, but the high's were strident and they sounded harsh. I replaced the 1907 with a Denon 3310 (well, really a 770, but they are the same thing) and the sound is much improved. No more strident highs, just clean open sound. I know the Klipsch are efficient, but again, IMHO, there is no substitute for ample power.

  4. I have a Dennon 3310 and a 3.1 system. RF82s, RC62 and an RW-12D sub. Sounds awesome to me. I moved up from a Dennon 1907 which did not sound that hot. The 3310 is a perfect match IMHO. And yes, a sub makes all the difference.
  5. Last month I went from a Denon AVR1907 to last year's model, AVR990. This model is exactly the same as the AVR3310CI except for support to a third room (mono support at that). I made the move because I wanted to go HDMI through my receiver using the receiver's upscaler. A benefit I really didn't expect was the great improvement in sound quality. I have a 3.1 system with RF82s, an RC62 and an RW12D. Even though the Klipsch is an efficient speaker, I am blown away by the much improved sound quality going from my old 85 watts per channel to my new 140 watts per, it really is significant. I guess watts really do matter, even with a klipsch system. I didn't know what I was missing. Even my old cassette's that I recorded off vinyl years ago, have added punch. I still have my old Nakamichi. There has been much debate here on the benefit (or non benefit) of bi-amping. I do have my RF82s bi-amped and IMHO that further enhances the sound. I am very happy with my new receiver. The new models offer support for 3D over HDMI, something my 990 lacks, but this is not a concern to me.
  6. Ha - That's what you think. I also have a 3.1 set-up with RF-82s. When I added the RW-12D, she noticed!!!! And, she doesn't like it. But I luv it.
  7. Well I guess it can be done. I don't know the technique Sony is using, but their XBR10 series of TVs, uses a separate receiver for cables that transfers signals wirelessly to the TV. Wireless signals for a Home Theater would be awesome, and it is, IMHO, just a matter of time.
  8. You guys are right, Philips didn't have to do that, but, I paid $3,300. for a top of the line TV only four years ago. I'm still using CRT TVs that I bought in the mid 90s and they are going strong. IMHO, since this is a known issue with Philips, they should have had a repair program to R&R their defective circuit cards. I would have been glad to pay a reasonable repair fee, if I was guaranteed success. Philips just buried their head in the sand over this issue. Also, it was impossible to speak to anyone at Philips either in person or on the internet. The only way I got through to them was with an email campaign, and it took close to a month for them to see that I was serious and not going to stop.
  9. Well after my email to Philips, and 2 followups, I finally got an answer, and a request to leave my phone number. I got a call from someone with the title of Presidential Liaison. We discussed my case, and my attempts to try to talk to some one at Philips. She was very pleasant and understanding. She also told me that Philips no longer manufacturer's TVs. I told her I thought that was odd, since I still see them advertised. She then informed me that Philips sold their name to a Korean manufacturer, whose name I did not recognize. It seems odd to me that a company with a world presence would do such a thing. Anyway, after some lengthy discussion, and my furnishing her with a my Model No, Serial No, and POP, and her being able to locate my registration, she offered me a $500.00 settlement. We finally agreed on a $700.00 amount. Though I think this in no way satisfies my out of pocket losses, $700 is better than a stick in the eye.
  10. I did not ask for hardware replacement. All I did was ask for a technical rep to walk me through a problem I was having. The old Logitech would have worked with me. As I said, this is my second remote, and the customer service with the first unit was very helpful long after the expiration of the warranty. Now, they wont even talk you. I know other companys like that, Philips being one. There is a thread here, about me having to scrap a Philips TV after only four years. IMHO, that kind of customer service sucks big time. And, yes I would expect Klipsch to offer support to me for my speakers. I am the original owner, and if I had a problem I assume they would help me in it's diagnoses. I believe that's only good business sense.
  11. I have a Harmony 880 and I love it. It is my second Harmony. The IR light went out on my first one. However, I am not in love with the company. Their Customer Service changed a couple years ago. They used to be very helpful, and would walk you through any problems you might have with the programming. I bought my last 880 through ebay, and it was advertised as a new unit, came in a new blisterpac, and certainly looked brand new to me. I had initial problems with it, and when I called for service, they asked for the serial number. I was then informed that it had been registered more than a year ago, and they refused me any assistance. I will never buy another Logitech product, but I like my Harmony so much, that when I replace it, it will probably be with another Harmony.
  12. I would disagree here. The RC-52 is not a sonic match for the RF-82. The RF-62 is. The center channel is the most important part of a home theater. I would sell the RC-52 and replace it with the RC-62.
  13. And you posted this here? Why? Fantastic TVs. NOPE - They are GARBAGE - And it cost me $3,200 to find this out. An expensive lesson which I am sharing.
  14. I almost returned the Sony, because it seemed to dim and I could not adjust the brightness to the level that I wanted. Then I discovered that it had a an eco "feature" to dim the screen when the room darkened. I turned this "feature" off and Bingo, now the picture is great. I also changed the mode from Home to Retail. These defeat the Energy Star features, but create a great picture. Also, the Sony has a 346 page Reference Book which contains much needed information, not available in the Operating Instructions booklet. The only problem is, that it does not come as a hard copy with the set. It must be downloaded as a pdf file, and if a hard copy is needed you need to print it. Sort of ticky-tack. AND, I found this out, because, unlike Philips, I was able to speak to real people at Sony, and these people are not off shore. Since I could not speak to a person or get any information from a live chat with the folks at Philips, I sent them an eMail. I'm sure I will never hear from them, but at least I got my point across.
  15. I bought a Display Model Sony 52" XBR9 at BestBuy yesterday. It comes Monday. The XBRs are supposed to have an Industrial Design, so let's hope this one lasts longer than 4 years. I went from Plasma to LCD. Hope I'm happy with my choice. I'll find out next week. I have CRT tube TVs (3 Toshiba's and a Sony) that go back better than 10 years. There's no excuse for this Phillips problem. If it were just me, an isolated incident, I could understand, but it's a wide spread issue that Phillips has chosen to completely ignore. IMHO, they sell crap.
  16. Well, I've been stung by the flashing red light, no picture bug on my Philip's 50" Plasma TV. I've had my set for exactly four years. The flashing red light phenomena is written about all over the net, and is due to Philip's using crappy components on the mother board. It seems to happen at between 3 and 4 years. Phllip's has been no help. If your warranty is expired they will not speak to you, and you can not get any information at all by trying to engage in a live chat on their web site. This is just a warning to forum members to STAY AWAY FROM PHILIP'S PRODUCTS. I will probably be replacing my TV today. For me anyway, Philip's - Never Again.

  19. You should enjoy the RT-10D. I am concerned about the RC-52, however. The RC-62 is a sonic match to the RF-82, and doesn't really cost that much more. IMHO, you should consider the RC-62.
  20. The 880 is indeed an awesome unit. Just be advised that Logitech will not provide any support at all once the warranty runs out. I made the mistake of buying mine on ebay. It was advertised as a new unit, and came in new blisterpack packaging. When I had trouble with it, I phoned telephone support. They requested my SN, and then informed me it was put in service a year prior to when I received. They would therefore provide no customer service at all - NONE, NADA!!!!! I was left to try and sort it out on my own, which I did. I was not unfamiliar with the product, since it was my second Harmony remote. The customer service on my first one was fantastic. Due to this, I will never buy another Logitech product, except the Harmony. The Harmony remote control, IMHO, is really a unique product with no other alternative products in the marketplace.
  21. Hmm, I don't post here often, but when I do I have this issue also. Amy said it was an issue with Safari, and I have recently switched to Firefox. When I finish this post - I'll know if this is true. Yep, it was true - Thanks Amy. Firefox works without a hitch
  22. Sure it's possible, I have a 3.1 SetUp. My wife doesn't like surrounds, so what are ya gonna do? She doesn't like the sub either, but I snuck that in on her. I have an RC-62, FR-82s and an RW-12d. My Dennon knows that I don't have side or back speakers, so it sends those signals to the two fronts. I verified this with test signals.
