My search for the right integrated amp continues. I like the idea of buying USA made goods, and the Rogues are supposedly made in Pennsylvania. I have issues about supporting the Chinese economy - anyone remember Tiennamen Square? That's why Cayin and Prima Luna are off my list, even though the Prima Lunas are self-biasing, and ideal for tube newbies. Any Rogue Cronus owners out there? If so, is it easy to set the bias for these amps? Is the phono stage decent? Are these a good match with the Heresy IIIs? Mike in NEPA

Oldbuckster, Thanks for the info. I was looking at the smallest sub by Outlaw Audio. Who knows? Maybe I will be satisfied with the H3s on their own for some music, but since I listen to a lot of metal, I think the sub will be needed. I know I had been sold on tubes, but the new Onkyo A9555 integrated looks darn nice. Mike in NEPA

Hi Oldbuckster, How did you connect your subwoofer to your Scott amp? I am looking to get an integrated tube amp - most likely a Cayin - and they don't have a sub out. I am looking to get a small sub to go along with Heresy IIIs. What's a good sub to match with H3s? Thanks, Mike in NEPA

It's the CDs that suffer the worst fate. Usually its 3 to 4 in the morning or so when the lights get turned out. Returning to the scene of the crime later that day usually brings the task of not only cleaning up all the dirty glasses and bottles. Checking for any leftover evidence of illegal activities. Putting the furniture back in place (the coffee table having been used a dance platform). Turning off the equipment that was left on. Why is one amp on but the other is off? Now you are facing the task of reassembling the collection of CDs left in multiple spots all over the room. Including a large pile on the floor in front of the equipment rack, most not in their cases. The ones that are in cases are in the wrong ones. Why does this case have two CDs in it? It's only meant to have one. How did a stack of them get in the kitchen? Why do I have more CDs than cases? Was this one used as a coaster? How did the Monkees compilation disk end up in the Muddy Waters case? Good God, did we actually listen to "Smokin' in the Boy's Room" by Brownsville Station and how late was that? How long will it be before you can focus clearly enough to actually take that stack and refile them alphabetically onto their appropriate shelves? Oh and don't forget the one you left in the CD player when you turned it off. - Jim Yep, I know what you mean. I lost more CDs (damn thieves!) while in college than I care to remember, but I did end up "borrowing" a boat load of titles from the college radio station that I conveniently forgot to return.

One lesson I learned in the dorms at college: never let drunk people mess with the tunes! Or your gear! I used to disconnect my speaker cables so my roommate would not be able to crank up the system while I was out and he was drunk.

The latest "knock off Klipsch" I have seen lately are the new PD series from Tyler Acoustics. The maker of these speakers claims to not be familiar with Klipsch, if you can believe that B.S. -Mike in NEPA

Why do all the reviewers for the magazines always write about drinking wine while enjoying music? Of course, it's relaxing, but wouldn't too much wine ruin the experience? Before you know it, the Diana Krall CD gets tossed aside for Lynyrd Skynyrd's Greatest Hits, then you get out of your comfy chair and stumble into and knock down your big a$$ reference speakers, etc. Everyone knows weed is the better enhancer. First off, I'd like to thank the Klipsch community for all their help and input over the last few months. I am about a week away from purchasing a Cayin A50T. Finally, a nice tube integrated at a great price. I have also purchased Blue Jean cables and Audio Quest interconnects to go with my KG 2.2s and Sony mega changer. Right now, using an older Onkyo receiver, it does not sound bad in my little listening room, but I bet tubes will make a big sound improvement. I hope to soon buy a Belkin line conditioner - I guess I need one. Then, a better digital source. I am starting to research SACD players. Any suggestions? I am not looking to spend over a grand, a lot less if possible via the used market. I am not looking for a universal player. I have a Marantz and a Music Hall (forgot the model names) on my short list. What about a used Sony? Does anyone think SACD is a dead format? Should I just look at red book players instead? Then, hopefully sometime after New Year's, Heresy IIIs! Then, later, a nice starter TT, phono pre, etc. Then, a Timbernation rack. Boy, this hobby gets expensive as you progress, eh? -Mike in NEPA

I heard some good things about this company, so I checked out the website, and came across the PD ("Pro Dynamic") line of speakers. They seem like a niche product (the range has maybe 5 different speakers) meant for SETS, horn loaded, high sensitivity, etc.. The smallest of the series is the PD10, and it looks a lot like the Heresy, except that it's rear ported and will go a little lower, like the Forte. I emailed Tyler, and the main guy Ty responded. Basically, I asked him how similar his speaker was to the Heresy, and if he was a Klipsch fan. His response was that he was not familiar with Klipsch speakers! How could a so called speaker builder not be familiar with Klipsch? Klipsch has only been around for 60 friggin' years, and Ty has never seen or heard them? It's just an accident that this horn speaker looks like a Heresy? What a bunch of crap! I've been happy with my little KG 2.2s for over 15 years. I'm sticking with Klipsch, the real thing. I suggest everyone else out there do the same. No thanks, Ty. I'm buying Heresy IIIs.

I'll turn it up on occasion, but mostly it's moderate volume levels. The speakers are about ten feet apart, another ten feet or so from my comfy chair. Right now, I am using a small pair of Klipsch kg 2.2s - the same little speakers that won the college dormitory stereo wars every time. Not only do I like tone controls, but a remote control is vital because I am a fat, lazy American. Another amp that's gotten lots of great reviews is the new Onkyo digital amp - the A9555. The price looks good, too.

Under a grand. I like NAD because you're getting a lot of amp for the money. I also like having tone controls - guess I'm not a purist.

I still love and listen to metal, lots of progressive stuff, lots of stuff with good production value, weirder stuff like Porcupine Tree. But I also love the Grateful Dead, Miles Davis, reggae and world music. Just because you like loud, aggressive metal doesn't mean you're limited to cheapo Best Buy solid state, ya know what I'm sayin'?

Hey pauln, That was 15 years ago as a college freshman at Oberlin, where me and the downstairs RA would have stereo wars. I would win. A lot has changed since then. Oh, and it wasn't cheap solid state. It was very good Yamaha gear - lots of Yammy fans here.

I am going to open my pocket and support the awesome folks at Klipsch by buying new H3s. However, the more I think about it, the more I realize I am not an audiophile. Not really. I just like to listen to good music through good equipment, namely Klipsh speakers. I had a little Yamaha system in college: 2 channel receiver and CD player with my current KG 2.2's, and it sounded great. I got complements from other people with bigger and pricier set-ups, and of course, my system played friggin' loud, louder than the next guy. My resident advisor saw that I had Klipsch speakers, and the first thing he noted was how loud Klipsch speakers played without distortion. And he was right down stairs from me, and I would drown out his hip hop with Pantera on a regular basis. I am thinking getting some good NAD gear with the H3s. There must be a reason why NAD sells a lot of amps: they sound pretty good. I think this will be a good combination. Peace, y'all. Mike In NEPA Listen to Opeth!!

Nope, I am not buying a sub. Maybe if I had a cheap Axiom or Polk set-up (nothing against those two companies, BTW).

Hey Craig, Is there such a thing as a VRD integrated amp? I thought you made only power amps?

I've been doing a lot of online research, and it seems the H3 and Cayin combo is a good sounding combo - good synergy. I am especially happy to hear about the good bass the Cayin integrated brought to the H3, since the Heresy has always been known to lack good bass. Maybe this incarnation of the Heresy is indeed a different beast. If anything, a good tube set up would do metal fine, as long as there's enough power. That's why I would not look for a tiny SET amp. Most of the metal I listen to these days would be considered progressive metal, stuff like Dream Theater or Porcupine Tree. "Grown-up metal?" Thanks for the great post!

An older Scott is not out of the questions. Finding one in good shape isn't very easy. I'd want one that's intact, meaning I would want the cover with it, and the faceplate would have to be readable - little things, I know. And yes, tone controls are important to me. So is a remote control, which it lacks, and I am lazy. Is it possible to "hot rod" one of these Scotts? I mean, make it more suited for heavy metal music?

There's a lot of good things written and said about the Unicos. I know the Unico paired very well with Totem Arros and Meadowlark Kestrels. Of course, those speakers are nothing like the H3s, except for the price. Anyone ever hear the Unico with the H3s?

Tube or solid state, it doesn't matter. I have a small listening room, and don't have room for a lot of components or bigger speakers. I am definitely buying new H3s, but I need some input on a high quality integrated amp. I am looking for an amp with some good bass to get the most out of the H3s - in a small room. I have been considering the Cayin A-70T, the Unison Research Unico, Manley Stingray, Rega Mira, Naim Nait 5i, and possibly even NAD. I listen to mainly heavy metal music, with some Grateful Dead thrown in. What's the best system synergy for the H3s? Thanks! Mike in NE PA
